Yi Wei threw a small tantrum at Gu Yueshan, even having a “fight” with him in bed. Yi Wei felt like a fierce lion during their scuffle, but to Gu Yueshan, Yi Wei was more like a playful kitten with no real strength.
Though Yi Wei “won” the fight, he still hadn’t completely calmed down. Holding their child, he pretended to cry, saying, “Baby, your real dad and your… stepdad don’t care about me. I can’t rely on them anymore. From now on, it’ll just be the two of us.”
“What kind of talk is that?” Gu Yueshan said as he brought over a bowl of bird’s nest porridge and fed Yi Wei. “How am I the stepdad now?”
Yi Wei had intended to refuse the food, determined to hold his ground, but his hunger won out, and he began eating. As he ate, he grumbled, “You’re not the stepdad to the baby, but you’re definitely the stepdad to me. No, wait—you’re the ‘jealous dad.’ You’re jealous at night, jealous in the daytime—might as well just make me sour to death.”
“Then I’ll be your real dad too. Just tell me what I need to do to make you stop being mad,” Gu Yueshan asked gently.
“Who wants you to be their dad? I don’t need fatherly love—don’t try to take advantage of me!” Yi Wei huffed, kicking at him in annoyance.
Gu Yueshan caught Yi Wei’s foot, placed the empty bowl on the bedside table, and then lay down, pulling both Yi Wei and their baby into his arms. “You won the fight, and we’re on our honeymoon. Let’s stop being angry, okay?”
Yi Wei buried his face in the baby, ignoring him.
It took Gu Yueshan two days of coaxing to finally calm Yi Wei down, and then they spent a few more days sweetly enjoying the rest of their honeymoon.
Once back at the Gu family estate, Yi Wei caught up on all the events that had occurred while they were away.
Regarding the broken engagement between Gu Heng and Yi Xuan, the decision was primarily driven by Xu Hua and Yi Xuan himself, even though most others had initially opposed it. To push through the breakup, Xu Hua had made certain promises to the Yi family and extracted commitments from both Gu Heng and Yi Xuan. If they met her expectations, she would allow them to marry, but if they failed, they would never marry.
“Yi Xuan is leaving the country for further studies. Everything’s been arranged, and the person handling all the details is Qi Ran,” Deng Song reported while holding a tablet, reading out the gathered information to Yi Wei.
Yi Wei paced slowly with the baby in his arms, thinking for a moment before asking, “What’s Yi Bo’s attitude towards all of this?”
“He seems somewhat displeased, but hasn’t openly objected,” Deng Song replied.
“Yi Bo has always been indulgent towards Yi Xuan, never expressing displeasure. Now that Yi Xuan is involved with Qi Ran, the fact that it annoys Yi Bo is significant. After all, dissatisfaction, once it starts to build, will eventually explode,” Yi Wei said with a small smile. Then he asked, “When is Yi Xuan leaving?”
“His flight is tomorrow at noon,” Deng Song answered.
Yi Wei nodded. “Anything else?”
“There’s been some covert investigation from the second elder madam into the woman living in the villa by the river. It’s been going on for quite a while, but they’ve kept it well hidden, so we’re only hearing about it now.”
Yi Wei let out a cold laugh. “So, they’ve started scheming, huh? Looks like the bait has been taken.”
Deng Song looked puzzled, but Yi Wei waved him off. “No worries, continue.”
“That’s all for now,” Deng Song replied.
“You can get back to work then.”
“Yes, sir.”
Yi Wei thought to himself that it would be interesting to see what Yi Xuan’s studies abroad would yield, especially since he and Qi Ran were getting involved with each other. Would Yi Bo eventually forgive Qi Ran because of Yi Xuan’s mediation, or would Yi Xuan’s interference drive an even bigger wedge between them? Either way, Yi Wei would be watching closely.
As for the investigation into the woman in the riverside villa, Yi Wei figured it was time to create a fake identity for his cross-dressing persona. The goal was to deceive anyone sent by the elder madam. Wei Nanfeng was the perfect person to handle this. Yi Wei asked Sun Qi to approach Wei Nanfeng for help. He deliberately chose not to have Gu Yueshan handle this task because he wanted to give Sun Qi and Wei Nanfeng more opportunities to interact.
In the Yi family living room, the household staff brought down Yi Xuan’s luggage. “Young Master Yi Xuan, everything is packed. It’s time to head to the airport.”
Yi Xuan glanced toward the door, feeling a pang of disappointment. His parents and Yi Bo had all gone to work and hadn’t stayed home to see him off. Despite promises from Gu Heng’s grandmother that the Yi family would still receive support where possible, his parents were still angry that he had so easily agreed to break off the engagement. Now that he was leaving for a year, they hadn’t even come to say goodbye.
Just as Yi Xuan stood to leave, Yi Bo walked in.
“Brother,” Yi Xuan called out.
“I’m here to take you to the airport,” Yi Bo said, having come straight from the office.
Yi Xuan nodded, feeling a bit better and deeply touched by the gesture.
As they drove, Yi Bo spoke, “Don’t blame Mom and Dad for being angry. The company’s already facing enough trouble, and then you went and broke off the engagement with Gu Heng on your own. That could have serious consequences for the company since our connection to the Gu family was something other companies considered as well. And you know how Yi Wei feels about our family… Mom and Dad think that because of you, Yi Wei cut ties with us. Now you…”
“I understand how Mom and Dad feel,” Yi Xuan said. “But please tell them that Gu Heng truly loves me. If the company runs into any problems, he’ll help.”
Yi Bo sighed. “Even if Gu Heng wants to help, he doesn’t have the authority right now.”
Yi Xuan hesitated for a moment, then changed the subject. “Brother, if you have time, could you come visit me after a while?”
“I doubt I’ll have the time. The company’s too busy. We’ll talk over the phone or through video calls. You should come back when you can. After some time, when Mom and Dad have calmed down, make sure to give them a call,” Yi Bo said.
“Brother… is it because you don’t want to see Qi Ran?” Yi Xuan asked, turning to look at him. “I know about you and Qi Ran now. He was wrong to deceive you, but everyone makes mistakes. He truly loves you, so why can’t you give him another chance?”
“Tell him that I no longer have any feelings for him. Whatever he does, it won’t matter,” Yi Bo said coldly.
“But, brother, I’m about to rely on Qi Ran to help me with everything. Can’t you consider that?”
“You can tell him or not. But if you mention him again, don’t expect me to answer your calls.”
“Brother, you…”
“Stop the car,” Yi Bo ordered the driver.
Once the car was pulled over, Yi Bo repeated, “You can call me after you leave, but if you mention Qi Ran even once, I won’t answer.”
“Brother, brother!” Yi Xuan called after him, feeling his heart sink again.
Gu Heng was already at the airport waiting for Yi Xuan, so Yi Bo left halfway, leaving Gu Heng to see him off.
As Yi Xuan boarded the plane, staring out the window, tears silently fell. He had agreed to break off the engagement because he felt the decision to get engaged had been made too hastily. He wanted time to reflect and understand his true feelings. He also knew Gu Heng’s grandmother didn’t see him as being as good as Yi Wei. His pride had reached its limit, and he was determined to prove everyone wrong—that he wasn’t inferior to Yi Wei. So he decided to set aside all emotions for now and focus on his studies. Only after achieving something would he think about anything else. He hadn’t expected his family’s reaction to be so harsh, but success was his only concern now.
While Yi Xuan was leaving to study abroad, Yi Wei remained under Mi Xue’s personal guidance, making it unnecessary for him to seek opportunities elsewhere. Yi Wei could guess that Yi Xuan had left with great determination, but it didn’t affect him in the slightest. He continued with his own studies, following his planned path.
Regarding Xu Hua’s investigation into the woman at the riverside villa, Yi Wei was planning to fabricate a fake identity for his cross-dressing self. The goal was to fool anyone Xu Hua sent to investigate, and Wei Nanfeng was the perfect person to handle this. Instead of asking Gu Yueshan for help, Yi Wei had Sun Qi go to Wei Nanfeng, creating opportunities for them to spend time together.
When Sun Qi arrived at Wei Nanfeng’s office, Wei Nanfeng greeted him with a smirk, “Well, look who it is. I wasn’t expecting a visit from you. Haven’t you been avoiding me lately? And now here you are.”
“I haven’t been avoiding you! Don’t accuse me of that,” Sun Qi replied, standing by the floor-to-ceiling window and looking down at the tiny cars below. He turned and glanced around Wei Nanfeng’s office, surprised by how grand yet serious the space was.
“So, what brings you here today?” Wei Nanfeng asked, pouring Sun Qi a glass of water and handing it to him.
Sun Qi took the glass, sat down on the sofa, and said, “I need your help with something.”
“So, you only come to see me when you need something,” Wei Nanfeng teased, sitting beside Sun Qi and watching him closely. “What can I do for you?”
Sun Qi explained the favor Yi Wei had asked him to request. Afterward, he clasped Wei Nanfeng’s hand and said, “Please, Mr. Wei, I’m counting on you.”
Wei Nanfeng pulled Sun Qi into his arms, kissed his hand, and replied, “Let’s first discuss why you’ve been avoiding me lately. Then we’ll talk about this favor of yours, alright?”
“I already told you, I haven’t been avoiding you. I’ve just been busy with school. Look, I’m here now, aren’t I?” Sun Qi protested, thinking that this was the worst time to admit the truth.
After observing Sun Qi for a while, Wei Nanfeng stood up and began leading him toward the lounge.
“Where are you taking me?” Sun Qi resisted, pulling back with all his might. “Whatever you want to talk about, we can discuss it here!”
“The lounge is a more suitable place to talk,” Wei Nanfeng said, holding onto Sun Qi’s waist and half-dragging him towards the room.
“We can talk just fine here. There’s no need to go anywhere else,” Sun Qi argued, grabbing onto the doorframe.
But when Wei Nanfeng pinched his waist, Sun Qi immediately lost his strength, allowing himself to be carried into the lounge as the door clicked shut.
…
Later, lying in Wei Nanfeng’s arms and waiting for his breathing and heart rate to return to normal, Sun Qi muttered, “Make sure to take care of Yi Wei’s issue quickly. Don’t delay.”
“That’s a minor task,” Wei Nanfeng said, holding Sun Qi close. “We should be talking about why you’ve been avoiding me lately. Did your parents find out about us and disapprove? Is that why you’ve been staying away?”
“I’ve told you, I’m not avoiding you. My mom has just been getting suspicious, asking if I’m dating anyone, so I figured it’s better for us to meet less often for now. It’s no wonder she’s suspicious with how much we’ve been seeing each other,” Sun Qi explained.
“In a few days, I’m going to meet your parents. We don’t need to hide this anymore.”
“Please, don’t. We agreed to wait until after I graduate before going public. I’m still in school. What if my mom gets mad and kicks me out?”
“If she kicks you out, I’ll take care of you,” Wei Nanfeng promised.
“I don’t want you to take care of me,” Sun Qi countered. “And I don’t care. We’re not making anything public until after I graduate. If you try to rush it, I’ll really stop seeing you.”
Wei Nanfeng looked at Sun Qi and sighed helplessly.
