Shen Hui had heard that the blind date partner arranged by his employer was highly cultured and knowledgeable, as well as reserved and cold, making it difficult to get close to. Shen Hui decided to counter this by going to the opposite extreme.
He deliberately chose a burgundy wavy wig, applied foundation liberally to his face and neck as if it were free, creating a thick layer that not only completely concealed his true gender but also gave off a plastic-like scent, making it almost unrecognizable even to himself. Upon entering, he immediately took off his suit jacket to reveal a thin spaghetti strap dress underneath.
The waiter first served Pu’er tea in the elegant and clean private room, where wisps of smoke rose. From Shen Hui’s hairstyle to his outfit, it was a completely different style, as if he had been forcefully photoshopped into the scene, appearing beautiful but unsuitable for marriage.
With heavy makeup and revealing clothing, Shen Hui believed that the blind date partner would surely be repelled. Oh, and he also needed to be excessively intimate in his behavior.
The wooden sliding door lightly sounded three times as it was pushed open to the left. Shen Hui first saw three fingers resting on the door frame, the nails round and neatly trimmed, the knuckles like jade. Without waiting for the other person to enter, Shen Hui immediately grabbed his wrist eagerly, “Why are you just arriving?”
Shen Hui noticed the identity of his employer as the daughter of the chairman but didn’t get too intimate, just lightly holding the other’s arm and speaking arrogantly, as if acting refined.
Shen Hui clearly felt the muscles in the other’s wrist tense up, indicating a tendency to pull back. In an instant, he flashed a big smile, correctly judging that this person didn’t like being too familiar. So he took advantage of the situation and took a step forward, pushing open the door.
Before Lin Jingming even entered the room, he was grabbed by the hand. Frowning, he instinctively formed his right hand into a fist to minimize physical contact and pushed her aside, suddenly feeling that the voice sounded eerily familiar.
As the door opened, Shen Hui’s face still bore a delicate smile. Lin Jingming reacted faster than him and was about to push his hand away, but Shen Hui immediately clutched it tightly, twisting his hands back and pressing him against the door.
In the blink of an eye, Shen Hui recognized the face of his blind date partner and almost fainted, feeling incredibly lucky. “Aren’t you supposed to be studying?” Lin Jingming stared at Shen Hui’s exaggerated makeup, pinching his chin and turning his face.
The two were too close, and Lin Jingming was choked by the smell of Shen Hui’s wig. He stepped back slightly, leaving two fingerprints on Shen Hui’s foundation.
“This… how thick is this?” Lin Jingming was a bit speechless, looking at Shen Hui’s embarrassed, annoyed, and frightened expression, feeling a little amused.
Shen Hui tried to defend himself, “Professor Lin said I should balance work and rest.”
“You balance this, and come here to blind date?” Lin Jingming raised an eyebrow.
Seizing the opportunity as Lin Jingming released his grip, Shen Hui immediately said, “I’m in the wrong place, I’ll go…”
But before he could finish, Shen Hui stooped low and slipped out from under Lin Jingming’s arm, taking a few steps before suddenly feeling weightless as he was lifted by the waist and placed on the opposite table.
Lin Jingming gave him a warning look, then whispered to the waiter as he left the room. Soon after, the waiter brought three clean hot towels, widening his eyes at the fingerprints on Shen Hui’s cheeks.
Had the young lady sitting there just experienced violence?
Due to Shen Hui’s crooked wig, the visual effect was even more terrifying.
The waiter signaled to Shen Hui: If you’re being threatened, just blink.
Shen Hui awkwardly wiped his cheeks, trying to even out the foundation.
The waiter: “…”
Shen Hui saw Lin Jingming reaching for a towel and knew what he was going to do.
Sure enough, the next moment, a warm, damp cotton cloth covered his face, and Shen Hui was forced to remove his makeup.
Three towels in a row, and his cheeks were flushed red.
Shen Hui didn’t dare to resist, feeling like a lamb being led to the slaughter. He remembered one time in high school when he lied to Lin Jingming about being sick at home and went on a joyride with Huang Mao to a faraway place. Both he and Huang Mao were afraid of Lin Jingming, but Huang Mao couldn’t find a “girlfriend” as daring and easy to take out as him. So they decided to go somewhere Lin Jingming would never find… This incident proved that there was no absolute certainty in the world.
When he returned home that day, Shen Hui found his door broken, with a box of medicine on the table. It was easy to guess who had broken the door with such force. Lin Jingming, carrying fever-reducing medicine outside the door for a long time, eventually resorted to breaking the door. But the kid wasn’t even at home.
As Lin Jingming wiped Shen Hui’s face, Shen Hui obediently tilted his head left and right, like a delicate puppet. Shen Hui remembered how terrified he had been at that time and wondered how he had dealt with it. He couldn’t quite recall.
Lin Jingming began to think he might be a little crazy, finding it oddly amusing to wipe Shen Hui’s face.
This kind of catching Shen Hui in the act, frustrating yet funny, had happened countless times, but always only with Shen Hui. However, this person never seemed to learn, always surprising him. Just like this face, each wipe revealed a different layer, only patience and care could reveal the true Shen Hui hidden underneath all the layers.
Lin Jingming took off his coat and handed it to Shen Hui. He looked better in men’s clothing. “Don’t throw it away this time.”
Shen Hui felt utterly embarrassed for getting caught throwing clothes away by the owner.
Lin Jingming tossed the towel into the trash can and sat opposite Shen Hui. He picked up the menu and asked, “What do you want to eat?”
Shen Hui was restless, wishing he could magically summon a textbook into his hand. “I, I have to go back to study.”
“Wasn’t this a blind date?” Lin Jingming remained calm. “Continue.”
Shen Hui couldn’t understand Lin Jingming’s thought process. Knowing that he was here as a stand-in for someone else’s blind date, how could he continue with this?
“Well, um, Miss Dong had something come up unexpectedly today…” Shen Hui didn’t know how to excuse his employer. As a stand-in, the employer had provided enough money, but due to his personal reasons, the situation had gone awry. This was a serious accident that could potentially affect her lifelong decision. But how could he lie in front of Lin Jingming? It felt like he’d be exposed before even speaking.
He almost got down on his knees and begged Lin Jingming.
Lin Jingming wasn’t particularly enthusiastic about blind dates; it was just a procedure he had to go through since he was getting older and didn’t have a partner. Compared to that, teasing Shen Hui was much more fun. He was just worried about how to approach Shen Hui, but Shen Hui had conveniently presented himself.
“Let’s see how you perform,” Lin Jingming quickly ordered a few dishes on the electronic menu, which automatically sent the order.
Shen Hui couldn’t figure out Lin Jingming’s intentions. “What performance?”
“You ruined my blind date, so you owe me one,” Lin Jingming raised an eyebrow. “The matchmaker said she was knowledgeable and elegant. You need to show me when you’ve achieved that.”
Those were eight difficult words to fulfill… He might end up owing Lin Jingming for a lifetime.
Shen Hui protested, “How can you blame me for ruining it? Even if it wasn’t me, someone else would have taken the money to do it.”
But the others wouldn’t have been exposed.
“Oh? Then I’ll go tell the matchmaker,” Lin Jingming threatened.
“Don’t—” Shen Hui yielded. It felt good to accept an order in the moment, but the after-sales service was like going through hell.
After the dishes were served, Shen Hui was surprised to hear Lin Jingming say, “I remember you liked these dishes? Sorry, maybe my memory isn’t very good.”
“Thank you,” Shen Hui picked up his chopsticks, feeling a bit choked up. He couldn’t bear to eat any of the dishes.
“You’re too skinny,” Lin Jingming picked up several pieces of food for him. “You haven’t gained any weight in three years. Where did all the money you earned go?”
Shen Hui couldn’t answer that question. It wasn’t spent on indulging in food and drink. He liked to buy nonsensical things he didn’t need, spending whatever he could afford. He had even shipped packages back home because there was no space in the dorm. Shen Hui had bought all sorts of German-imported knives, kitchen utensils, and boilers, but in reality, he had never even lit a fire once.
He didn’t know why he bought them, perhaps because in a distant fantasy, if he had a home, everything in it should be like this, spending all his savings on it.
Shen Hui looked at the pig’s trotters in his bowl and suddenly changed the subject, “You’re still not married.”
Lin Jingming teased, “Yeah, but I adopted a son three years ago.”
“Shen Hui,” Lin Jingming suddenly turned serious, “Do you know if this kid has passed the rebellious phase?”
Could he escape from him everywhere?
Shen Hui was choked up and couldn’t speak. He hastily shoveled some rice into his mouth, mumbling, “Who said he’s your son.”
After finishing the meal, Shen Hui wanted to take his women’s suit with him, but Lin Jingming retaliated by confiscating his clothes. “I’ll compensate you with a new one.”
“No need,” Shen Hui watched helplessly as Lin Jingming threw his women’s clothes into the trash can. “Then I should also compensate you for one.”
“You don’t need to.”
Lin Jingming drove Shen Hui to the nearest mall’s men’s section and picked out a few sets of clothes. When Shen Hui swiped his card, he couldn’t help but feel emotional. They had both graduated from the same unremarkable high school, both majoring in finance and law at good universities, so why wasn’t Shen Hui as wealthy as Lin Jingming?
Lin Jingming dropped Shen Hui off at the school gate. When Shen Hui was about to get out of the car, Lin Jingming stopped him but didn’t say anything.
Shen Hui felt a bit restless and was about to leave angrily, but then Lin Jingming spoke.
“Remember to study tonight,” Lin Jingming said.
Shen Hui: “…”
…
At eight o’clock that night, Shen Hui reluctantly opened the video call and then opened his thick textbook, studying under Lin Jingming’s remote supervision.
My favorite thing is studying. Shen Hui brainwashed himself.
On the other side, Lin Jingming was preparing lessons from the same book. Although they weren’t at the same school, their progress was perfectly synchronized.
“If you don’t understand, ask,” Lin Jingming said before focusing on his book.
Shen Hui tried not to look at Lin Jingming, but he couldn’t help but be distracted: Would Professor Lin, who was so cold, unreasonable, and difficult to deal with, actually give students key points? Wasn’t the whole book full of key points?
Click. Lin Jingming closed the book; today’s task was completed.
Shen Hui, who had just reached page ten: “…” feeling jealous.
He quickly focused on his studies, afraid that Lin Jingming would think he was incompetent. When he looked up again, he saw a… naked man in the video call?
He hurriedly turned his phone upside down, but the image he had just seen lingered in his mind.
Lin Jingming had just finished showering and came out wrapped loosely in a towel, his abs and the lines of his body particularly eye-catching, each muscle exuding absolute dominance.
Before Shen Hui turned his phone upside down, Lin Jingming glanced casually in his direction, but that one glance made Shen Hui’s heart race and steam rise.
Elegant when dressed, wild when undressed.
Shen Hui thought indignantly, this guy must be a rogue. Why wasn’t there a law stipulating that Lin Jingming had to wear clothes after showering?
