Si Yichen stared at the sheet of paper, dumbfounded for half a minute before snapping out of his shock. “Mine… mine?”
The other person chuckled lightly, with a tone of unclear mockery, somewhat grating.
“Well, who else?” Si Yichen was full of horror, stuttering, “But… we only did it that one time…”
He never dreamed that he’d become a father at eighteen, and… he glanced across the table at the woman, his heart in turmoil. He had thought it was just a mistake made under the influence, but who would have thought that mistake would lead to a new life.
The woman picked up her coffee and took a sip. Si Yichen stared at her dumbfoundedly and blurted out, “Can you drink coffee during pregnancy?”
“Who knows, anyway, I don’t intend to keep it.” The woman said nonchalantly.
Si Yichen slammed the table, “What?!”
His actions drew the attention of a few scattered customers in the cafe. Si Yichen quickly sat down. “W-why?”
“Why are you so nervous? Don’t you believe it’s your seed? It’s none of your concern to have it aborted.” There was a hint of amusement in the woman’s voice, her casual tone making Si Yichen completely convinced that she had no intention of keeping the child, and she didn’t care at all.
But this was his child, with his blood and kinship, the closest person to him in the world.
The deeper he thought about it, the more Si Yichen couldn’t bear to give up this child. He had lost his mother at a young age, his father had gone far away, and those people related to him by blood were not good people. Even Tao Minzhi had recently stopped helping him. But this child was different; he was the person closest to him in the world.
“No! It can’t be aborted.” Si Yichen suddenly raised his head, staring intently at the woman opposite him.
The woman sneered, “Are you crazy? You actually want me to give birth to him? Given our relationship, if it’s ever exposed, this child will be the best evidence. Moreover, with your current situation, what right do you have to ask me to have this child?”
One realistic remark after another shattered Si Yichen’s self-esteem. She was right. If things continued like this, not to mention this child, he would soon be unable to carry on with his own life.
“Stop daydreaming. I’ve already made an appointment at the hospital. I’ll go get rid of the child in a few days, and let’s just forget about what happened that night.” The woman got up to settle the bill.
Si Yichen suddenly reached out and grabbed her wrist. “Don’t do it. I’ll figure something out. Just wait a bit longer, I’ll make sure you and this child have a good life.”
He stared at her intently. “I’m the heir of the Si family.”
…
Chen Xu stayed at home for two days, and Si Ye didn’t spend much time with him. He was busy preparing for the design competition and final exams, so he didn’t notice Si Ye’s distance from him.
On the eve of New Year’s Day, Chen Xu submitted his preliminary work and immediately began preparing for the final exams.
Even Tang Zhen didn’t go out to do part-time jobs. He stayed honestly in the library to study.
Zhu Yaoyuan, in order to pursue Qin Yuzhen, got up earlier every day recently, just to go to the library to save seats for Qin Yuzhen. The relationship between the two became closer as a result.
Tang Zhen rolled his eyes and whispered to Chen Xu, “Look, this is a typical case of having no humanity when there’s an opposite sex around.”
“I heard that a guy from the school basketball team has been asking you out to watch him play these days?” Chen Xu, although he turned a deaf ear to outside affairs, still knew a little about his friends’ affairs.
Tang Zhen curled his lips and said, “I’m not going to work for the sake of exams. At this time, he’s asking me to watch him play basketball. Clearly, he’s not a good person. Isn’t he hindering my studies and my chance of winning a scholarship?”
Chen Xu: …” That makes sense,” he couldn’t argue.
Tang Zhen often said he was a love idiot, but in Chen Xu’s eyes, he was just talkative. When faced with a real love situation, he was rational and cautious.
On the contrary, Chen Xu himself, usually calm and rational, was full of thoughts about Si Ye when it came to love.
Thinking that he would see Si Ye tonight, Chen Xu’s calm heart suddenly surged with waves of excitement. He couldn’t wait to see Si Ye now.
Chen Xu and Tang Zhen came out of the library and unexpectedly saw Si Yichen. Si Yichen was also studying hard in a busy and orderly manner.
“That Si Yichen guy, although arrogant, is quite serious about studying.” Tang Zhen said quietly to Chen Xu.
Chen Xu glanced at Si Yichen, then withdrew his gaze coldly.
Si Yichen had no other virtues, but in order to get praise from Tao Minzhi and Si Ye, he had been studying hard since childhood, although his mentality had collapsed at one point, it seemed to have been adjusted now.
Perhaps the fire from the previous life had hurt too much, Chen Xu’s desire for revenge against Si Yichen had not disappeared. It was not enough. He would make Si Yichen suffer as much as possible, if Si Yichen wanted him dead, then he would make Si Yichen wish he were dead.
Chen Xu didn’t let the family driver pick him up. He went back to the dormitory to pack his things and bid farewell to Zhuyao. Then he and Zhu Yaoyuan said goodbye and walked out of the school.
“Chen Xu!”
The school gate was bustling with traffic, and a voice, both unfamiliar and familiar, suddenly stopped him.
Chen Xu turned his head at the sound and saw a face that seemed to have been from a previous life. “Tong Jiaxi?”
He almost didn’t recognize the person. Tong Jiaxi had lost a lot of weight, his cheeks were somewhat sunken, his skin had turned wax yellow, there were many calluses on his hands, his clothes were excessively loose, and the cuffs of his pants were rolled up several times, clearly not his clothes.
Tong Jiaxi’s eyes were bloodshot, dark circles under his eyes, indicating that he probably hadn’t slept well in a long time.
He looked at Chen Xu with a slightly crazy look, his pupils flickering, his fingers always picking at his other hand.
Chen Xu took a step back, his brow furrowing slightly. “Do you have something to say to me?”
“I’ve been waiting for you here.” Tong Jiaxi’s gaze followed Chen Xu’s closely, his eyes making Chen Xu uncomfortable, like a damp and cold sewer.
“I heard your wedding with Uncle Si was very grand. I envy you so much.” Tong Jiaxi’s eyes revealed a mixture of envy, jealousy, and hatred.
He didn’t care about Chen Xu’s attitude, and kept talking to himself, “Do you know how I begged Uncle Si? I told him I loved him, I’ve loved him since I was a child. I envy and resent you. How I wish I could be the one marrying him. I thought he would be moved by my love. But he scorned and cursed me, calling me shameless, accusing me of coveting him, the elder who provided for me.”
Tong Jiaxi squeezed his fingers until they turned white, lifting his face to stare at Chen Xu, his waxen face, dark circles under his eyes, and his mad gaze made him look like a demon crawling out of hell.
He tilted his head, seeming puzzled yet also questioning Chen Xu, “But aren’t we the same?”
Night fell, and the streetlights lit up one by one, casting their glow on Chen Xu’s face, reflecting a glimmer in his eyes. Tong Jiaxi’s accusations left him unable to retort.
In a sense, he and Tong Jiaxi were indeed similar. He, too, shamelessly coveted Si Ye, the elder who provided for him. What’s more, he was even more malicious. From the start, he had schemed to get close to Si Ye by taking advantage of him.
Seeing Chen Xu unable to speak, Tong Jiaxi suddenly laughed. He took a few steps back, seeming very happy. “You see, we’re actually the same. The only difference is that Uncle Si still has an interest in you. When he loses interest in you, you’ll end up like me, or even worse.”
An evil smile crept onto Tong Jiaxi’s face. “Do you remember what I told you? Uncle Si has a moonlight, maybe you don’t know, but your eyes are very similar. You think you’re so special, but you’re just a substitute.”
“You specially came here just to tell me this?” Chen Xu asked coldly, seemingly indifferent to Tong Jiaxi’s mention of the moonlight and the so-called substitute.
“Of course not only that, but I’ll be very happy if I can make your life less smooth.” Tong Jiaxi sincerely revealed a smile, “I can tell you who Uncle Si’s moonlight is.”
“But you have to give me some money.”
It turned out Tong Jiaxi came to ask him for money. Tong Jiaxi actually approached him for money, indicating that Tong Jiaxi’s days were really not easy.
Chen Xu’s lips curled slightly, but the smile didn’t reach his eyes. He coldly uttered three words, “Not interested.”
After saying that, he turned and left without a trace of nostalgia. His decisive action left Tong Jiaxi incredulous. He thought no one could refuse this news, and Chen Xu was no exception. Whether out of emotion or self-interest, Chen Xu shouldn’t have reacted like this. Wasn’t Chen Xu afraid that Si Ye’s moonlight would come and steal him away?
“Chen Xu! I didn’t lie to you! Uncle Si really has a moonlight. I’ve seen that person’s photo with my own eyes in a book on his shelf. Uncle Si often takes out that book to look at it. Do you think he’s looking at the book or the photo?” Tong Jiaxi quickly caught up, blocking Chen Xu, talking like a machine gun, his eyes firmly gripping Chen Xu.
After listening to Tong Jiaxi, Chen Xu asked him coldly, “Is that all? Can I go now?”
Tong Jiaxi stiffened all over, as if he had been paralyzed. He couldn’t understand how Chen Xu could be so calm.
Chen Xu took a few steps forward, then suddenly turned around and took out several red bills from his bag, handing them to Tong Jiaxi. Tong Jiaxi stiffly raised his head, hesitated for a few seconds, and then reached out his hand. However, just as his hand was about to touch the money, Chen Xu let go, and several red bills fell to the ground.
Tong Jiaxi’s pupils trembled, staring straight at the money that fell to the ground. He never thought that Chen Xu would humiliate him in this way. He thought Chen Xu had no temper.
“Even if what you said is true, so what?” Chen Xu’s cold question made Tong Jiaxi speechless, his eyes full of confusion, his body swaying.
Chen Xu saw the answer from his reaction, sneered, “Even if there isn’t, what kind of true love is it? I don’t know if I’m the most special to Si Ye, but I’m the one who married him. Even if what you said is true, and one day it will end miserably, it won’t change the fact that I am Si Ye’s legal spouse.”
His gaze was like a bright sword, piercing Tong Jiaxi’s heart, “Si Ye’s favoritism towards me is the biggest difference between me and you.”
