A few days later, Xiao Jinfeng returned from Qingcheng, his poison detoxified, and he seemed much more cheerful.
“Second brother, you’re back. Is the poison detoxified?” Xiao Jingting asked.
Xiao Jinfeng nodded. “Yes, thanks to you, Second Brother, I would have been doomed without you.” In truth, detoxifying the poison cost just over a thousand taels of silver. The problem was, he had been expelled from the mercenary group and had no one to lend him money. While people in the family pretended to help him, they secretly hindered him.
“It’s good as long as you’re fine. I’m short-handed here!” Xiao Jingting said, somewhat pleased.
“Is there anything I can help with?” Xiao Jinfeng asked.
“In my fields, the spirit plants are starting to ripen one after another. Those fields are close to the mountains and are attracting more and more monsters. I originally hired two spirit plant cultivators to take care of them, but recently, the increasing number of monsters scared them off,” Xiao Jingting said helplessly.
“I can help take care of them. I’m also a spirit plant cultivator,” Mu Shuyu hesitated.
Xiao Jingting nodded. “Then I’ll trouble you, Shuyu.”
Mu Shuyu smiled shyly. “No trouble at all.” He glanced around quickly and then withdrew his gaze.
Xiao Jingting elbowed Xiao Jinfeng. “Second brother, you’re quite charming. You brought back a pharmacist and a spirit plant cultivator.”
Mu Shuyu was skilled in medical arts. If it weren’t for his emergency care and careful medication to delay Xiao Jinfeng’s poisoning, he wouldn’t have lasted so long.
Mu Shuyu blushed upon hearing Xiao Jingting and Xiao Jinfeng’s whispers. He stood in the courtyard, feeling awkward.
“Alright, let’s not stand around in the courtyard. Let’s eat first,” Xu Mu’an said timely, breaking the tension.
Xiao Jingting finally realized and said, “Yes, let’s eat first. We need our strength.”
Xiao Jinfeng walked into the house and found Xiao Xiaodong and Xiao Xiaofan already seated.
Seeing Xiao Jinfeng come in, Xiao Xiaodong nodded politely and greeted, “Second uncle, are you feeling better now?”
Xiao Jinfeng smiled. “I’m already fine.”
Xiao Xiaofan clutched his bowl with both hands, eyes fixed on the table full of food, occasionally licking his lips. Xiao Xiaodong nudged Xiao Xiaofan, who immediately exclaimed nervously, “I didn’t steal any!”
Xiao Jingting, with a black line on his forehead, thought, This son of mine, really…
“Alright, alright, let’s eat,” Xiao Jingting said helplessly.
Upon hearing this, Xiao Xiaofan immediately perked up.
Xiao Xiaodong shot Xiao Xiaofan a glare, and Xiao Xiaofan, looking innocent, picked up a piece of meat and stuffed it into his mouth, innocently looking at Xiao Xiaodong.
Xiao Jinfeng looked at Xiao Jingting and thought to himself: Third brother has changed quite a bit. Before, he always called Xiao Xiaofan a bastard, born out of Xu Mu’an’s affair. Xiao Jingting didn’t have such a foolish son. When he visited the Xiao family a few times, both children were thin and sickly. Now they’re so healthy and fair-skinned.
Xiao Jinfeng and the others sat down and started eating.
“Mu’an, you’re quite skilled. The food is delicious!” Xiao Jinfeng praised.
Xu Mu’an smiled and said, “It’s all thanks to Jingting’s excellent teaching.” Although Xiao Jingting was very busy, whenever he cooked, Xu Mu’an earnestly watched and learned from the side. Although not as good as Xiao Jingting, Xu Mu’an’s cooking skills had improved significantly.
“Third brother, you can cook too,” Xiao Jinfeng said in surprise.
Xiao Jingting nodded. “A little bit. When you eat a lot, you learn to cook.”
Xiao Jinfeng smiled, thinking to himself: He has eaten quite well too. But when it comes to cooking, he can probably only grill some meat. He seemed to have underestimated his younger brother.
“Second uncle, are you feeling better?” Xiao Xiaofan asked.
Xiao Jinfeng nodded. “I’m already fine.”
“That’s great. Second uncle, now you can have babies for me to play with,” Xiao Xiaofan said excitedly.
Xiao Jingting: What is this silly son of mine thinking? What does “play with” mean?
Xiao Jinfeng awkwardly smiled and glanced at Mu Shuyu beside him.
Mu Shuyu ate his food with his head down, his face as red as a ripe tomato.
Xiao Jingting served Xiao Xiaofan several pieces of meat and said, “Come on, eat up.”
Xiao Xiaofan smiled brilliantly at Xiao Jingting and said, “Thank you, Dad.”
Xiao Xiaodong turned his head, looking speechlessly at Xiao Xiaofan, who smiled proudly and said, “Dad served me meat. Dad loves me the most.”
Xiao Xiaodong: …
