Shen Hui curled up in the back seat, fingers picking at the leather seat cushion, stubbornly saying, “You did hit me.”
Lin Jingming glanced at him and suddenly said, “Then I’ll have to find an opportunity to follow through.”
See, he really wants to hit me, Shen Hui thought, so Lin Jingming’s fear is justified.
Lin Jingming’s home was in the city center. When they arrived, Lin Jingming wanted to lift Shen Hui up in the same way, but Shen Hui refused.
“I’m not a three-year-old kid. I can walk by myself,” Shen Hui said.
Lin Jingming crouched in front of the car door. “Get up here.”
Seeing Shen Hui hesitate, Lin Jingming deliberately said, “What, you want me to wipe your feet again? That can be arranged…”
Before he finished, Shen Hui blushed and leaned against his back, easily lifted by Lin Jingming. As they moved, Shen Hui’s bare feet kept rubbing against Lin Jingming’s suit pants, the fabric smooth and barely there. Underneath the fabric, with every step Lin Jingming took, the muscles’ swell and curve changed. Shen Hui felt as if he were stepping directly on Lin Jingming’s chest, recalling the scene of Lin Jingming bathing in the video.
His thighs were wrapped in a towel… Shen Hui sighed.
What am I thinking! Shen Hui suddenly realized, his face turning red from his toes to his neck.
“Keys are in my right pocket,” Lin Jingming said. “Help me get them.”
Shen Hui casually reached into Lin Jingming’s pocket, and he heard Lin Jingming gasp, trembling as he grabbed the keys and fumbled with the lock.
Why are your pockets so thin, so close to your body!
Not his problem!
Lin Jingming put Shen Hui down at the entrance. “Put on your shoes,” he said, patting Shen Hui’s butt. “Good boy.”
Shen Hui almost jumped up. “What are you doing!”
Lin Jingming inserted his hand into his pocket, a mischievous smile playing on his lips. “Hitting you, as you wished.”
What hitting him! Clearly just touching!
Shen Hui felt dizzy, feeling like he might have a high fever. His face was hot enough to heat milk. “You can’t punish me without reason. Hasn’t Professor Lin ever read the code of conduct for university teachers?”
Lin Jingming closed the door and walked towards the guest room. “Who used their toes to rub against me for no reason just now?”
“If I didn’t know the code of conduct, you would’ve…” Lin Jingming swallowed the rest of his words, tapping the door frame with his slender fingers as if warning him. “This doesn’t apply to blind dates either.”
Shen Hui was on the verge of exploding on the spot. Did he really rub against him just now?
Did he intentionally rub against Lin Jingming’s thigh?
He did.
Lin Jingming took out a set of sheets from the cupboard and spread them out. “You’ll sleep here tonight. Put aside your studies for now and review tomorrow morning.”
“I didn’t bring any books,” Shen Hui said, staring at Lin Jingming’s virtuous figure. Who would come into Professor Lin’s house and study?
“I have some,” Lin Jingming said ruthlessly. “Be careful not to fail any exams, or I’ll hit you.”
Shen Hui looked around and didn’t see any traces of a second person living here. Remembering there was only one pair of slippers at the entrance, and the pair on his feet was new, he felt as if he were floating on cloud nine.
I might have fried my brain.
Shen Hui obediently lay on the bed and asked Lin Jingming, “What about you?”
“I’m going to the study to take care of some things.” Professor Lin was still very busy; otherwise, how could a university professor be so wealthy?
Old man Lin had a passion for teaching, sticking to the podium for a lifetime, while Lin’s mother was a shrewd businesswoman. They divorced when Lin Jingming was young due to differences in views, and then Lin’s mother went abroad to do business, remarried, and had children. Lin Jingming followed Professor Lin, and seeing his sharp mind, Lin’s mother didn’t mistreat him. Whatever Lin Jingming wanted to do, he had a large sum of startup capital.
Lin Jingming rubbed Shen Hui’s hair. “You’ll get paid when you work.”
“But didn’t you say not to let me crossdress?” Shen Hui asked.
“Not that I won’t let you, but I’m afraid you’ll neglect your studies.” When it came to studying, Lin Jingming inherited Professor Lin’s teachings. “The knowledge you acquire is lifelong, but crossdressing, it’s definitely not a long-term plan.”
Shen Hui’s positioning was also based on his appearance. Who knows, one day he might be replaced by the trend. You can’t stay young forever, but there will always be young people.
Lin Jingming emphasized, “You can have interests, but don’t take it as a serious job, unless you have long-term career plans.”
“Okay,” Shen Hui said. He didn’t have a crossdressing fetish; he just wanted to make money during his school days.
Lin Jingming felt that Shen Hui was more obedient than he was in high school and felt like giving him some money. “Come intern at the law firm with me during the summer vacation.”
Lin Jingming thought for a moment and added, “The salary won’t be less than what you make from streaming.”
Anyway, he was the boss; he could give out salaries however he wanted. If he felt like giving Shen Hui all the income from the law firm, that was fine too.
Shen Hui didn’t have the habit of recognizing beds, let alone this was Lin Jingming’s house. But he had slept a lot during the day today, and after sleeping for an hour at night, driven by curiosity, he got up and toured the living room and kitchen. Seeing the light coming from Lin Jingming’s study, he couldn’t resist the itch in his heart.
He found a box of milk in the refrigerator, heated it up, and pretended to carry it as he knocked on the door.
“Come in,” Lin Jingming said.
Lin Jingming’s voice was unexpectedly deep and sexy in the night. The milk in the porcelain cup shook slightly as it was placed on the table.
Shen Hui stood aside, observing Lin Jingming. Time had bestowed this handsome and elegant man with a more profound countenance and demeanor. Every movement and gesture exuded a mature and steady aura. Shen Hui glanced at the notebook on the table, and Lin Jingming’s handwriting was still as sharp as it was when he wrote down every mathematical formula on the draft paper in the small shack on the streets of their junior high school days.
Shen Hui wouldn’t admit that he couldn’t bear to throw away the draft papers from back then, which were locked in the small storage room of his old home. Inside, there were many miscellaneous items, all of which Shen Hui had carefully collected, marks of his growth. Of course, Shen Hui wouldn’t use such sentimental vocabulary; he just felt that if he didn’t preserve it himself, no one else would remember his past, and if he didn’t preserve it, it would be lost.
For him, Lin Jingming was undoubtedly a significant but short-lived part of his life.
“Sit wherever you like,” Lin Jingming said, taking a sip of milk. “Thank you.”
Shen Hui’s mind went blank for a moment. It was a case of making trouble for nothing, but fortunately, Lin Jingming was busy and didn’t have time to question him.
Lin Jingming had so many things to do, but he still supervised Shen Hui’s revision every day, and even drove to deliver medicine for him… Shen Hui couldn’t help but smile unknowingly. He sat quietly, not disturbing Lin Jingming, his gaze lingering on the books on the bookshelf.
The bookshelf was simple and didn’t fit the style of a wealthy person who spent money on luxury items. Some of the books were old and yellowed, showing their age, and had been with Lin Jingming for a long time.
Finally, Shen Hui fell asleep on the small bed in the study.
Lin Jingming put down his pen, gently gathered Shen Hui into his arms, and carried him into the master bedroom with an attached bathroom, then went to sleep in the guest room.
That night, Shen Hui slept soundly, completely without the discomfort of being sick. He had a long dream.
In the dream, there was also a tall bookshelf. Nineteen-year-old Shen Hui was pressed down by Lin Jingming at his home to do his homework. Shen Hui held a pen, looked at the repeated book titles on the bookshelf, and wrote down the four words “Financial Law Study” on the paper.
…
The summer vacation quickly arrived. Lin Jingming opened his email and carefully reviewed Shen Hui’s transcript. After confirming that he hadn’t failed any subjects, he decided to reward Shen Hui by taking him on a trip.
“Another reward?” Shen Hui was pleasantly surprised. If he had known he could score a few more points, would Lin Jingming have rewarded him with… praise?
“Aren’t you going to take me to intern at the law firm?” Shen Hui scratched his cheek. Did Lin Jingming regret it because his grades were so bad?
That law firm that only recruits elites and handles super expensive cases…
“People need to take a break. You haven’t applied for a visa yet, so let’s start with domestic travel this year. Where do you want to go?” Lin Jingming asked.
This year?
Shen Hui was stunned. Would they still have next year?
“Old man Lin said we should cultivate feelings with our blind dates,” Lin Jingming said.
Shen Hui blushed. “What if we develop feelings with our blind dates?”
“According to the normal progression, we should get married,” Lin Jingming raised an eyebrow.
“Oh.” Shen Hui didn’t dare to think deeply about Lin Jingming’s words. Anyway, he wasn’t a serious candidate.
Now he was going on a trip with Lin Jingming!
Shen Hui, like a child, excitedly tiptoed around, pointing randomly on the Chinese map in the study, touching wherever his hand landed.
“This area…” Shen Hui looked at the place his palm happened to cover and turned to ask Lin Jingming, “Do you prefer Nanjing or Suzhou?”
The Qinhuai River? The classical gardens of Suzhou?
“I prefer Shen Hui,” Lin Jingming said, fingers intertwined on his knee, looking calm and composed.
Shen Hui’s fingers stiffened. For the first time, he was annoyed by being homophonous with the “provincial capital.” He glared at Lin Jingming. “Nanjing, right?”
This person Lin Jingming was just too terrible!
