Story 6 : “The Enemy of Fans”
In the realm of shipping circles, there’s a legendary scissor hands with five million fans, capable of crafting videos for any CP (couple pairing) you can think of! Half of the videos he produces come with a warning: “High energy! Childbirth scene! Viewer discretion advised!”
And, of course, one actor always takes the spotlight.
This scissor hands, affectionately called “Madame” by millions, is Gu Nian, a male post-production artist in the entertainment industry. With his powerful skills and imagination, he can create romantic scenes even between non-interacting actors. He’s considered the top storyteller in the industry and a treasure to the entire post-production team.
Due to some personal grudges with the actor Duan Shen, Gu Nian, in his spare time, vented his frustrations by impregnating the fiery actor in countless fictional videos. To date, he has enough videos to fill a kindergarten class of thirty-five.
Initially, he only uploaded videos under a pseudonym, but they unexpectedly gained strong attention from CP fans. A professional scissor hands entering the shipping circle was akin to a god descending to earth, creating magic out of thin air. Fans showered him with rainbow-colored praises, declaring him a genius and his every frame a masterpiece.
Because of his obsession with Duan Shen, Gu Nian’s computer contained almost every piece of work Duan Shen had done since his debut, neatly categorized and readily accessible.
To save time, he only accepted requests related to Duan Shen’s clips.
CP fans had a love-hate relationship with him. While they admired Gu Nian’s skills, they also resented how he would build up their favorite CPs one day and tear them apart the next.
Two years later, a large portion of young entertainers in the industry fell victim to the poisonous shipping culture.
All the fans of Duan Shen, especially, despised Gu Nian to the core, tearing him apart emotionally and even forming an alliance against him.
However, there was one group of fans who didn’t participate.
They were the fans of Gu Xiaosheng.
Because Gu Nian had never edited any videos involving him and Duan Shen. It was widely known how massive the fanbase was for the pairing of Gu Xiaosheng and Duan Shen, with CP fans offering exorbitant prices for just a three-minute video, begging Gu Nian to edit one.
But Gu Nian refused all of them.
Hence, the conclusion was drawn: Scissor Hands was the poison in Gu Xiaosheng’s life.
Half of the comments under Gu Xiaosheng’s posts on Weibo were filled with vicious curses from fans—”For every video you edit, Gu Xiaosheng will be in hiatus for three years!”
Gu Xiaosheng’s fans rallied together, lamenting, “Why should our brother bear the brunt? He’s just a kid!”
Actually, they weren’t wrong.
Gu Nian was Gu Xiaosheng. His debut was purely accidental, as he was roped in for a segment of a variety show due to an urgent need for video editing. The show was already popular, and Gu Nian, with his innocent and unpretentious beauty, immediately won over the audience.
“Son, being a tech geek is too hard. Mommy begs you to debut! Mommy won’t allow you to stay up late editing videos anymore! I’ll pay for your debut!”
He was the company’s little darling, loved by everyone from the CEO to the interns. Seeing Gu Nian’s potential and connections, the company decided to push him into the limelight.
Gu Xiaosheng’s acting skills were mediocre, and he lacked ambition. However, he also caused no trouble, so he was cast in minor roles, simply showing his face to fans and occasionally releasing some material to keep them satisfied.
“I feel like time stands still whenever I see him!” exclaimed the fans, in awe.
Of course, everything was just a facade of tranquility.
Privately, Gu Nian held deep grudges!
All three goddesses he pursued in university confessed that they loved Duan Shen and were willing to be his brainless fans for life. There was no hope for Gu Nian.
Gu Nian harbored jealousy towards the actor for a full four years!
After his debut, Gu Nian became increasingly busy with work, and his envy towards Duan Shen gradually evaporated over time. He announced his retirement from the industry on a secondary Weibo account, and the fans of Duan Shen celebrated while the prizes in the reposted lottery were jaw-dropping. However, fans of Gu Xiaosheng were prohibited from participating.
Fans of Gu Xiaosheng: “…” What did our brother do wrong?!
After wrapping up filming for a drama one day, Gu Nian found himself bored and dug out a dusty video from his project files.
He started editing, and the keywords were still “Duan Shen” and “childbirth.”
With the spirit of seeing things through, he stayed up all night to finish the video.
The computer kept emitting warning sounds, seemingly indicating an overload.
Confused by the situation, as he hadn’t used his computer for some time, Gu Nian wondered if his top-notch setup could handle the workload without crashing.
Suddenly, a bright light flashed before his eyes, and Gu Nian was sucked into a temporal tunnel.
—Welcome to the world of 2D.
He stood there, stunned, and saw the protagonist of the video he had just edited, Duan Shen, right in front of him.
“Hello, I am the dimensional barrier system. At the request of the director of the 2D Family Planning Bureau, we’ve invited you two to help with a little problem.”
“Due to the abundance of childbirth content in the CPs you’ve edited, there’s an overload of babies in the 2D world, and we can’t take care of them all. Therefore, we have to trouble you two to come and help.”
Gu Nian was left speechless in the face of thirty-six cradles: …
The image of the actor was different from his public persona; he was a temperamental and aloof guy. “Why does this concern me?”
System: “We’re worried that Mr. Gu won’t be able to handle the responsibility. In a sense, you are the father of these children.”
Duan Shen’s expression turned dark as he grabbed Gu Xiaosheng, the culprit, by the collar. “I demand an explanation from you.”
Some people may seem to be enjoying a life of luxury on the surface, but deep down, they’re scared.
Gu Xiaosheng knelt down, clinging to Duan Shen’s legs in remorse. “I’m sorry!”
Gu Nian confessed to his actions and admitted that he brought this upon himself. Duan Shen was completely innocent and got dragged into this mess.
Duan Shen looked down at Gu Nian, his expression unreadable. He asked the system, “How long do we have to stay here?”
System: “Don’t worry, it won’t affect your life in the 3D world. Just come over after you’ve fallen asleep.”
Duan Shen: “That’s not what I asked.”
System chuckled, “Naturally, until these children reach adulthood.”
Eighteen years!
Gu Nian was thunderstruck, and his vision darkened.
Then he was awakened by the crying of the children. Whether he liked it or not, the situation was set in stone. With the cries of thirty-six children echoing through the room, Duan Shen directed Gu Xiaosheng to change diapers and prepare milk. Even though they were supposedly Duan Shen’s sons, they had no resemblance to him, as they were created from video clips edited by Gu Nian.
In conclusion, Duan Shen found it difficult to feel paternal affection and acted completely indifferent, like a bystander.
Gu Xiaosheng was clumsy, and just as he finished feeding one child, another one would start crying.
But that wasn’t the scariest part.
The scariest part was that almost all thirty-six children looked identical.
Even the cutest creatures could be overwhelming in large numbers, especially when they crawled around during bath time. Gu Xiaosheng would wash one child thoroughly, only to put them back into the group of children, who would soon blend together again.
He wiped his hands, sighed, and picked up another child, ready to give them a bath.
“Idiot, that one’s already been washed,” Duan Shen mocked out of nowhere.
Gu Nian: “…”
