PAGBWMH : Chapter 50

Hiding Beauty in a Golden House

The winter dress Yi Wei had worn was now wrinkled and unsuitable for going out again. Gu Yueshan wanted to take him back, but Yi Wei, having finally gotten out and already been seen by so many people, didn’t mind being seen again. Plus, he wanted to meet Wu Qing.

Gu Yueshan had an entire new, warmer outfit prepared for Yi Wei, complete with thigh-high boots. Gu Yueshan inspected the boots himself, confirming that they were lined with thick fleece and decided Yi Wei wouldn’t be too cold wearing them.

Yi Wei was dressed in a thick turtleneck sweater underneath and a large cape that extended below his thighs, lined with fur along the collar, edges, and cuffs. He looked at himself in the mirror, thinking he definitely felt warmer, but he also looked good, albeit giving off a “he’s really afraid of the cold” vibe.

Gu Yueshan called Wei Nanfeng, suggesting they all gather at Qu Liujü for a meal before heading home.

Yi Wei also called Sun Qi. While waiting for Yi Wei, Sun Qi hadn’t been idle—he had indulged in a scented bath, a massage, and a men’s skincare treatment at the club.

Yi Wei could tell Sun Qi was enjoying himself and jokingly told him to finish up and head home afterward.

Sun Qi wasn’t ready to let his parents know about his relationship with Wei Nanfeng, so they hadn’t made it public yet. Also, Sun Qi and Yi Wei were friends, and if Sun Qi appeared alongside Yi Wei in women’s clothing, it might raise suspicion. So, Sun Qi didn’t tell Wei Nanfeng he had been at the club and went home directly.

Yi Wei linked arms with Gu Yueshan as they headed to Qu Liujü.

At Qu Liujü, water flowed both inside and outside the building, with a central display featuring a three-dimensional map of mountains and rivers. Water flowed through the display, and the seasons changed. The long table was arranged around the mountain and river map, different from typical round or long tables found in other dining places.

When the two entered, everyone already seated turned to look at them. Though they had already seen Yi Wei earlier, they were once again captivated by his beauty. And seeing that Yi Wei had changed outfits in just an hour, they could only imagine what had transpired(Like what they did in that room that needed to change clothes.).

Noticing the attention, Yi Wei pretended to be shy, slightly lowering his head and holding onto Gu Yueshan’s arm as they walked over and sat down.

Once seated, Gu Yueshan placed thick cushions behind Yi Wei for him to lean on, and the staff brought over a small bowl of bird’s nest soup. Gu Yueshan opened the lid, put a spoon in the bowl, and handed it to Yi Wei.

Wu Qing observed Gu Yueshan’s actions, initially thinking Gu Yueshan was naturally cold and aloof. But now he saw this gentle and attentive side of him. It’s true that what you can’t have is always the most attractive. Wu Qing had always been indifferent to those who fawned over him, but Gu Yueshan’s aloofness had piqued his interest. He also found Gu Yueshan inherently charming. Wu Qing couldn’t help but wonder what it would feel like to be treated so tenderly by him.

Yi Wei sat half-hidden behind Gu Yueshan, slowly sipping the bird’s nest soup. He noticed Wu Qing’s gaze and planned to slip away once Gu Yueshan and the others were deep in conversation, giving Wu Qing the opportunity to approach him.

Wei Nanfeng thought he might have figured something out but wasn’t entirely sure. He shifted closer to Gu Yueshan and nudged his arm, silently asking what was going on. Gu Yueshan glanced at him and signaled with his eyes for him not to interfere or ask questions.

If Wei Nanfeng weren’t dating Sun Qi, he wouldn’t have cared or intervened. But now that he was with Sun Qi, and Sun Qi was friends with Yi Wei, he felt uneasy. If Sun Qi found out that Gu Yueshan was getting close to another woman while Yi Wei was abroad, he would likely be upset with him, so Wei Nanfeng was nervous.

The male and female companions present served to keep the atmosphere lively. Despite the somewhat distanced seating, they quickly livened up the scene.

Once the food was served, Gu Yueshan chatted with Wei Nanfeng and the others while attentively serving Yi Wei. After a few bites, Yi Wei shook his head, signaling that he was full.

When their conversation was in full swing, and everyone except Wu Qing had stopped glancing at him, Yi Wei quietly got up and walked to the fish pond behind the seats.

Sitting on a sofa by the pond, Yi Wei picked up some fish food and began feeding the beautiful koi in the water. As expected, it didn’t take long for Wu Qing to join him, sitting down beside him.

“I personally selected every fish in this pond. Aren’t they beautiful?” Wu Qing asked with a smile.

Yi Wei paused for a moment, then nodded.

Sitting this close, Yi Wei could clearly see that Wu Qing was indeed a man, though a very good-looking one. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have been able to deceive the others. And his voice—it was genuinely feminine. Yi Wei was curious how he achieved that.

“I’m Wu Qing. What’s your name?” Wu Qing tilted his head and asked.

Yi Wei pulled out his phone and typed a random name to show him.

“Mi Wei?” Wu Qing read the name aloud. He didn’t understand why Yi Wei didn’t just say it, but he smiled and said, “That’s a lovely name.”

“Do you like Director Gu?” Wu Qing asked.

Yi Wei nodded.

“To be honest with you, I like him too,” Wu Qing admitted after a brief pause. “But for some reason, when I saw you, I felt an immediate connection, like we’ve known each other for a long time. Maybe it’s what people call ‘destiny at first sight.’”

Yi Wei could tell that Wu Qing wasn’t lying, which surprised him. He hadn’t expected Wu Qing to be so open about his feelings.

“I don’t really have any true friends. Though it’s our first meeting, it feels like seeing an old friend. I wish we could be friends. But… I really like Director Gu, so I suppose that makes it impossible for us to be friends, doesn’t it?” Wu Qing said, sounding genuinely conflicted. He truly wanted a friend to confide in, but he also truly liked Gu Yueshan. This was the first time he sincerely wanted to befriend someone, and the internal conflict was torturing him. It felt like fate was playing a cruel trick on him.

Sigh “do you know Yi Wei? He’s Director Gu’s assistant” Wu Qing suddenly asked.

Yi Wei’s hand trembled deliberately, then he nodded slowly.

Wu Qing continued, “Was it you who went back to Director Gu’s room with him after the birthday party?”

While feeding the fish, Yi Wei nodded again.

“So, you’ve met Yi Wei?” Wu Qing asked, surprised.

Yi Wei nodded once more, thinking to himself, I see him every day in the mirror, so yes, I’ve met him.

“I didn’t expect that. I thought Director Gu would never let the two of you meet,” Wu Qing said, intrigued. “What’s his attitude toward you?”

Yi Wei hesitated for a moment, then gently shook his head.

“Is he not good to you?” Wu Qing pressed on. “Does Director Gu favor him more than you?”

Yi Wei, cradling the bowl of fish food in his hands, lowered his head, remaining still.

Seeing his reaction, Wu Qing came to his own conclusion. He thought that Gu Yueshan must still be more partial to Yi Wei. Otherwise, why would he only bring Mi Wei around when Yi Wei was abroad? According to what Wu Qing had gathered, Gu Yueshan had never taken Mi Wei along before. Wu Qing was quite curious to meet Yi Wei in person and see what kind of person he was.

“I feel like we get along well. You should come here more often. It’s not a bad place. If you ever want to come, just let me know. I’ll show you around, alright?” Wu Qing smiled, looking genuinely excited about the idea of being friends.

Yi Wei couldn’t help but feel amused. I haven’t said a word, and you think we get along? Isn’t that a bit of a stretch?

“I heard that Yi Wei is some kind of genius with a high IQ, and he studies psychology. You seem so pure; you definitely wouldn’t stand a chance against him,” Wu Qing remarked.

Yi Wei thought, Well, thank you for the compliment.

Wu Qing lowered his voice and said, “I think Director Gu only favors him because he’s useful. He probably likes you more deep down. Otherwise, why would he send Yi Wei abroad just before the holidays and keep you by his side? When Yi Wei comes back, if he tries to cause you any trouble, come to me. I’ll help you. I may not be a genius, but I’ve seen a lot of things, and I’m sure I can offer some advice.”

After a brief silence, Yi Wei gave Wu Qing a polite nod before returning to Gu Yueshan’s side.

Wu Qing watched Yi Wei sit back down, feeling a bit lonely. He genuinely wanted a friend and felt a strong connection to Mi Wei. But how could they be friends when they liked the same person? The internal conflict was tearing him apart.

Back at the table, Yi Wei signaled to Gu Yueshan that he was tired and wanted to leave. Gu Yueshan immediately spoke to Wei Nanfeng, made his excuses to the group, and told everyone he had an urgent matter to attend to. He promised to host another gathering soon and then left with Yi Wei.

Wu Qing followed them to the door, watching them leave with a sigh before heading back to rest.

Once in the car, Yi Wei said, “I was worried Wu Qing might see through my disguise since he’s an expert at cross-dressing. But surprisingly, he didn’t realize I’m a man.”

“That’s because you’re far more beautiful than he is, so he couldn’t tell,” Gu Yueshan said, pulling Yi Wei into his arms.

“Thank you for the compliment, Mr. Gu,” Yi Wei laughed, then looked at him and said, “Mr. Gu, have you ever thought about hiding me away in a golden house? I’d like a golden house.”

“You’re not going back to the Mi family?” Gu Yueshan asked.

“Not exactly. But since even Wu Qing couldn’t tell I’m a man, I could go out occasionally for some fresh air. I’ll stay indoors closer to the due date. Anyway, no one can see my belly when I’m dressed like this,” Yi Wei explained.

“I’ll leave it up to you,” Gu Yueshan said. “But from now on, you’re not allowed to sneak out without telling me. Whatever you want to do, you have to tell me first.”

“Alright,” Yi Wei agreed immediately, resting his head on Gu Yueshan’s shoulder.

Since Yi Wei had asked to be hidden in a “golden house,” Gu Yueshan thought the perfect place for him would be the Linjiang Mansion, a luxurious estate not far from the city. Though it wasn’t as valuable as the Laihai Villa, Linjiang Mansion was larger and more extravagant.

Yi Wei decided to stay at Linjiang Mansion until after winter break, at which point he’d return to the Mi family to hide away for the final stretch of his pregnancy. This way, Gu Yueshan could spend more time with him before the baby arrived.

When Sun Qi found out that Yi Wei was staying at Linjiang Mansion, he snuck over to visit him.

“You’re really planning to live here? Aren’t you worried people will think Mr. Gu is hiding you away like a secret lover, making him look like a playboy?” Sun Qi asked.

“Let them think what they want, let them say what they will. There are already all kinds of rumors out there. I don’t care, and neither does Mr. Gu. That’s all that matters,” Yi Wei smiled and continued, “If you care about what everyone thinks, that’s called big data. As long as you care about the people who matter and those who can affect you, that’s enough. The opinions of people who don’t matter and can’t impact you are irrelevant.”

“That sounds logical, but very few people can actually live that way,” Sun Qi remarked.

“True. If it were easy, Qi Ran wouldn’t have tried to use the opinions of other students to come after me. He didn’t realize I don’t care about what others think,” Yi Wei said, reflecting on his past life where he had cared too much about the opinions of people who didn’t matter, which had led him down a dark path.

“You seem really happy,” Sun Qi noted, puzzled by Yi Wei’s cheerful demeanor.

Yi Wei smiled and said, “After the baby is born, I’m going to publicly announce my relationship with Director Gu, and we’ll hold a wedding. I’ll be both the one at home and the one ‘hidden away,’ loved from both sides. When I’ve had my fun, I’ll leak the truth and let everyone know it’s always been just me. I won’t confirm or deny anything, but the facts will speak for themselves. Can you imagine how the Gu family will feel when they find out?”

“Oh, I see what you’re doing now,” Sun Qi said, understanding immediately.

Yi Wei thought to himself, In this life, I’ll endure anything to protect my child. But aside from that, I’ll do whatever makes me happy. I don’t care about wealth or status, but if I can make certain people unhappy, that will make me very happy.
