Si Ye and Chen Xu met Mo Hang again at Mo Hang’s wedding. Previously, Mo Hang’s involvement with Xiang Xiuhe’s schemes had infuriated his family, and his father was so enraged that he beat him into the hospital. Si Ye originally didn’t want to attend this wedding, but Mo Hang’s parents personally delivered the invitation. Si Ye couldn’t refuse Mo Hang’s parents, so he eventually agreed to go.
Thirty-five-year-old Si Ye and twenty-five-year-old Chen Xu appeared at Mo Hang’s wedding, one composed and mature, the other proud and youthful. Time had been kind to Si Ye; it hadn’t left any marks on his face but had instead enhanced his charm. Just a glance at him in the crowd was enough to make people captivated and unable to forget. The marriage between Si Ye and Chen Xu, which the upper class had once looked down upon, was still as loving as ever after seven years.
Back then, many had seen Chen Xu as someone who relied on his looks to curry favor. However, in these seven years, he had shone brightly. As the most pampered youngest child of the Lin family, a genius fashion designer, and an astute investor, Chen Xu’s roles were numerous. Many thought he would always stay under Si Ye’s protection, but he used his strength to prove that he was not a parasitic vine clinging to Si Ye. Instead, he was a partner and confidant who walked side by side with Si Ye, supporting each other.
The bride’s parents warmly welcomed Si Ye and Chen Xu. If the bride had been present, they would probably have brought her over to build connections with Si Ye and Chen Xu. Mo Hang and the bride had a typical business marriage. It was said that the bride also had quite an adventurous lifestyle, but Mo Hang didn’t mind. He was still thinking about reconnecting with Xiang Xiuhe after he got out of prison.
“Look at them crying ‘I do’ on stage; you would think they were truly in love,” Chen Xu whispered in Si Ye’s ear, complaining.
Si Ye laughed softly and whispered back, “It’s all just for show.”
The banquet was well-prepared, and Chen Xu ate a bit more than usual. While enjoying some post-meal fruit, Mo Hang approached with his bride to toast them. This was the first time the three had faced each other in many years.
“Thank you for still being willing to attend my wedding,” Mo Hang said to Si Ye with a complex look, raising his glass.
Si Ye didn’t give him any face and didn’t drink the toast. “Your parents came to invite me personally. I came for their sake.”
In other words, Si Ye attended the wedding not because he still considered Mo Hang a friend, but out of respect for Mo Hang’s parents.
Mo Hang’s expression turned ugly. His bride, oblivious to the tension, said, “I’ve heard a lot about how good friends you and my husband are. Thank you for coming to our wedding. Let’s keep in touch more in the future.”
Si Ye glanced at Mo Hang and said coldly, “There’s no need for that.”
The bride was clearly unprepared for Si Ye’s directness. Was it true that the rumors of a fallout between Mo Hang and Si Ye were true? But Si Ye had attended the wedding, which suggested their relationship wasn’t that bad, right?
Si Ye’s public dismissal of Mo Hang and his bride spread quickly, confirming the rumors of their fallout. This incident affected Mo Hang’s business, and his father beat him again in the study. Meanwhile, Mo Hang’s wife, who had looked down on him ever since, continued to have affairs, practically flaunting her infidelities. Although their marriage was a business arrangement, no one liked being cuckolded. Whenever Mo Hang tried to confront her, she would dismissively tell him to find someone else, as she didn’t mind.
Not long after attending Mo Hang’s wedding, Chen Xu and Si Ye returned to the Lin family for Chen Xu’s brother Lin Yirun’s wedding. Lin Yirun, who was the same age as Si Ye, had always been single, making their parents worry that his true love was his work. It wasn’t until one day when Zhuo Shunan brought soup to the company for Lin Penghan and also delivered some to Lin Yirun that the situation came to light. She found a clean-cut young man wearing an oversized shirt emerging from Lin Yirun’s rest area. The two were equally shocked to see each other.
Realizing he couldn’t keep it hidden any longer, Lin Yirun confessed that the man was his secretary, Qi Jiang. Qi Jiang came from a poor background and got involved with Lin Yirun by accident. He thought Lin Yirun considered him a fling, unaware that Lin Yirun believed they were in a relationship. The two had never been on the same page, yet they had been together for two or three years.
When Chen Xu heard Lin Yirun talk about his relationship, he thought it was quite remarkable they ended up together despite the misunderstandings. But it was fortunate that despite the twists and turns, they were getting married.
Lin Yirun’s wedding was grand, and Chen Xu, as his groomsman, garnered much attention. Many asked about his background and whether he was single. Upon learning he was Lin Yirun’s brother and Si Ye’s husband, they were all astonished.
“I’m about to throw the bouquet,” Qi Jiang announced, dressed in a black suit that highlighted his elegant figure. The suit was designed by Chen Xu and even trended on social media that day.
“Me, me, me!” a group of people shouted excitedly, hoping to catch the bouquet.
Chen Xu escaped the crowd and walked towards Si Ye. “Finally got out.”
They had been married for seven years. Despite the old saying about the seven-year itch, their relationship only grew stronger with each passing day, making many envious.
As they stood at the edge of the lawn watching the fun, something flew towards them. Worried it might hit Chen Xu, Si Ye instinctively caught it.
Amidst the cheers, he realized he had caught the bouquet.
The two of them looked at each other, and Si Ye suddenly got down on one knee, presenting the bouquet to Chen Xu. “I’ve heard that a person’s cells completely renew every seven years. This is our seventh year, the start of a new chapter. Mr. Chen, will you marry me again?”
Si Ye’s unexpected gesture elicited cheers and applause from the crowd. A marriage lasting so long and still so romantic was truly enviable.
Chen Xu hadn’t expected this. He took the bouquet from Si Ye’s hand and helped him up. “Mr. Si, next time it’s my turn.”
Si Ye smiled, wrapping his arms around Chen Xu. The bouquet lay between them, its fragrance filling the air as they kissed.
“Okay,” Si Ye agreed.
There would be many more seven-year milestones ahead. Each one, when pieced together, would make up their lifetime.
