HOLM : Chapter 46

Impossible, Absolutely Impossible

When disaster struck, Ji Mian and Chu Shiye were walking home.

The first scream pierced the air, and Ji Mian turned toward the sound while Chu Shiye instinctively raised an arm to shield him.

It was as if a fuse had been lit; in mere seconds, chaos erupted like scattered bombs, turning the city upside down in the blink of an eye.

Ji Mian: “What’s going on?”

A man in a frenzy charged at Ji Mian, and Chu Shiye immediately drew the short knife at his waist.

“Wait,” Ji Mian said, gently pressing Chu Shiye’s arm.

“Don’t kill him. Restrain him.”

Chu Shiye: “Alright.”

The knife returned to its sheath. The crazed man stumbled forward, only to be pinned down by Chu Shiye with ease.

The man wasn’t a supernatural ability user and didn’t have any weapons. In fact, he was quite frail. Chu Shiye subdued him effortlessly.

Ji Mian: “Take him over there.”

The streets were chaotic, so they dragged the man into a corner alley. Despite his bloodshot eyes and constant struggles, the crazed man couldn’t break free.

Ji Mian frowned slightly.

This state was identical to what Eren and Mark had experienced.

Chu Shiye held the man down, and Ji Mian crouched beside him, his fingers hovering above the man’s forehead.

The Light Goddess Butterfly spread its wings and soared, its shimmering starlight softly descending onto the man. It was as though the man were submerged in a galaxy of radiant stars, the light enveloping him.

His struggling body froze momentarily, and the bloodshot redness in his eyes began to fade, bit by bit.

The serene glow of the starry sea flowed, and Chu Shiye couldn’t take his eyes off Ji Mian in the middle of it all. In his dark brown irises, the faint flicker of the starlight reflected vividly.

In that moment, Chu Shiye thought Su Lan looked… breathtakingly beautiful.

Before long, Ji Mian withdrew his hand.

The crazed man fell unconscious. But before losing consciousness, he had stopped struggling and now lay quietly on the ground.

Ji Mian seemed lost in thought.

This man was an ordinary person, yet his mental power had spiraled out of control.

Typically, mental power awakens before the age of 18. If someone hasn’t awakened by then, they’ll remain an ordinary person for the rest of their life.

This crazed man was over 30, yet Ji Mian could clearly sense a faint trace of mental power when he conducted the mental healing.

But after the healing, that trace of mental power dissipated entirely, disappearing beyond Ji Mian’s perception.

There was only one explanation—before losing control, this man had been an ordinary person with no awakened mental power.

Ji Mian stood up. “We need to find Kane.”

If his guess was correct, these outbursts were linked to the Relief Society’s drugs—special medications that could temporarily trigger mental power in people.

Those who dlevel the medication would experience an artificial awakening of mental power. But because it was forcibly induced, they would fall into mental breakdowns almost immediately.

For those who already had abilities, drinking the drugs might temporarily enhance their mental power, but the end result would still be loss of control.

This was the likely cause of the current disaster.

Ji Mian was surprised—he had never heard of such drugs, even on the Capital Planet. But now that the problem was here, it needed a solution.

The Relief Society had distributed the drugs to the city’s residents, but before that, most of the drugs had been purchased from Kane.

In any case, Kane’s situation was precarious.

Ji Mian added, “Contact the guards. Have them detain all those who have lost control. I’ll treat them later.”

Chu Shiye frowned slightly. “But…”

There were too many people out of control.

He understood why Su Lan wanted to do this, but at this moment… he felt powerless to help Su Lan.

Ji Mian smiled at him. “Don’t worry, I’ll be fine.”

He paused, then added with a grin, “Besides, I have you, don’t I?”

“No matter what happens, you’ll stay by my side and protect me, won’t you?”

Chu Shiye’s gaze softened as he looked into Ji Mian’s smiling eyes. His expression brightened. “Yes.”

He would protect Su Lan, ensuring he wouldn’t be harmed.

The two made their way through the chaotic streets, heading toward Kane’s small shop.

Most of the people out of control were ordinary citizens. After the initial chaos, some of the remaining sane individuals began working together to subdue the crazed ones.

The real problem, however, lay with the ability users and armed guards who had also lost control.

Bloodshed and casualties became unavoidable.

Along the way, Ji Mian and Chu Shiye helped subdue several crazed individuals, instructing the unaffected people to take them to the city’s guard posts.

Fu Zeren’s response came late—some members of his guard team had lost control as well. Fortunately, they were quickly subdued. Ji Mian contacted Fu Zeren through his communicator, asking him to send more people to maintain order and detain the crazed individuals at the guard posts for treatment.

In a chaotic corner of the city, Kane had locked his shop door and was curled up behind the counter.

*Knock, knock, knock.*

Someone rapped on the door, and Kane flinched, clutching his laser gun tightly.

*Bang, bang, bang!*

When there was no response from inside, the knocking turned into forceful kicking, each blow sending vibrations through Kane’s body.

Trembling, Kane’s finger hovered over the trigger.

*Boom!*

The door burst open, and Kane poked his head out from behind the counter, aiming his gun at the doorway.

“Get out! Get o—”

His words caught in his throat when he saw the faces of the intruders.

Ji Mian walked straight up to Kane without wasting words. “Where did those drugs come from?”

Kane stammered, “W-What?”

“The treatment drugs the Relief Society bought from you—where did they come from?”

Kane’s face turned pale. He stuttered, “I-I…”

Chu Shiye leaned over the counter, his hands pressing down on it. “Answer.”

Kane clutched his head, whining, “Why are you scaring me! I didn’t do anything wrong!”

He blurted, “Those drugs were unloaded from a smuggling ship! They were cheap but perfectly normal!”

Kane continued, “I swear, I didn’t tamper with those drugs or anything! I’ve been in business for years—I’d never harm anyone. I’m innocent!”

Ji Mian calmly replied, “I believe you.”

Tears welled up in Kane’s eyes. “Mr. Su…”

“But,” Ji Mian added, “you need to come with us.”

“What?” Kane’s tears dried up instantly. “I’m not going! It’s too dangerous outside—I’m staying here!”

“If the Relief Society is behind this, they’ll need a scapegoat,” Ji Mian said evenly. “And who do you think they’ll choose?”

Kane froze.

Ji Mian continued, “Come with us. At least we’ll protect you.”

Kane hesitated, then Chu Shiye grabbed his collar and pulled him out.

“Fine, fine! I’ll go! Mr. Su, please protect me!” Kane wailed, trying to cling to Ji Mian.

Chu Shiye wordlessly blocked him with an arm.

Ji Mian: “Let’s go.”

The three of them turned around and hurried back toward the city’s security headquarters.

The city was still in chaos, and Fu Zeren’s guard team hadn’t managed to cover the entire city yet. On the way there, Ji Mian casually healed a few out-of-control individuals.

Kane watched in shock.

A healing ability… can it be used like this?

In his impression, healing abilities were typically used for treating wounds, not much else.

Oh wait, Mr. Su did mention before that he’s a support-type.

Support-type… can it be used like this too?

Chu Shiye glanced at Kane.

Kane: “?”

What’s the deal? I was just staring at Mr. Su for a little too long!

You’re so petty!

Without saying a word, Chu Shiye stepped forward, effectively blocking Kane’s last glimpse toward Ji Mian.

On the street below the tall building, the initial chaos seemed to have been suppressed.

An out-of-control individual charged into the crowd, only to be restrained by a few people working together.

At a corner of the street, a young man and a youth walked side by side. The former crouched down next to the out-of-control individual.

On the top floor of the high-rise building, Joshua’s gaze fell on the young man, and he spoke, “It seems, it’s not as exciting as we imagined.”

One of his subordinates replied, “Don’t worry, leader. This kind of drug has no cure. Even if a mental-type ability user were to come, it would be useless—besides, this planet doesn’t even have mental-type abilities. The strongest ability user here is just a useless B-level.”

“So, this planet is finished.”

As soon as the words left his mouth, a cheer from the crowd echoed from the street below. The out-of-control individual had been healed by Ji Mian and was now jumping up and down in place.

Subordinate: “???”

What’s this joke?! How could anyone heal these test subjects?!

Joshua smiled on the side, “No cure.”

“It’s useless.”

“It’s over.”

Subordinate: “……”
