A few days later, Yi Wei received a reply from Feromon. Instead of having one of his students guide Sun Yu, Feromon recommended him to another master pianist with whom he had a good relationship. This master had a style similar to Sun Yu’s, and after watching a video of Sun Yu’s performance, he agreed to take him on.
“Master… Master Albert?” Sun Yu looked at the recommendation letter in disbelief and asked, “Is this real? Am I dreaming?”
“Actually, it also has to do with the award you won abroad last time. The final piece you played in that competition was a piano composition by Albert. After hearing it, he was quite satisfied with your performance. Plus, with my teacher Feromon’s personal recommendation, he’s willing to personally guide you for a while,” Yi Wei explained.
“Thank you so much, Yi Wei!” Sun Yu was so overwhelmed that he didn’t know what to do. He hugged his brother tightly and exclaimed, “Brother, I’m not dreaming, am I?”
Sun Qi patted Sun Yu on the back and said, “You’re not dreaming. Alright, alright, I know you’re happy.”
“Come on, I’ll take you to the administration office to handle the paperwork,” Yi Wei said as he stood up.
Sun Qi and Sun Yu followed Yi Wei to the administration office.
“Once all the paperwork is done and everything is finalized, you can take the recommendation letter and go abroad. If Master Albert is pleased with you, he might even officially take you on as a student,” Yi Wei said to Sun Yu.
“Don’t worry, Yi Wei. I’ll work hard!” Sun Yu replied earnestly.
“You should definitely work hard when the time comes, but don’t forget to relax when you need to. If you keep yourself too tense all the time, you’ll end up snapping,” Yi Wei advised.
“I understand,” Sun Qi responded.
When they arrived at the school administration office, Yi Wei had the staff begin the paperwork while the three of them sat down for tea. All of Sun Yu’s expenses abroad would be covered by the school, and Master Albert’s teaching fees, which were quite high, would certainly be provided as well.
Hearing that Yi Wei had come to handle the paperwork for Sun Yu, Xu Peng came out of his office.
“Let me take a look,” Xu Peng said as he reached out to take the documents from the staff.
Sun Yu exchanged a nervous glance with Sun Qi, worried that this opportunity might be taken away from him again. Sun Qi reassured him with a look, signaling that this time the opportunity wouldn’t be stolen.
Yi Wei, unbothered by Xu Peng, leisurely sipped his tea while looking at his phone.
“Since all the documents are complete, I’ll handle the paperwork personally. Everything will be finalized by the end of today,” Xu Peng said, looking at Yi Wei. “You don’t have to wait here. Once it’s all done, I’ll have the documents sent over for Sun Yu to sign. He can confirm his departure date himself, and I’ll have someone book the plane ticket.”
Yi Wei stood up and said, “Thanks for your help, Deputy Director.”
“It’s part of my job, no trouble at all,” Xu Peng replied courteously, a stark contrast to his previous attitude.
Yi Wei smiled, then turned and left with Sun Qi and Sun Yu.
After leaving the administration office, Sun Qi remarked to Yi Wei, “The Deputy Director’s attitude is completely different from last time. What happened? Last time, he was so arrogant, acting all high and mighty because he’s Director Gu’s uncle, showing no respect to you at all. Today, he’s being so polite?”
“Maybe the Elder Madam had a word with him,” Yi Wei thought. In his previous life, he had always been accommodating to the elders of the Gu family, especially Gu Yueshan’s mother. They thought he was timid and easy to bully. Now that he no longer tolerated their behavior and responded with force, they had become cautious and polite toward him. Some people are just like that: the more you retreat, the more they push; when you stand firm, they tread lightly. Yi Wei had no respect for such people.
The news that Yi Wei had arranged for Sun Yu to be mentored by Master Albert spread quickly, and the students at the academy were soon gossiping about it.
“Sun Yu is so lucky! He wasn’t even on the academy’s recommendation list, but he still managed to get guidance from Master Albert. He’s on a completely different level than the student the academy recommended!”
“Yeah, I bet the students who were excited about being recommended are feeling pretty envious of Sun Yu right now.”
“Of course they’re envious! Even those who didn’t make the recommendation list are probably even more jealous.”
“I heard Yi Wei recommended him. Even the academy and the foundation don’t have connections like that. Yi Wei is amazing for being able to recommend Sun Yu to Master Albert!”
“Don’t forget, Yi Wei’s former piano teacher was Master Feromon. If he recommended Sun Yu to Albert through him, it’s not surprising.”
“True, but having those connections is still really impressive. Sun Yu’s so fortunate. If it weren’t for his brother’s good relationship with Yi Wei, he wouldn’t have had this opportunity.”
“Yeah, even students abroad who major in piano don’t get such opportunities.”
After a few days of preparation, Sun Yu went abroad.
Meanwhile, Yi Wei and Gu Yueshan’s wedding preparations were nearly complete. The entire Gu family estate was festively decorated, with fresh flowers and greenery being delivered in abundance. The academy itself had also been transformed, with halls, corridors, and resting areas all newly adorned. Long tables were set with high-end sweets, handcrafted pastries, and various fruits. The atmosphere was far more festive than even during the New Year.
After their classes, Yi Wei and Sun Qi walked out to the hall, where Sun Qi headed toward the long table. Yi Wei immediately pulled him back.
“Didn’t you say you absolutely wouldn’t eat anything? Why are you heading over there?”
“I’ll just have one piece of chocolate. Really, just a small piece. I’ll leave right after I eat it,” Sun Qi said, struggling.
“You’re the one who told me to stop you, to not let you get any fatter,” Yi Wei said firmly as he held him back.
“This is the last time, I swear!” Sun Qi broke free, quickly walked to the table, opened the glass cover, and popped a piece of chocolate into his mouth, a look of pure bliss on his face.
Yi Wei walked over and helplessly said, “Don’t complain to me later if you get fat again.”
Sun Qi grabbed a plate and piled several desserts onto it, sitting down at a nearby small round table to slowly enjoy them. As he ate, he said to Yi Wei, “It’s all Director Gu’s fault—or no, it’s the wedding planner’s fault. It’s not just me; all the students have gained weight these past few days. These chocolates and desserts… they’re not only super expensive, but they also make you fat. But they’re just so good! I can’t resist.”
“I tried to stop you! You can’t blame me if you gain a few more pounds because of this wedding,” Yi Wei replied, sitting down beside him.
“Once your wedding with Director Gu is over, I’ll start my diet,” Sun Qi said seriously.
Yi Wei sighed and waited for him to finish eating.
After finishing, Sun Qi grabbed a pastry with bird’s nest filling and, nibbling on it, walked outside with Yi Wei.
The roadsides were lined with beautifully arranged flowers and luxurious crystal arches wrapped in pale gold and lavender silk. The flowers were replaced daily, and the closer they got to the main residence, the more lavish and grand the decorations became.
As they entered the main estate, Sun Qi said, “Your wedding with Director Gu is really something.”
“Gu Yueshan says that since this will only happen once in a lifetime, the more extravagant it is, the more it shows how much he values me,” Yi Wei replied.
“That makes sense,” Sun Qi nodded in agreement.
Yi Wei went to the courtyard to see the baby. Upon arriving at Haitang Garden, he asked Sun Qi to help him pick out the clothes he would wear for the wedding.
All the outfits were custom-made, over twenty in total, but Yi Wei only planned to pick three.
“Men’s formalwear has too few options, especially for this kind of event. They all look the same,” Sun Qi said thoughtfully as he helped Yi Wei choose. “If it were women’s clothing, you’d have so many styles to choose from.”
Yi Wei smiled at the baby in his arms and said, “This is more than enough. It’s not like I can wear a wedding dress.”
“These three best suit your style,” Sun Qi said after making his selection. “Your clothes were easy to choose. Now I’ll pick a few cute outfits for the baby to wear at the wedding.”
Yi Wei looked down at the baby’s face and kissed his cheek. He and Gu Yueshan had been married for just over a year, and although he thought he’d feel calm about the upcoming wedding, the closer the date got, the more excited and nervous he became.
…
On the wedding day, the sun was shining brightly in the morning. Bouquets of beautiful balloons floated in the air over the Gu family estate, and colorful streamers danced in the breeze, making it seem as though countless flowers were blooming both in the sky and on the ground in celebration of the event.
Because the wedding would last from day until night, the Gu family had prepared rooms for guests to rest in. The family gathered in the main residence for breakfast, then waited to welcome the guests. Since today was the wedding of Gu Yueshan, the head of the Gu family, any mishaps or poor hospitality would be a huge embarrassment for the whole family. So, the entire household was on high alert.
At that moment, Yi Wei lay in Gu Yueshan’s arms, half-awake and drowsy. He had no idea why he had suddenly become so nervous last night, causing him to fall asleep very late.
“Should we get up?” Yi Wei mumbled, trying to open his eyes but failing. “There’s something important today… a class… No, that’s not it. What is it?”
“There’s no rush. You can sleep a bit longer,” Gu Yueshan said as he kissed Yi Wei’s forehead.
“Oh…” Yi Wei murmured, about to drift back to sleep when he suddenly jerked awake. Propping himself up, he looked at Gu Yueshan and said, “Aren’t we supposed to be getting married today?”
Gu Yueshan looked at Yi Wei for a moment and said, “Yes.”
“Are we… are we late?” Yi Wei flailed, trying to get up but ended up collapsing back into Gu Yueshan’s arms. He had never been late to any event in his life, and the thought of being late to his own wedding mortified him.
“Don’t worry,” Gu Yueshan said, gently patting Yi Wei’s back to comfort him. “We’re holding the wedding at home. How could we be late? It’s still early; the guests haven’t even arrived yet.”
“I forgot,” Yi Wei sighed in relief, burying his face in Gu Yueshan’s chest. “I’m so nervous.”
“Why are you nervous?” Gu Yueshan asked.
Yi Wei sighed and said, “I just feel like this is the most important moment of my life. It’s that sense of ceremony that’s making me nervous.”
“Today is one of the most important moments of our lives,” Gu Yueshan said, looking into Yi Wei’s eyes. “But there will be many more important moments in the future. Today, it’s the three of us—you, me, and the baby. One day, there will be four of us, five, maybe even six. And when they’re all grown up, it’ll just be the two of us again. Every day we spend together is an important moment in our lives.”
“Three more kids? Isn’t that a bit much?” Yi Wei asked seriously.
Gu Yueshan laughed and said, “That’s not the point. You decide how many we’ll have. The point is, every day we spend together is important, so there’s no need to be nervous about the wedding.”
“Okay.” Yi Wei wrapped his arms around Gu Yueshan’s neck and leaned in for a kiss.
