After the chaos, the streets were left in shambles, with doors tightly shut in every home.
The guard team moved through the streets, with Fu Zeren leading the way. He walked respectfully beside Chu Shiye, speaking to him in a deferential tone.
Chu Shiye listened quietly, saying very little. Even when he did speak, it was just a simple “Mm.”
Without Ji Mian by his side, his eyes resembled a frozen lake—cold and impenetrable, with an icy depth beneath the frost and snow that concealed any emotion.
Or perhaps, this was his true nature.
Fu Zeren didn’t feel offended. On the contrary, he thought it was entirely normal.
After all, this Alpha was closely connected to Mr. Su, and he was undeniably strong.
With a single move, he had defeated City Lord Tansen. A man like that was not someone to cross lightly.
Thinking about it, Fu Zeren felt a mix of emotions.
Chu Shiye had lost his parents at a young age, had supposedly been stuck with E-level mental power, and couldn’t even summon a spiritual entity.
When Fu Zeren first met Chu Shiye, he had dismissed him as nothing more than a failure.
But somewhere along the way, he had become wary of even looking directly at this man.
Even without speaking, the icy aura around Chu Shiye was enough to make Fu Zeren feel uneasy deep in his heart.
Ahead of them was a crossroads.
To the left stood the tall building where City Lord Tansen resided. To the right, at the end of the street, was the headquarters of the Relief Society in the city.
Fu Zeren was about to lead the guard team to the right when he saw that Chu Shiye was already heading left.
Fu Zeren quickly reminded, “Mr. Chu, you’re going the wrong way. The headquarters of the Relief Society is that way.”
“That’s right,” Chu Shiye replied. “I’m going this way.”
Fu Zeren froze for a moment, realizing something, and immediately sent a few members of his team to the Relief Society’s headquarters while the rest followed Chu Shiye.
Below the high-rise where Tansen lived, the guard team began searching floor by floor.
Chu Shiye went straight to the top floor. In front of the floor-to-ceiling windows, a glass of red wine had been half-drunk and quietly left on the table.
Beside the glass, a delicate badge glimmered slightly under the sunlight.
Chu Shiye picked up the badge. It was engraved with a pattern of stars and an eye.
This was a Relief Society badge deliberately left behind.
Chu Shiye’s expression showed no surprise.
From the very beginning, those people had never intended to hide anything.
“Sir, we’ve checked. There are no members of the Relief Society at the city lord’s place.”
“Sir, the Relief Society’s headquarters is empty. Everything has been moved out.”
The guard team returned empty-handed. Fu Zeren’s face turned pale. “What?! I’ve already locked down the city! How did they leave?!”
The guard team members were silent. Fu Zeren paced back and forth, his face grim.
They had sealed off the city too late.
The murderer of the assault case, Eren, had inexplicably fallen into a vegetative state last night, and this morning, Mark was the one causing harm. Following Mr. Su’s instructions, Fu Zeren had investigated the homes of the two men and had just confirmed the Relief Society’s involvement. The chaos had already erupted citywide.
City Lord Tansen had long been controlled by the Relief Society, and for those people, this city was just a place they could come and go as they pleased.
Now it seemed that the citywide chaos was certainly caused by them. Realizing their plans were about to be exposed, they chose to flip the table to cover their escape.
Fu Zeren was frustrated. “What do they want to do? What are they trying to get from us?!”
“They’ve already gotten the result they wanted.”
At the guard station, Ji Mian received the message from Chu Shiye, his expression unchanged, as if he had already expected it.
Kane, standing nearby, was astonished. “What result? This city being in chaos, is that what they wanted?”
Ji Mian nodded. “Exactly.”
The so-called Lusuk that the Relief Society followed was nothing but a façade. They invented a name and disguised themselves as a church.
From the very beginning, what they sought was not fame or reputation, but chaos—chaos brought on by the treatment drugs they distributed.
The beasts in the mines were released by them, meant to divert the city leaders and the powerful abilities of the city.
The assaults and beast attacks were also their doing, aimed at destabilizing the people’s hearts and bringing the Relief Society into the limelight.
Afterward, the Relief Society, under the guise of Lusuk, distributed large amounts of treatment drugs and recruited many members—not to increase their own power, but to get more people to drink those special drugs.
It was all an experiment, and everyone on this planet was merely a test subject, all for the results seen today.
Kane shuddered. Although he hadn’t done anything for the Relief Society, many of the initial ordinary drugs had been bought from him by the Relief Society.
“I… I…”
“It’s not your fault,” Ji Mian said. “Even if it wasn’t you, they would have bought those drugs from someone else.”
“The one who deliberately created this chaos isn’t you, but them.”
The Relief Society, behind its false name, was a powerful interstellar organization. They had casually chosen a remote planet, conducted an experiment, as if plucking a flower from their own garden without a second thought.
Ji Mian tried to recall such an organization from his memory, but to no avail.
This was an interstellar group he had never even heard of, developing a drug that he himself had never seen before.
But fortunately, things weren’t as bad as they seemed.
Because the out-of-control people were healing.
As the next out-of-control person was treated and taken away, Kane brought Ji Mian a glass of water.
“Mr. Su, have some water and rest a bit.”
Ji Mian asked, “How many more are there?”
A guard nearby checked the list in his hand. “There are still… thirty-two left.”
His tone was filled with surprise and respect.
So far, Mr. Su had continuously treated thirty out-of-control people.
This was an astonishing number. Even the planet’s most powerful healers, under normal circumstances, could only treat a dozen or so in a day.
What the guards didn’t realize was that Ji Mian wasn’t just a simple healer; he was providing mental guidance—something that no ordinary healer could do.
It was far more difficult and draining on his mental energy than regular treatment.
Ji Mian lightly pressed his forehead. “I understand. I’ll rest for a while.”
He stood up, but suddenly staggered and began to fall backward.
“Mr. Su!”
A shocked cry rang out, and Kane and the guards rushed forward to support him.
“…I’m fine.”
Ji Mian collapsed into the chair. His temples throbbed with sharp pain, and for a moment, darkness covered his vision.
Kane said, “Mr. Su, you can’t be like this! If something happens to you, that kid Chao Shiye will definitely not let me off!”
A guard added, “Mr. Su, let me find you a room to rest in. We can take it slow with the remaining people.”
Ji Mian could hardly hear their voices clearly. He closed his eyes for a moment, whispering, “I might need to sleep for a while.”
The other two quickly agreed, helping him to his feet.
Ji Mian waved them off, signaling that he could walk on his own, and slowly made his way out of the room.
Click.
The door to the room swung open.
Bang!
A man was thrown out, crashing heavily onto the floor of the hall.
In an instant, chaos broke out. Screams and confusion filled the air, and Ji Mian lifted his gaze.
In his blurred vision, at the entrance of the guard station, amidst the fallen guards, a man in a black trench coat stepped forward, his footsteps steady and deliberate.
Ji Mian slightly closed his eyes. When he opened them again, his vision cleared a little, revealing the man’s face.
Black Snake.
The B-level ability user who hadn’t shown himself during the chaos of the city was now here.
His dull, lifeless eyes had no shine, just like the ones on Tansen earlier.
“What’s going on?!”
Kane peeked his head out, realizing the intruder was Black Snake. He also noticed the fallen guards at the entrance and his heart instantly rang with alarm.
This person wasn’t here for friendly reasons!
And just when Mr. Su was in such a weak state… Damn, did he come at this exact moment on purpose?
Was he part of the Relief Society ?
“Mr. Su!”
The guards inside the room rushed forward, raising their guns.
“Run! I’ll buy you some time!”
Ji Mian said nothing. He simply raised his hand, gently placing it on one of the guards’ shoulders, signaling him to step back.
Black Snake crossed the threshold of the guard station, pausing briefly. His empty, unfocused eyes shifted toward Ji Mian.
A cold wind blew, and a giant boa constrictor, several meters long, materialized in the wind, its massive mouth opening wide.
Kane shivered, instinctively wanting to turn and run. But when he saw Ji Mian still standing in front of him, he hesitated. Instead of fleeing, he pulled out his communicator and quickly typed a message.
The giant boa constrictor slowly raised its head, arching its body as its cold, lifeless snake eyes fixed intently on Ji Mian, its gaze predatory.
An icy, blue light, sharp as the gleam of a drawn sword, surged in Ji Mian’s eyes.
The next second, he pressed his hand against his temple, the light in his eyes flickering and dimming.
His mental energy… had been over-depleted.
The mental guidance had drained far more than any battle could, not to mention the continuous treatment of thirty people.
At the same time, Black Snake moved.
The cold wind rushed toward Ji Mian, and blood seeped from the corner of his mouth. The storm-like blue light in his eyes flickered again, an ominous sign…
Just as the giant boa constrictor opened its massive jaws, roaring toward Ji Mian, Chu Shiye arrived at the entrance of the guard station.
He saw the massive snake lunging toward Ji Mian, and his pupils constricted sharply.
Instinctively, he released his spiritual entity.
A violent hurricane swirled around him as a small white snake fell to the ground. In an instant, the snake’s body expanded, growing in size to rival that of the boa constrictor.
But unlike the boa, this one had four limbs, its claws sharp as poison-tipped blades. Its body was covered in armor-like scales, and its dark brown eyes, like Chu Shiye’s, gleamed with a faint golden sheen.
It was a strange spiritual entity, resembling a snake but not quite.
However, at this moment, none of the onlookers thought it was strange.
Because as soon as this colossal entity appeared, it immediately suppressed the B-level boa constrictor.
With ease, its steel-like claws tore through the boa’s body. The white snake hovered above, looking down at the boa as an eagle would look down on an ant.
In the next moment, its claws shredded the constrictor.
As the spiritual entity collapsed, Black Snake coughed up a large mouthful of blood. Blood dripped from the corner of his eye, and a short sword unsheathed. The cold, gleaming blade, like a scythe of death, swung down.
Blood splattered.
Ji Mian closed his eyes—not out of reluctance to watch, but because his mental energy was on the brink of exhaustion, and the pain in his skull was unbearable.
When Ji Mian opened his eyes again, he saw the black-haired young man standing in the middle of a pool of blood, his body soaked in it.
The young man stared at Ji Mian intently, and only when Ji Mian met his gaze did he begin to move, slowly stepping toward him.
Ji Mian stood still, quietly waiting for him.
Chu Shiye stopped just a step away from Ji Mian.
He raised his arm slightly and gently took Ji Mian’s hand.
Then, he pulled him into his embrace, holding him tightly.
Ji Mian smelled the blood, as well as Chu Shiye’s scent.
The Alpha trembled slightly as he held Ji Mian’s arm, lowering his head to rest against his ear. His voice was hoarse, filled with sadness and grievance. “I never want to leave you again.”
Ji Mian was silent for a few seconds, the corners of his eyes curling into a gentle smile.
He gently patted Chu Shiye’s tense shoulder, his voice soft and carrying a soothing tone. “Alright, I understand.”
