BPTCMW : Chapter 43

The night was quiet, the moonlight dappled. The two tall figures intertwined, creating a unique scene under the moonlit night.

Xia Yang stared at Han Yi for a while, his gaze involuntarily drifting from Han Yi’s high nose, thin lips, sharp jawline, to his slightly protruding Adam’s apple. After tracing these features, his eyes returned to meet Han Yi’s, who seemed to blend into the night.

What a handsome man…

At that moment, Han Yi was also looking at him, his large hand resting on Xia Yang’s back. Even through two layers of clothing, Xia Yang could faintly feel the warmth gradually increasing.

It was unclear how long they maintained this strange and ambiguous posture. Suddenly, a wild cat jumped out of the low bushes beside the path, meowing, breaking the atmosphere.

The kitten looked up at them, meowed again, and ran off. Xia Yang raised an eyebrow, tugging at Han Yi’s sleeve and softly asking, “Why do you think the cat ran away? Did it see something inappropriate for a cat?”

Han Yi: “…”

He cleared his throat, quickly letting go, and the two returned to a normal social distance.

After a brief pause, Han Yi pointed to the bright moonlit sky and said, “It’s about to rain. Let’s go upstairs.”

Xia Yang: “?”

No way, with such a big moon, how could it rain?

Han Yi’s night sky observation skills seemed questionable.

They walked back in silence. By the time they returned to their room, it was late.

Xia Yang had to return to the set the next day and went to the bathroom to shower. Han Yi sat at the desk, opening his laptop and seeing several unread emails in his work inbox.

Usually, he would open them and deal with each one, but tonight, he stared at the computer screen for a long time without moving.

Tonight, his mind was restless, seemingly unable to focus on work. The sound of the shower running made Han Yi involuntarily turn his head to look toward the bathroom.

For some reason, an image of Xia Yang flashed in his mind.

Vivid, lively, with bright deer-like eyes, tilting his head and calling him “Mr. Han.”

He closed his eyes, shook his head, and stood up, walking to the window. He looked out at the sea of lights under the serene night sky, a subtle emotion flickering in his eyes…

The next day, Xia Yang had to return to the set and got up before 7 AM.

Before finishing breakfast, his phone buzzed. The assistant director had sent him the shooting schedule for the next few days.

“Got it. I’ll head back soon. Thanks, bro~” He was eating and couldn’t type, so he sent a voice message, his voice soft.

Han Yi glanced at him and asked, “Work so early? Is your industry also into the 996 work culture?”

“Not that intense. The assistant director sent the shooting schedule,” Xia Yang chuckled, putting his phone down. With his mouth full, he continued, “Next week, we have a few outdoor action scenes, car chases, and wire stunts. The schedule is packed, and everyone needs to plan ahead.”

“Mm,” Han Yi shifted his gaze from Xia Yang’s face and sipped his coffee. “Use a stunt double if you can. Don’t push yourself too hard.”

Huh?

Xia Yang was surprised, looking at him with some astonishment.

Was that… a warm reminder? It seemed like the usually icy boss had been talking more recently.

“Mr. Han, I think your recent surgery was particularly successful,” he said, sipping his milk and blinking at him.

Han Yi asked, “Why?”

“Because it didn’t just fix your legs; it also healed your heart,” Xia Yang replied poetically.

“… ” Han Yi’s breathing paused for a moment. “What did you say?”

“Oh no, that’s not what I meant,” Xia Yang slapped his mouth lightly. “I meant to say, it not only healed your legs but also opened your heart. Modern medicine is really beyond human imagination, such great value!”

Han Yi: “…”

Xia Yang’s car chase scene was scheduled for Wednesday morning.

According to the plot, Shen Xing deduced that the wealthy husband of Lin You was highly suspicious. The person who attended the online conference before the incident was not the husband himself, but Lin Yi, who bore a 70% resemblance to him and had been made up to look even more similar.

Based on the latest information from the investigation team, Lin Yi, who had been “missing” for days, suddenly appeared in the underground parking lot of Liang Shanyi’s company, carrying two suitcases and seemingly preparing to flee…

“In this scene, Shen Xing and Xiao Chang will chase Lin Yi’s car. Xiao Chang’s highlight action scenes are in these few shots—kicking the car window, fighting with Lin Yi, forcing the car to stop, and arresting him,” the director explained and then seriously asked Xia Yang, “Xia, are you sure you don’t need a stunt double?”

Shooting car chase scenes is dangerous, and many people are unwilling to try it themselves.

“No need for a stunt double. The action director coached me all afternoon yesterday; it should be fine,” Xia Yang insisted on doing it himself.

He didn’t think of himself as a delicate flower needing protection, and in his previous life, he had also done action scenes—as a stunt double for others.

“Alright, be sure to stay safe. I don’t want our crew topping the hot search tomorrow,” the director patted his shoulder.

This scene involved chasing, car crashes, and explosions, with the production team investing real money. The director had applied for road closures for on-location shooting, modified several camera cars with large booms, and arranged for a professional medical team to stand by outside the set’s perimeter. All preparations were in place to ensure everyone’s safety.

After makeup, the director allowed the actors to get into character. Tang Siming and Xia Yang sat together in the car’s driver and passenger seats.

“Are you nervous?” Tang Siming handed Xia Yang an energy drink he had somehow obtained, opening the cap and passing it to him.

“Thank you,” Xia Yang smiled, took a sip, and replied, “To be honest, I’m a little nervous, but I’ll get used to it. It won’t affect my performance.”

“Good. You’re a dedicated actor with a bright future!” Tang Siming gave him a thumbs up, then checked his knee and wrist guards. Once sure they were secure, he reminded him, “Safety first. If you get even a scratch, Han Yi will come and kill me.”

“Don’t exaggerate,” Xia Yang laughed and waved it off.

He’s just a contract partner, while Tang Siming has been a close friend for years. Han Yi wouldn’t “value love over friendship.”

“He would, really,” Tang Siming said confidently. “Han Yi specifically asked me to take care of you.”

“Huh?” Xia Yang was stunned, wanting to ask when that happened, as he wasn’t aware of it.

But with the shoot about to start, there wasn’t time to delve into it. He decided to inquire later.

Refocusing, he saw the director on the other side of the street, talking to Lin Yi by the car, gesturing and explaining something.

Xia Yang shifted his attention back to the scene, seemingly remembering something. “Brother Tang, the emotion I should portray is anxiety, impatience, with a bit of aggression, right?”

Shen Xing is calm and composed, but Xiao Chang is not. At this point, he was eager to prove himself to Shen Xing, wanting his senior to see him in a new light. Hence, the scene where he kicks Lin Yi’s car window during the chase.

“Exactly,” Tang Siming nodded. “Imagine that in the car Lin Yi is driving away is your husband. If he leaves the city, he’ll take away the person you love most. So you’re desperate, giving chase, eager to stop him and make him pay.”

Xia Yang felt angry just imagining it: “Got it!”

Daring to abduct his husband, who do they think they are!

He was ready to kick that criminal.

“All units in position! All units in position!” The director’s voice came through the car’s intercom. Xia Yang and Tang Siming fastened their seatbelts and adjusted their expressions, getting into character.

“Ready, action!”

The engine roared, and the car sped off, kicking up dust…

That afternoon, the senior management of Yunding Group held a two-and-a-half-hour video conference. Regional managers across the country reported on the third-quarter financial results of the cruise industry and its affiliated sectors, achieving unprecedented peak performance. Market share in overseas markets also increased steadily, with several international tourist resorts sending letters of intent for cooperation.

The growth momentum was unprecedentedly strong.

After the reports, Chairman Han Yi announced at the video conference that he would end his “overseas research” and return to the company by the end of the month.

The senior executives burst into applause—

“Welcome back, Chairman Han!”

“Let’s celebrate!”

One executive was so excited he nearly shouted, “Long live the King…” but was stopped by someone next to him.

The sentiment was understandable. The chairman had been away for a year and eight months; this overseas research trip had been extremely lengthy.

Now, with the backbone of the company finally returning, the senior executives could breathe a sigh of relief.

After the meeting, Han Yi drank a cup of coffee, preparing to go for physical therapy. Although his recovery had been rapid, the doctor still recommended completing the physical therapy program.

As he opened the door and turned right towards the physical therapy room, he encountered two nurses huddled together, seemingly looking at something on a phone.

“Look, look, this is the news. It just happened at noon in the A city set,” one girl’s voice floated into his ears, causing Han Yi to slightly turn his head.

“A car accident occurred while filming on a set. A young actor was injured. Someone in the comments said the victim was crushed on the head and barely had a heartbeat when taken to the ambulance.”

“Oh my God! So serious? Who is it, who is it? It better not be my idol!”

“Not confirmed yet, but someone in the comments said the injured actor has an X surname, but they didn’t disclose the name.”

“What! X surname, could it… be Xia?”

Han Yi stopped abruptly, turning to face the two nurses.

The two were startled by his cold gaze. One girl tugged at the other’s sleeve and whispered in her ear, “Run! It must be this guy’s favorite actor.”

They quickly put away their phones and ran off.

Han Yi stood still, his mind filled with the nurses’ conversation. He clenched his fingers and pulled out his phone, quickly dialing Xia Yang’s number.

The first call went unanswered.

The second call went unanswered.

The third call, still no answer.

The ringing in the receiver was piercing, and Han Yi tightened his grip on the phone, feeling a sudden unease in his usually calm heart…
