LGSLAW : Chapter 62 – Conclusion

Conclusion

With this command, the dozen or so men behind him pulled out wooden sticks from their waists, looking fierce as they darted towards each table!

Each of them shouted, “Move aside if you don’t want to get hurt!!! We’re only smashing tables, not people!!”

Saying this, the closest table was struck with a stick!! Bang!!

The dishes and tea on the table splashed everywhere! Broken plates and bowls shattered into pieces, flying in all directions!!

The villagers, who had never witnessed such a scene, were terrified and fled in panic!!

“Ahhh!!! They’re really hitting!!! Run, run!!!”

Immediately, chaos ensued!!

The village head was also stunned, “You, you people, where are you from!? Stop, stop now! Someone, stop them!!”

The village head said this because he had experienced nearby villages coming to cause trouble. Miao Jia Village did have a group of strong men, not lacking in strength compared to others. But now, with this inexplicable situation, not knowing who was right or wrong, no one was enthusiastic enough to step in and help.

Miao Jue angrily shouted, “Stop!! How dare you!! Aren’t you afraid we’ll report you to the authorities!? Liangzi, go to the town office immediately!! I don’t believe that the authorities will ignore such lawlessness and damage to property!!”

Mentioning the authorities, the guests who had been fleeing paused. Miao Liang’s face turned pale. Report to the authorities? If he got ambushed on the way, who would save him? Thinking this, his expression changed but he didn’t move immediately.

The leading man laughed, “Sure, go ahead!! Hey, when the time comes, we’ll see whose side the authorities take, haha!!”

Miao Jue’s heart skipped a beat, cupping his hands, “Brother, what do you mean by this?! Our Miao family has always acted righteously and law-abidingly, never having enmity or grudges with anyone. Brother, perhaps there’s some misunderstanding?!”

The man crossed his arms, “There’s no misunderstanding. Let me ask today’s groom! Did he say something last Mid-Autumn Festival?”

Miao Yuan was bewildered, “Last Mid-Autumn Festival!? No, no, I didn’t!?”

Mentioning Mid-Autumn Festival, Miao Yuan knew what it was about.

But he really didn’t say anything. He didn’t think much of the concubine daughter of the Wang family scribe. Although she had a good family background, her right cheek had a large blue birthmark, which looked terrifying. He thought even without Min Chun, once he passed the scholar exam, he should have better choices.

Unfortunately, his mother Lin Xue was enamored with the status of being an official’s wife and was even more satisfied after seeing the girl. She thought that since the girl had a blemish on her face, she would be easy to control and a virtuous helper. Later, she must have said something to the girl’s mother, making the girl like Miao Yuan even more.

So even though Miao Yuan didn’t pass the scholar exam, with her condition, she would have been willing to wait! Unexpectedly, without saying a word, he found himself betrothed to a handsome ger, as if Miao Yuan despised her birthmark. The girl was furious, and her mother, being a concubine from a singer’s family with a complex background, called a group of hooligan brothers to make trouble!!

Now, to clear her name and protect her niece’s reputation, they blamed everything on Miao Yuan!!

At this moment, someone recalled.

“Last Mid-Autumn Festival? Yes, Yuanzi went to the town to see the lanterns.”

“Ah, then these people are from the Wang family, the scribe’s family!?”

“No wonder they’re not afraid of being reported! What will Miao Yuan do now?”

“Strange, wasn’t it said that the scribe’s family didn’t approve? Why does it seem different now?”

“Hey, think about it, wasn’t there a He ge’er before? This Miao Yuan, probably a smooth talker–“

This made Miao Yuan speechless!! But he had to defend himself, “No, I really didn’t! I didn’t say anything!!” At this point, the man waved his hand, allowing his men to continue smashing tables. Miao Yuan could only turn anxiously to his grandfather, “Grandpa, you believe me!? I really didn’t!!”

Miao Jue didn’t care whether Miao Yuan did it or not! He was filled with regret and helplessness! Originally, he knew he should be cautious with the Wang family matter and shouldn’t have listened to his second daughter-in-law! And he didn’t realize the girl seriously liked Yuanzi. Now, what to do!?

Lin Xue’s face was also pale. She felt it was all too hateful. If only she hadn’t insisted on letting Min Chun into the family, none of this would have happened! Glancing at Min Chun’s dissatisfied expression, she became even angrier!!!

She thought, what does our family owe you that Yuanzi has to repay!? Suddenly, Lin Xue grabbed Min Chun’s wrist.

“You! Yuanzi is being misunderstood like this, and you just watch!? Quickly, go and explain!! Explain the reason for marrying Yuanzi clearly!!”

Min Chun almost couldn’t hide his sneer. This woman is laughable, making a mess and expecting others to clean up?

He put on a bewildered, gentle, and weak expression, successfully pulling his wrist out of Lin Xue’s grasp, pretending it hurt, rubbing his wrist, about to say a few words to deflect.

Unexpectedly, Miao Duaner saw his actions, and her heart trembled, shouting without thinking.

“Brother Chun, Brother Chun’s birthmark!! It’s gone!!! Mom!! Look!!”

Lin Xue’s face also changed, “What!!??” Immediately, with surprising speed and strength, she forcefully pulled Min Chun’s wrist!

Min Chun was caught off guard. He had removed the bandage for the wedding today and used red ink to cover the birthmark, but it had long been rubbed off by now!!

Lin Xue was furious!! Screaming, “You, you unclean ger!! Like this, you still want to enter our family!!!”

Lin Xue’s scream, knowing it would definitely disgrace the family, didn’t matter anymore. Her hatred for Min Chun surpassed everything. She didn’t want this hateful Chun to ruin Yuanzi’s life!! So, she had to make a scene!!

Even though Min Chun quickly pulled away, Lin Xue continued pointing and shouting, “Cover what!? I saw it clearly!! Brother Chun’s birthmark is gone!! Damn it, turned out to be such an unruly, shameless ger! Pretending all along!! Old Master!! We’ve been deceived!!!”

This sudden twist left the villagers dumbfounded.

Even Miao Jue was shocked by this turn of events, unable to react!

Before anyone could respond, the lead man burst into laughter.

“No birthmark!? Hahaha, so it’s a used shoe!! Hahaha, if we knew that, we wouldn’t have bothered to come!! Alright, stop smashing, we’re leaving!!! Miao Yuan!! Congratulations!!! Hahaha!!!”

In seconds, they withdrew cleanly and swiftly!

Even actors couldn’t perform a black-and-white reversal this quickly!

Leaving behind a group of stunned guests.

Uh, so… should we continue the wedding banquet?

Finally snapping back, Miao Jue instinctively pretended to faint from anger!!

His other sons and daughters-in-law quickly rushed to him, shouting to get a doctor!

In the ensuing chaos, no one cared about the lonely Miao Yuan.

And Miao Yuan was already in complete shock.

If he accepted Lin Xue’s claim that he was deceived, he would wear the green hat firmly for life.

But if he acknowledged Min Chun as his man, the green hat would be gone, but the pre-marriage scandal would fall on him…

What should he do?

As for Min Chun, he wasn’t afraid. Just annoyed by his carelessness, forgetting the birthmark.

After all, he remembered exactly where Miao Yuan had marks, not fearing denial.

Initially, he saw it as leverage over Miao Yuan.

But now he wasn’t penniless, unable to scrape together even the cost. If Miao Yuan didn’t admit it, would the man survive past Qingming(festival) ?

Moreover, this leverage might just make the Miao family cough up some money.

***

This incident became the talk of Miao Village for a while.

Second Aunt Yang, who often came to help, also relayed it several times, and Miao He became familiar with the details.

“So, what was the result? How did they settle it?”

“Well, what else? They divorced. With such a scene, Miao Jue couldn’t let Miao Yuan marry an unruly Chun. Sigh, ours is the first divorce in the village. And Chun, what will he do now?”

“Is it really bad for a divorced ger in the village?” Miao He was curious. He had thought about it before.

“Mainly, there’s no support. His family only has his mother, no brothers to back him up, and now no husband’s family. If something happens, who will help him? In Yuanjia Village, there was a Shui Aunty, who after becoming a widow, faced such troubles. Some rogues, knowing there was no protection, harassed her daily, ruining her reputation. In the end, she was driven to suicide.”

“Ah? Didn’t the authorities do anything?”

“How could it be so easy? And who would help her? Even Shui Aunty herself didn’t dare report.”

Miao He was shocked, realizing the harshness of the times for gers and girls.

But regardless, Miao He felt happy for the original owner.

For the original owner, Miao Yuan was undoubtedly a scoundrel, along with his family. Now, with Miao Yuan’s disgraceful divorce, he would carry the stigma of a green hat and divorce. Plus, offending the Wang family scribe, his future was bleak! Hey, who told his family to despise the poor and love the rich! Now, it’s karma! Serves him right!

That night, when Miao He, smiling, shared the story with Yang Dalang, he was pinned down.

“How much do you remember?” Yang Dalang’s dark eyes stared down.

When Miao He confessed his origins, he naturally mentioned the thoughts in his mind.

Miao He’s smile froze, sensing danger, “Not much, not much.”

“Do you think of it often?”

“No, no!!”

“Do you think of something?”

“No! Absolutely not!!”

Just then, there was a noise from the crib. Miao He praised his son silently, laughing, “Mantou seems to be awake, I’ll go check–“

Halfway through, his words were silenced by a hot, domineering kiss. Miao He’s face turned red. Since the babies were born, they hadn’t been intimate. Maybe it had been too long, with Yang Dalang’s familiar touches, Miao He was soon dizzy.

But just as Miao He’s body fully heated up, Yang Dalang suddenly withdrew. “I’ll go.”

With teary eyes, Miao He was momentarily confused, then glared. Who, who does that…

Seeing the round, aggrieved eyes of his little ger, Yang Dalang chuckled, leaning down to bite his lips, “Wait for me.” Then he really went to the crib.

As for Miao He, his heart raced at Yang Dalang’s earlier smile.

Why, why… so intense after being together so long…

Soon, when Yang Dalang’s big hands slipped under his clothes, Miao He gasped…

But he soon lost the ability to question.

The overwhelming passion engulfed the space under the blanket.

The little black cat, initially curled at the crib’s foot, twitched its ears, stretched lazily, and then hopped into the crib.

It nestled at the foot, yawning, resting its head on its paws.

The masters were busy, so the king had to be on duty, meow.

?? What are you all talking about? Miao He isn’t delighted about Min Chun’s situation. He was even shocked and horrified about how harsh the current times were on gers and girls. He was only delighted for the original, for having dodged the Miao Yuan & family train wreck of a disaster. He thinks it’s only karma for Miao Yuan what happened to him since he has the memories of the original and knows full well that the original had been deceived and betrayed despite later denials of the Miao Jue family. He did empathize with Min Chun, however brief it might be, but Min Chun is a full-grown adult capable of his own choices and decisions in life so he must also be responsible of shouldering the consequences of his actions (which are unrelated to Miao He, the consequences of which are also unrelated to Miao He so why should he care?). Yes, Min Chun didn’t do anything bad to Miao He, they are two complete strangers despite being both transmigrators, but so what? Miao He also didn’t do anything bad towards him. It’s not like the author is making him suffer just as a casualty of MC’s actions. His current predicament is all of his own doing – even before Miao He learned of his existence, he was already involved with the Miao Jue family in a most high-profile manner; circumstances didn’t force him to sleep with Miao Yuan without considering the current timeline’s societal norms, it was his own choice; and, most importantly, he himself doesn’t think much of these “ancient” and “backwards” people, believing he is above all and behaving like so. Miao He, on the other hand, is trying his best to adapt, thinking of the consequences for himself and others before doing anything, and is sincere in his behavior and interactions with everyone. I don’t think, with their differing personalities, they’d go well together. It’s already good for them not going against each other (not like Min Chun doesn’t want to, he certainly holds unwarranted dislike towards Miao He despite not being actually acquainted with each other). The there is Miao He’s mother. In an earlier chapter, Miao He once said that the original, after being calculated by his own mother, felt both love and hate for her which made him, current Miao He, also feel complicated about her. It’s true the things she did were for a reason somewhat similar to Min Chun’s, and while Min Chun didn’t do anything bad towards Miao He, Lin Zhaodi certainly did harm Miao He, original and current. Miao He is “giving [Lin Zhaodi] a chance” because he is in a place to be able to do so, because he is Lin Zhaodi’s victim. Miao He hasn’t even met Min Chun so how can there be talks of harming or forgiveness between them? Besides, Miao He didn’t say he was forgiving Lin Zhaodi, in behalf of the original or himself – he just wants to give her a chance to be on equal footing with the other villagers as if she really is just a fellow villager to him (especially since she loudly proclaimed in front of everyone her desire to rent land and she is still his nominal biological mother after all), otherwise he could keep holding a grudge and deny her but that would gradually make him the evil person.

I hope there is redemption for Min Chu, but I fear his path may lead to irredeemability or unnecessary suffering. I don’t understand why the main character is so excited about someone’s marital and virginity status leading to death, especially since he is from the modern world and should have empathy. Honestly, I am beginning to think Min Chu is foolish; he should have known the rules of the past. Why would he agree to a divorce, especially when he has those recipes, and why did he never tell anyone that he created them? It doesn’t make much sense.

Yes, I hope the transmigrators can somehow team up together. Min Chu never really harmed the original Miao He anyway. Hope they also help if there are other gers and girls oppressed, like Miao He’s sister.

I don’t like what is happening to Min Chu. He tried his best to have a good life, in a really shitty situation.

Original Miao He’s mother did the same thing, if not worse, in my opinion. If Miao He didn’t have his power, she could have crippled her own son’s living situation. But she gets redemption, and Min Chu needs a really bad ending to show how good the MC is.
