AFMD : Chapter 22 part 1

The assistant still reflexively tried to intervene: “You can’t hit him! This will make headlines!”

But nobody paid him any attention. The assistant felt like an extra who had wandered onto the wrong set.

Wen Biyan’s mind went blank for about five or six seconds. By the time his will regained control of his body, he had already firmly embraced Gu Xi.

Gu Xi, recalling his two days of overtime work and hurried arrival, struggled for a moment to push Wen Biyan away.

“You…” he started to say.

“I’m not going to hit anyone” Wen Biyan cut him off, holding Gu Xi firmly. “You’re not allowed to speak.”

Gu Xi somehow sensed a hint of tears and grievances in Wen Biyan’s authoritative and stiff tone. He suddenly remembered two years ago when he had been too busy with work to take his son to the aquarium on his birthday. His son had also clung to him tightly, understanding his father’s hardships and silently bearing the disappointment in his heart.

Gu Xi patted Wen Biyan’s back gently. His son was considerate beyond his years, always wanting to help lighten his burden.

After initially worrying about working with Wen Biyan, Gu Xi felt somewhat relieved. In his moments of inadequacy, Gu Wen Shu had met Wen Biyan, another father who had accompanied him and helped him develop his independence.

“Thank you” Gu Xi said softly.

The word “thank you” brought Wen Biyan back to reality. What was he being thanked for? Who was he thanking?

“Are you married?!” Wen Biyan interrupted, grabbing Gu Xi’s shoulders. Every time he saw Gu Xi, all other thoughts vanished from his mind. He couldn’t even connect the dots between Gu Xi, his son, and the resemblance.

Gu Xi stiffened for a moment, unsure of how to explain.

“I’m sorry, I…” Wen Biyan’s vision darkened for a moment. He had waited for four years, only to be greeted with the news of Gu Xi getting married and having a child!

But besides this outcome, what else had he been waiting for?

Without even realizing it, he had been protecting the son Gu Xi had with another woman as if he were his own treasure. No wonder he always felt powerless against the child, especially when he secretly called him on the phone. It turned out father and son were conspiring against him!

Wen Biyan clenched his fists and gritted his teeth. Before he could do something even more embarrassing and humiliating, he stormed out.

“Hey…” the assistant called out, puzzled. Just a moment ago, Wen Biyan was threatening to hit someone, but now he was running away like a defeated rooster?

Gu Xi wanted to go after Wen Biyan, but his son was calling out to him, half-asleep, “Can you help me check on him and ask him to come back? I have something to say.”

The assistant followed after them, feeling a bit bewildered. Why was it “help him”?

Wen Biyan went straight to the parking lot. The headlights of a car parked crookedly flashed from afar. When Wen Biyan went to open his car door, he noticed another white car parked even more irregularly in front of him. The owner seemed to have rushed off without even rolling up the windows.

Wen Biyan’s car was blocked in by the other car. Frustrated, he kicked the front of the car.

With a “bang” the headlights shattered, and a dent appeared on the car body.

Wen Biyan paused for a moment, realizing that the car had already been scratched. Feeling annoyed, he saw a notepad and pen on the car’s dashboard and reached out to grab them, intending to leave his assistant’s contact information for the owner.

Wen Biyan popped open the pen cap with one hand and was about to write when he was stunned by the familiar handwriting on the notepad.

He flipped through a few pages, disregarding any concerns about privacy. Eventually, he confirmed that it was Gu Xi’s handwriting. There were notes about various small things, like buying colored pens for his son today.

It’s Gu Xi’s car!

Wen Biyan remembered that Gu Xi had answered a phone call last night after midnight, saying he was working overtime. He had driven here himself this morning. How far away was Gu Xi from here? Wen Biyan pressed his forehead, feeling a strong sense of relief and nearly collapsing from the surge of post-dangerous situations.

If he hadn’t pressured Gu Xi, irrationally venting his anger, how could Gu Xi have rushed here? He probably hit a guardrail on the way…

Wen Biyan calmed down and retraced his steps.

When passing by the obstetrics and gynecology department, Wen Biyan paused and turned in.

As soon as the assistant stepped out, Wen Biyan disappeared. After searching around without finding him, the assistant returned to look for his phone, intending to call the agent.

Had Wen Biyan gone to get drunk by some riverbank again? The assistant felt a pang of worry. Every time some special anniversary came up, he had to drag Wen Biyan and his car back, facing his worsening temper each time.

“No” Gu Xi suddenly felt grateful for his intuition. When he saw Wen Biyan’s car in the parking lot, he subconsciously drove over and blocked him. Perhaps he had a premonition that today’s meeting wouldn’t go smoothly and preemptively prevented Wen Biyan from acting impulsively. But what Gu Xi didn’t anticipate was that they hadn’t even exchanged a complete sentence.

Unable to reach Wen Biyan on his phone, he was now holding a number slip for the obstetrics and gynecology department, sitting on a waiting room chair, contemplating as he watched men and women pass by.

If his face had appeared somewhere else, it would have caused a commotion. Coincidentally, this was a costly hospital, and the obstetrics and gynecology department was nationally renowned. Wen Biyan was surrounded by pregnant women, but he couldn’t outrun the star chasers here.

The obstetrics chief, who was getting on in years, looked at the young man before him with pity. How could someone so young have such a broken mind?

“Can men give birth?” Wen Biyan asked.

The chief smiled, “No.”

“Well, if someone’s child looks a lot like their ex-boyfriend, what could be the reason for that?”

The chief replied with a proverbial saying, “It sounds like the sound of rain falling on a verdant meadow.”

Wen Biyan struggled to explain, “First of all, this person is a man. Does that mean he still loves his ex-boyfriend, so the child looks like him? Like how people have thoughts during the day and dreams at night?”

Wen Biyan didn’t know what he was trying to prove, and his words sounded absurd even to himself.

People in the entertainment industry really made one worry about their education levels. The chief, still maintaining a professional demeanor, thought to himself, “Coincidence, or perhaps you are long-lost brothers.”

He suggested turning right to the orthopedic department.

Wen Biyan: “…”

Not only did he fail to get the answer he wanted, but he also felt a bellyful of anger for no reason. Wen Biyan walked out of the obstetrics and gynecology department feeling frustrated. Why? Why could Gu Xi intervene in his life everywhere, even blocking his car!

Wen Biyan wandered around the rooftop like a trapped beast for a while. Eventually, unable to resist his longing for Gu Xi, he went back to the ward where the child was.

The child had just woken up and was about to cry when he saw Gu Xi. Gu Xi, feeling sorry for him, held his hand to prevent him from scratching and told him stories to soothe him to sleep.

Struggling to keep his eyelids from closing, Gu Xi prayed silently for his son to fall asleep quickly. “Go to sleep, once you’re asleep, you won’t feel uncomfortable anymore. Your Uncle Wen might be crying somewhere now.”

Gu Xi looked at his son, fair-skinned and with red patches on his face, feeling sorry for him. He knew that if his son felt wronged and didn’t speak up, he might express his feelings inappropriately. The thought made him somewhat anxious.

Wen Biyan had been gone for a while, and the assistant had disappeared as well. Gu Xi couldn’t help but feel sleepy and rested his head on the edge of the bed, squinting his eyes.

When Wen Biyan returned, he saw the father and son sleeping peacefully. He cursed silently, feeling heartless, carefully moving Gu Xi and the child’s hands apart and carrying them to separate beds.

For four years, he had deliberately indulged his temper. But in front of his loved ones, he automatically restrained himself, like a tired bird returning to its nest. He couldn’t even get angry if he wanted to.

Pathetic.

Wen Biyan turned around and saw the child’s frowning face, taking Gu Xi’s previous spot, silently looking at him.

Even if he was Gu Xi’s child with someone else, the more Wen Biyan looked at him, the more he liked him. Wen Biyan squeezed the child’s little finger and sighed.

Who else could he be a father to in his lifetime? Considering the child calls him “Uncle Wen” he considered it a win.

Wen Biyan got lost in his thoughts. Suddenly, the image of Gu Xi’s memo pad flashed in his mind, with “Gu Wen Shu’s birthday” written clearly on it.

His mind went blank. Despite both of them being admitted to a prestigious university based on their excellent grades and meeting each other, Wen Biyan felt as clueless as the obstetrics chief about the average math skills in the entertainment industry.

He must have been assimilated by those idiots! How could they still have a child before they broke up no matter how you calculate it?

Wen Biyan’s face turned green as he took out a memo pad, doing elementary school math calculations meticulously, verifying them three times, more seriously than he did during the college entrance examination.

He suddenly looked up at Gu Xi, was he green?

No… Gu Xi wasn’t that kind of person.
