After Rebirth I Became a Rich Man’s Wife
Chapter 35
Tao Minzhi sat on the sofa, drinking tea and lost in thought. Wei Shifeng came up from behind, placed a hand on her shoulder, and kissed her temple.
“What are you thinking about?”
“Nothing.” Tao Minzhi put down the teacup, paused for a moment, and then removed Wei Shifeng’s hand from her shoulder. “You shouldn’t come here anymore.”
Before Wei Shifeng could respond, Tao Minzhi continued, “Didn’t you want to start a company? The money on this card should be enough.”
“Dear, did I make you angry?” Wei Shifeng asked softly, trying to keep his emotions in check.
Tao Minzhi handed the card to Wei Shifeng, looking at him intently. “Si Ye found out about our relationship.”
Wei Shifeng’s face turned ashen, and he collapsed onto the floor. “How… how did he find out? We were so discreet.”
Tao Minzhi had always known what kind of person Wei Shifeng was. Seeing him in such a pathetic state now only made her feel more disdain. “There’s no such thing as a wall that doesn’t let the wind through.”
“Did he threaten you?” Wei Shifeng swallowed hard, trying to sound calm.
Tao Minzhi’s eyes flickered, and she sneered. “Why do you think he was able to marry a man?”
Wei Shifeng understood. Tao Minzhi had made a deal with Si Ye, allowing him to marry Chen Xu in exchange for keeping their affair a secret. Now that Si Ye had gotten what he wanted, there was no need to continue the relationship with Tao Minzhi.
“We don’t have to end this. He got what he wanted…” Wei Shifeng stammered, his face lighting up with hope.
But Tao Minzhi quickly dashed his hopes. “Si Ye might be the first, but he won’t be the last. I’m not going to risk myself for you. You’re just a plaything.”
Wei Shifeng caught the meaning in her words. He grabbed her arm and hugged her tightly. “No, you can’t abandon me. Don’t you care about me at all?”
Tao Minzhi remained unmoved. “Wei Shifeng, know when to stop. Don’t be too greedy. The money on this card is enough for you to live comfortably for the rest of your life.”
Leaving Tao Minzhi’s villa with his coat, Wei Shifeng looked at the card in his hand, his eyes dark and resentful. He muttered, “Old witch.”

In the afternoon, Chen Xu took Si Xuezhou out to hang out with Ke Xinghao and a few others. Ke Xinghao was very friendly towards Si Xuezhou. His outgoing personality quickly brought Si Xuezhou into the group.
“Hey, Shen, your little brother looks more like a young master than you do,” Ke Xinghao said, pointing at Si Xuezhou.
Chen Xu coldly corrected him. “He’s not my brother. By generation, I should call him uncle, and so should you.”
Ke Xinghao was speechless. Si Xuezhou shyly waved his hand. “Just call me brother.”
He wanted to say that since Chen Xu and Si Ye were married, he should be Chen Xu’s brother by relation. But he didn’t know if Chen Xu had told Ke Xinghao and the others about the marriage, so he decided to keep quiet.
“Ha, you’re the sensible one,” Ke Xinghao grinned at Si Xuezhou, then shrank back when Chen Xu glared at him.
Guan Qingqing and Ni Shanshan walked over with milk tea. Chen Xu greeted them. Guan Qingqing seemed a bit uneasy and forced a smile. Chen Xu didn’t notice, but Si Xuezhou did.
His eyes flickered. It wasn’t surprising that someone liked Chen Xu, but seeing it made him feel like he was witnessing something forbidden.
“How’s your sister?” Chen Xu asked Guan Qingqing, thinking of Guan Shuang chasing after Jiang Tingxue. Since school started, he’d been busy with military training and classes, and hadn’t thought much about Jiang Tingxue.
“She’s fine,” Guan Qingqing replied, puzzled by Chen Xu’s question about her sister.
“Did she succeed in her pursuit?” Chen Xu asked, surprising Guan Qingqing even more.
She widened her eyes in shock. Chen Xu usually wasn’t this nosy. Feeling his gaze, Chen Xu felt a bit uncomfortable. “Never mind. She probably wouldn’t tell you anyway.”
Guan Qingqing indeed hadn’t mentioned anything about a relationship lately. She nodded. “Yeah, she hasn’t said anything.”
“Wow, Sister Shuang is in love?” Ke Xinghao asked, intrigued.
“I don’t know,” Guan Qingqing shook her head.
Ke Xinghao turned to Chen Xu, who frowned and pushed his face away. “None of your business.”
“Hey, Shen, you really deserve to be single forever,” Ke Xinghao teased, rubbing his face.
Si Xuezhou watched their interaction, finding it amusing. It was much better than the flattery and sycophancy he was used to at school.
He envied Chen Xu for having such genuine friends.
Si Xuezhou spent the afternoon with them, visiting places he had never been before and enjoying street food. The taste was amazing, and he realized he had missed out on a lot.
But when he returned home with the smell of barbecue on him, his father scolded him harshly. For the first time, Si Xuezhou didn’t feel the usual pain of being reprimanded. Instead, he was lost in memories of the arcade and the street food.
Life had so many interesting things. How could he have ever found it boring?
—
After his shower, Chen Xu heard a knock on the door. He opened it to find Si Ye standing outside.
“Uncle Si? What are you doing here?” Si Ye rarely came to the second floor, and his cramped room seemed out of place for someone like Si Ye.
“I missed you after not seeing you all day,” Si Ye said, his face shifting in the light, his eyes deep and captivating.
Chen Xu’s ears grew hot. He stepped aside. “Do you want to come in?”
Si Ye smiled slightly. “Then I’ll bother you (I’ll enter then).”
Chen Xu thought, you’ve already come up, what’s the point of saying that?
After closing the door behind him, Chen Xu suddenly felt nervous. He had just showered, wearing loose pajamas, his hair still damp, and his face slightly flushed from the heat.
“Uncle Si, please sit. I’ll dry my hair,” Chen Xu said, quickly retreating to the bathroom and partially closing the door to dry his hair.
Si Ye didn’t follow him. Instead, he walked over to Chen Xu’s easel, studying the half-finished painting. He admired Chen Xu’s talent, though he was disappointed it wasn’t a portrait of himself.
Chen Xu had a real gift for painting. In his previous life, Chen Xu had attended an art academy in the capital, far from A City. Si Ye rarely saw him and didn’t know much about him, not even that Si Yichen secretly bullied him.
In this life, Chen Xu chose to stay close to him, and Si Ye was genuinely happy about it. Despite his words about wanting Chen Xu to be free, he was satisfied with the current situation.
Looking at Chen Xu’s work, Si Ye realized Chen Xu had a natural talent for design. His sketchbook on the bedside table was filled with fashion designs, showing he was already a mature designer capable of starting his own brand.
Chen Xu was more talented than Si Ye had imagined.
He had an incredible imagination and shouldn’t be confined here.
“Uncle Si?” Chen Xu called out after drying his hair. The silence outside made him think Si Ye might have left.
Si Ye turned, holding the sketchbook. Chen Xu looked at him, their eyes meeting in silence.
After a moment, Si Ye handed back the sketchbook. “Sorry for looking at your drawings without permission.”
“It’s fine,” Chen Xu said, taking it. It didn’t matter if Si Ye looked. He wouldn’t steal his designs.
“You’re very talented. You should pursue fashion design. You’d be an excellent designer,” Si Ye said seriously.
Chen Xu’s heart raced. He looked into Si Ye’s eyes, trying to see if his words were sincere.
“Do you really think so, Uncle Si?”
“Yes, you’re more talented than you realize,” Si Ye replied. Although his company didn’t have a fashion division, he didn’t mind starting one for Chen Xu.
Si Ye’s commercial sense and taste were sharp, and Chen Xu’s work was undeniably excellent.
Hearing Si Ye’s affirmation, Chen Xu smiled proudly. “I know I’m talented, so it doesn’t matter if I don’t major in fashion design. I can still create designs. But I really need to learn economics.”
In his previous life, Chen Xu had completed his fashion design studies and was preparing to start his own brand before he died. He had the theoretical foundation and had won many awards. This time, he didn’t need to repeat the same path.
“You don’t need to study economics. Just do what you love,” Si Ye said, confused.
“Helping you is what I want to do,” Chen Xu said, looking at Si Ye with pure and sincere eyes, making Si Ye’s heart pound.
After a moment of silence, Si Ye tapped Chen Xu’s nose. “You always make me wonder if you’re doing this on purpose.”
Chen Xu tilted his head, confused, his innocent eyes looking at Si Ye.
Si Ye pressed his lips together and covered Chen Xu’s eyes with his hand. The extreme purity and temptation in Chen Xu’s gaze were too much. He feared if he looked any longer, he wouldn’t be able to resist.
“Uncle Si?” Chen Xu’s voice trembled as he called out.
“Xiao Xu…” Si Ye murmured in a low voice. He seemed to be very close to Chen Xu. Chen Xu’s nose was filled with Si Ye’s scent, and he could even feel the subtle streams of air spilling onto his lips as Si Ye exhaled, giving him the illusion that he was kissing Si Ye.
This realization caused Chen Xu’s ears to suddenly redden. How could he and his uncle possibly kiss?
Thinking this way, his mind suddenly flashed back to the image of Si Ye wrapping his arms around his waist and lowering his head to kiss him. Si Ye’s always-calm eyes looked as if he had been drinking a pot of strong wine, burning his heart and soul to the core.
?
The flashing scene made Chen Xu panic, and he suddenly turned red from his neck to his face. He was so shameless that he imagined himself kissing his uncle.
