AFMD : Chapter 59

Shen Hui discovered a serious problem: Lin Jingming wouldn’t let him join him in the shower!

When they were in the hospital, Lin Jingming said the bathroom was small, and since he only injured his arm, he had no problem using just one hand. Shen Hui believed him and left after helping him take off his shirt.

Now that they were back home, the bathroom was so big, and the bathtub was large, so why wouldn’t Lin Jingming let him help?

Shen Hui first suspected for a second if he was being too presumptuous, but then immediately dismissed the thought. Lin Jingming was more composed than him even when wearing an apron.

“Don’t you cherish having me around?” Shen Hui suspiciously stared at Lin Jingming. “Then from now on, we’ll only go to bed and do nothing else.”

Lin Jingming was at a loss, unable to believe that concealing a foot injury would come at such a high cost. “I was afraid you’d get your clothes wet. There was no need. Afterwards, I should have been the one to help you shower. How could it be the other way around?”

Shen Hui, feeling embarrassed, tried to cover up, “But didn’t I have that waterproof apron? You said to make the most of what we have.”

Lin Jingming was momentarily speechless. Without paying attention, Shen Hui wormed his way in and started running the bathwater.

Seeing Lin Jingming sitting on the stool without moving, Shen Hui remarked, “It really is inconvenient for you to do it alone.”

So he quickly stripped off Lin Jingming’s clothes, carefully wrapped the wound in plastic wrap, and said, “Let’s hurry up, it’s not good to hold your breath for too long.”

Lin Jingming couldn’t hide it any longer. He took off his socks himself, realizing he couldn’t keep wearing them in front of Shen Hui forever; it was strange. Originally, he planned to casually tell Shen Hui once the bruise looked less severe or make up some other injury to fool him.

As expected, Shen Hui spotted his bruised foot at a glance, his eyebrows furrowing slightly, then immediately looking to Lin Jingming for confirmation.

Lin Jingming didn’t say anything, just handed him two pieces of paper.

Without needing him to speak, Shen Hui knelt down stiffly, trembling as he touched the skin around the bruise, tears falling freely. “I caused this, didn’t I?”

The bruise covered a large area on the top of his foot, the most severe part dark and oozing blood, now scabbed over. However, because Lin Jingming acted like nothing was wrong every day, even walking a long way in leather shoes on the day he was discharged from the hospital, the healing situation wasn’t good.

Lin Jingming wiped away his tears. “My Shen Hui did it to protect me. I know.”

He moved his toes freely. “See, it doesn’t hurt at all. It just looks ugly. If you don’t mind, then there’s nothing wrong.”

Shen Hui grabbed his hand and stopped him from moving. “How could I forget how heavy-handed I am? Why didn’t you tell me? How did you manage to shower these past few days, unable to stand or lie down?” Jingming, I’m heartbroken. Am I really that stupid?”

Lin Jingming pulled Shen Hui up and hugged him. “If it were me that day, it wouldn’t have been just bricks. But the cunning old Professor Lin didn’t tell anyone. I’ll teach you slowly in the future.”

“We both worry about each other. You don’t need to blame yourself. On the contrary, I’m happy. Isn’t this how the Shen Hui I first met was? My Shen Hui, although he’d race to the mountaintop with reckless abandon, the first time he got into a fight was for me. I’m really proud.”

Shen Hui wiped away his tears. “No more reckless driving. We’ll both be fine.” He crouched down, wrapped up Lin Jingming’s bruised foot, and then helped him into the bathtub, being extremely careful not to let the wound get wet.

Professor Lin’s bath was like torture, with Shen Hui’s sticky gaze and pursed lips igniting a fire, but he had to endure it when Shen Hui pressed him down into the water. Shen Hui had said that indulgence wouldn’t help the wound heal.

Over the next few days, Lin Jingming was forced to stay in bed and recuperate, while Shen Hui practically didn’t let him move a finger.

Lin Jingming raised an eyebrow. “Do you want to disable me? Are you planning to control me in the future?”

“No,” Shen Hui replied firmly.

“Then let me run on the treadmill for an hour?”

“No way.” Shen Hui shook his head decisively. If Lin Jingming had any objections, he would actually dare to report him to Lin’s father.

Lin Jingming never dreamed that there would be a day when the prickly Shen Hui would report him to the teacher.

So this is what it feels like for a good student to report someone!

Shen Hui was thoroughly satisfied.

Then Lin Jingming, under the pretext of exercising his abdominal muscles, got on top by himself.

Shen Hui protested, “No! You must follow the doctor’s orders and rest!”

“Please cooperate a little, Nurse Shen. I’ll only move my waist.”

Since then, Lin Jingming often brought Shen Hui back to stay, and during the Spring Festival, Lin’s father wrote a dozen couplets and asked Shen Hui to take them home to put up.

Front door, back door, outside windows, and display windows; after nearly twenty years, Shen Hui’s two-story house was filled with joy and a festive atmosphere.

Shen Hui, sweating profusely, stood on tiptoe and pasted a pair of bright red couplets on the two stone pillars at the gate. The old man’s calligraphy was vigorous and powerful, full and profound, and each word was a blessing to the younger generation.

He looked at his orderly, warm, and lively home, and his eyes suddenly became moist.

The old lady from next door, leaning on her cane, passed by, raised her glasses, and after a while, asked Shen Hui, “Are you getting married?”

Shen Hui awkwardly waved his hand. “No.”

“Then you’ve pasted the wrong couplets. These are for newlyweds. We usually put up ‘prosperity’ and ‘safety.’ “

Shen Hui hurried to see what he had just put up. The old man had instructed him to paste the large ones on the main door, and he hadn’t had a chance to look at the characters on top.

Left and right,

Two words.

“Mutual affection, shared understanding.”

Shen Hui’s face instantly turned red. Lin Jingming, who had held his hand at some point, smiled and asked, “Did you see clearly?”

“Mmm.”

“So, are Shen Hui and I going to start a family?”

“Yes, yes.”

After saying this, Shen Hui realized that Lin Jingming, this old man, was quite mischievous. He wanted to get married just from a pair of couplets.

What could he do? Of course, he chose to marry him.
