PAGBWMH : Chapter 60

From This Day Forward, A Happy Life

The Gu family mansion combines modern and classical architecture, and today’s wedding reflects that blend as well. The expansive courtyard showcases a modern style, while the interior leans more towards the classical. With bright sunlight pouring down, it was a perfect day for both outdoor conversations in the sun and indoor chats over tea.

Guests had begun arriving, and the entire Yi family showed up. As they walked into the mansion, they couldn’t help but notice the meticulous decorations everywhere, each display surpassing their expectations. The grandeur of the wedding reflected just how much Gu Yueshan valued Yi Wei, and their emotions grew increasingly complicated.

Jiang Shuqin was chatting with someone when she noticed the Yi family approaching, so she turned and walked over to them.

“You’re here,” Jiang Shuqin greeted.

“Are you feeling better?” Zhao Zhen asked, holding her hand.

“I’m much better,” Jiang Shuqin sighed. “Even if I weren’t, I had to be here for this event. If I didn’t show up, who knows what people would say behind my back.”

“It’s already happened. Just take it easy,” Zhao Zhen tried to comfort her.

Jiang Shuqin nodded, then turned to Yi Xuan. “Gu Heng is in the main hall. Go and find him.”

“Okay,” Yi Xuan replied, heading towards the main hall. But before he reached it, Gu Heng walked out. Yi Xuan stopped and waited for him.

When Gu Heng approached, he asked, “Have you had breakfast?”

“Yes,” Yi Xuan answered.

They stood in awkward silence for a while before Gu Heng finally said, “I’m sorry.”

“Why are you apologizing?” Yi Xuan asked.

“I always wanted to give you a wedding like this… but our wedding can’t be held here. It’ll likely be delayed as well,” Gu Heng said, full of guilt.

Bitterness rose in Yi Xuan’s heart, and he fought back the urge to cry. “It’s okay. If we can’t have our wedding here, we’ll have it somewhere else. Delaying it isn’t a problem—we’re still young, after all.”

“Thank you for understanding and being so considerate,” Gu Heng said, holding Yi Xuan’s hand, feeling even more guilty.

Yi Xuan forced a smile. “Just treat me well in the future, and that’s enough.”

“I’ll definitely treat you well,” Gu Heng promised sincerely.

Meanwhile, Yi Wei and Gu Yueshan had changed into their formal wedding attire, and their baby was also dressed up. Yi Wei placed the child in a stroller while Gu Yueshan pushed it, and Yi Wei held onto Gu Yueshan’s arm as they walked outside.

As they stepped out, guests gathered around, making space for them to walk through. Yi Wei smiled politely, leaving Gu Yueshan to chat with the guests while he pushed the stroller over to his adoptive mother’s side.

Yi Wei had arranged a separate, quieter space for the Mi family, both indoors and outdoors, so his adoptive mother could participate in the wedding without being overwhelmed by the crowd.

Sun Qi accompanied Yi Wei, helping push the stroller. Once they reached Mi Xue’s area, Sun Qi sat down beside the stroller, leaned over, and said to the baby, “You’re so beautiful today, little prince! Could you be a reincarnated fairy prince?”

“If he’s a prince, does that make me the big prince?” Yi Wei laughed.

“You’re messing up the titles again. If he’s the prince, you should be the queen,” Sun Qi corrected him.

“I don’t care, I want to be the prince too!” Yi Wei looked down at his white formal suit and said, “Look at me, don’t I look just like a prince?”

Mi Xue and Anna couldn’t help but laugh. Indeed, Yi Wei looked dashing in his white suit, like a handsome prince straight out of a fairy tale.

More guests arrived than had attended Gu Yao’s double-month celebration. Even the students from the academy were here, gathered around to admire the dowry Yi Wei brought and the bride price Gu Yueshan had given him.

In modern times, displaying the dowry and bride price is done differently from the old days. Everything from real estate to other assets is represented by scaled models, crafted with intricate detail and precision.

Yi Wei’s dowry included contributions from the Mi family, Mi Xue, and even some secretly added by Gu Yueshan under the guise of being from the Mi family, giving Yi Wei a grand presentation. But it was the bride price from Gu Yueshan that truly shocked everyone.

“The Gu family truly is a major powerhouse. The bride price is unbelievable—just five or six skyscrapers in prime locations across the country, all with attached commercial spaces.”

“Yeah, just the rental income from these buildings would be enough to live lavishly for generations. And there are luxury homes, villas, estates, private beaches, yachts… It’s unreal.”

“What’s the meaning behind that whole mountain?”

“It means the entire mountain, including the house on it and the lake below, all belong to him. Whatever’s on the model is part of the bride price. The models are made based on actual legal ownership.”

“Now I understand why in wealthy families, even siblings fight so fiercely. Who wouldn’t want a piece of all this?”

“These are just the bride price gifts. The Gu family’s wealth goes far beyond this. You can see why Gu Heng and his cousins were so eager to be adopted by Gu Yueshan. And why people supported them.”

“You’re thinking too simply. These things are just the golden eggs. The real prize is the Gu Corporation—the goose that lays the golden eggs. That’s what they’re really after, not just the eggs. My dad says it’s a pipe dream for anyone to take the corporation away from Gu Yueshan.”

“That makes sense. No wonder Gu Heng seems like he’s lost his spirit since Gu Yueshan announced he had a child. He’s not the same confident person he used to be.”

“Obviously. Before, he was certain he’d inherit the family, so he was full of confidence. Now, he doesn’t even know how much longer he’ll be able to stay in the Gu family, let alone inherit anything.”

“Hey, look, who are all these foreigners showing up?”

The students, who had been admiring the bride price, curiously looked over at the new arrivals.

Yi Wei personally went to greet his friends and teachers who had traveled from abroad to attend his wedding. He hadn’t expected so many people to come.

“Congratulations, Yves.”

“Happy wedding!”

“Best wishes, Yves.”

Yi Wei’s friends and teachers from abroad hugged him and offered their congratulations.

“Thank you all for coming,” Yi Wei said, feeling touched. These people were part of his happiest memories.

Yi Wei brought them over to his adoptive mother, Mi Xue, asking her, Mi family members, and Sun Qi to help entertain the guests. Since they had come all this way, Yi Wei asked the butler to prepare additional rooms, hoping they could stay for a few days to catch up on old times.

The wedding ceremony was about to begin. Yi Wei joined Gu Yueshan to get ready. Wei Nanfeng and Sun Qi served as the groomsmen. After Yi Wei and Gu Yueshan walked down the aisle, Wei Nanfeng and Sun Qi followed behind, pushing the stroller with their son, Gu Yao, who served as the little flower boy, though he had just turned 100 days old.

Bright flower petals fluttered down from the sky as Yi Wei and Gu Yueshan slowly walked toward the magnificent, sacred altar, all eyes on them.

Yi Xuan watched Yi Wei, arm in arm with Gu Yueshan, as they occasionally exchanged glances. The smile on Yi Wei’s face radiated happiness, and the love in Gu Yueshan’s eyes shone as they gazed at each other. It was a scene Yi Xuan had dreamed of many times. But now, the person beside Gu Yueshan was not him. Yi Xuan was so lost in thought that he didn’t even realize he was crying.

Gu Heng watched the scene unfold, still hoping it was all just a dream. Since the announcement of his uncle’s child, his emotions had been in turmoil. His grandmother had advised him to do nothing when his mind was in such a state and avoid making any decisions. But even if he wanted to make a decision, he had no idea what to do. His future seemed so unclear.

Yi Bo, on the other hand, looked at Sun Qi and Wei Nanfeng walking together and felt a deep sense of bitterness. Wei Nanfeng’s actions in sabotaging his gaming company had been a warning. For now, he didn’t dare make another move, but he would never give up on Sun Qi. A voice inside him told him that only by being with Sun Qi would he find happiness and fulfillment in this life.

As Yi Wei, Gu Yueshan, and their groomsmen reached the altar, Yi Bo discreetly pulled Yi Xuan aside. He knew about Yi Xuan’s feelings for Gu Yueshan since they used to share everything with each other. However, it was critical that Gu Heng never find out about this; it would surely cause conflict between the brothers.

To the accompaniment of live music from the orchestra, Yi Wei and Gu Yueshan exchanged vows and rings under the gaze of the guests. The two embraced and kissed as petals continued to fall from the sky, balloons lifted off into the air, and the Gu family mansion buzzed with joyful celebration.

After the ceremony, the couple mingled with the guests. Sun Qi, holding a glass of champagne, clinked glasses with Yi Wei and said with a smile, “Congratulations! The prince and the king have finally found their happy ending, with a little prince to boot. It’s the perfect fairy-tale ending!”

“Thank you,” Yi Wei replied with a smile, though he thought to himself that, while there were still some obstacles to their happiness, he was determined to ensure a happy and perfect ending in this life. He would do whatever it took.

In the afternoon, all the guests moved indoors. The mansion had been fully decorated for the wedding, with even the smallest rooms arranged beautifully. The Mi family and Yi Wei’s friends gathered in the largest room, chatting away. Yi Wei spent most of his time there with them, catching up.

After dinner, Gu Yueshan and Yi Wei returned to their own courtyard and changed into their final outfits of the day—modified traditional red wedding attire.

Once inside the main hall, Gu Yueshan led Yi Wei to serve tea and receive red envelopes from the elders.

“Mother, please have some tea,” Yi Wei said, holding a tray as he stood before Ye Feng.

“Alright,” Ye Feng smiled as she took the tea, drank it, and placed a red envelope on the tray.

Yi Wei turned to hand the tray to the attendant and took another tray with red date tea. He walked to Xu Hua and said, “Second Aunt, please have some tea.”

Xu Hua took the cup, drank it, and placed the red envelope on the tray. Yi Wei was of an age where he could have been her grandson, and he had indeed almost become her grandson-in-law, but now, here he was as her daughter-in-law, calling her “Second Aunt.” Though she felt uncomfortable, she hid her feelings well.

Yi Wei then took another tray and approached Gu Yueshan’s uncles.

After serving tea to all the elders, Yi Wei moved on to those of the same generation.

“Sister-in-law, please have some tea,” Yi Wei said, smiling at Jiang Shuqin as he handed her the tray.

Hearing Yi Wei call her “sister-in-law” hit Jiang Shuqin like a punch to the chest. For years, Yi Wei had called her “Aunt Qin,” and now, he had become her equal in rank, the rightful elder of her son. Even though she found it difficult to accept, it was a fact.

Watching Jiang Shuqin drink the red date tea as though it were poison, Yi Wei couldn’t help but find it amusing.

After Yi Wei finished serving tea to everyone, the wedding banquet drew to a close. Guests began to leave, while those from further away stayed overnight at the Gu mansion. After ensuring that all his friends were settled in, Yi Wei and Gu Yueshan returned to their courtyard.

Tonight was their wedding night.
