Wei Nanfeng had helped Yi Wei get everything sorted. Yi Wei looked at the documents Sun Qi handed him and said, “Thank Mr. Wei for me.”
Sun Qi nodded. Yi Wei then asked, “You went to Mr. Wei to ask for help with this, right? I’m sure he got something in return. How should I thank you?”
Sun Qi’s face turned red as he lowered his head and said, “Why are you being so polite with me?”
“I should thank you, but shouldn’t Mr. Wei also thank me? Does that cancel out?” Yi Wei teased, looking at Sun Qi.
“You’re right, whatever you say. Let’s not talk about this,” Sun Qi hurriedly changed the subject. “What’s your next plan? Do you have any idea what that old lady is planning?”
“It’s not hard to guess what she wants. Now that Mr. Gu has his own child, there’s no way the company shares will go to Gu Heng. Since I already have one child with Mr. Gu, there’ll be a second and a third. The more children I have, the more secure my position in the Gu family will be. Right now, with Mr. Gu supporting me, no one in the Gu family can touch me. So, what else can they do?” Yi Wei asked.
Sun Qi thought seriously for a moment before answering, “It seems like they can’t do much. Whatever they try, Mr. Gu will stop them.”
“But do you think they’ll just sit back and do nothing? Won’t they feel resentful?”
“Knowing them, they won’t be satisfied just sitting still,” Sun Qi replied confidently.
“They’ve spent a lot of effort trying to get Gu Heng to be adopted by Mr. Gu so that he could inherit the Gu family’s assets. Then, out of nowhere, I brought a child into the Gu family and shattered their dreams overnight. It’s not hard to imagine how much they resent me,” Yi Wei said. “Because of that intense resentment, they won’t let go of any opportunity they can use. Right now, the only leverage they have is the version of me in women’s clothing, the one staying at the Linjiang mansion.”
Sun Qi was listening, only half understanding what Yi Wei was getting at.
Meanwhile, at the Yi family’s West Residence, information about Yi Wei’s alter ego—the one in women’s clothing—had already made its way to Xu Hua.
After reviewing the documents carefully, Xu Hua put them down on the table beside her and said, “No wonder Yueshan has been hiding her so tightly. She’s quite beautiful. In the past, such beauty would have been considered a curse. But her family background is too poor, and on top of that, she’s mute.”
“The old master said that with such a poor background and being mute, it’s unlikely she’ll be able to challenge Yi Wei. After all, these two factors alone eliminate her chances of becoming the mistress of the Gu family,” Assistant Qian explained.
“A poor background makes her easier to control. She has no parents and can’t speak… That actually makes things better,” Xu Hua said.
“Better? How so?” Assistant Qian asked, puzzled.
Xu Hua didn’t answer right away but instead said, “Go back for now. Once I’ve come up with a plan, I’ll get in touch with your old master.”
“Alright.” Assistant Qian turned and left to report back to the Jiang family.
Gu Heng approached Xu Hua and picked up the documents, intending to take a look. But as soon as he saw the photos, he froze, his heartbeat quickening. For the first time in his life, he felt moved by someone just from looking at a few photos.
After composing himself, Gu Heng said to Xu Hua, “Grandma, why don’t you let me handle this?”
“You?” Xu Hua looked at Gu Heng, then glanced at the photos. “You’re not falling for this woman, are you? She’s your uncle’s woman, don’t cause me trouble.”
“My heart belongs to Yi Xuan. I could never fall for anyone else,” Gu Heng replied. “But I think you’re right, Grandma. I’m not mature enough yet and still lack experience. In order to marry Yi Xuan, I’ve resolved to grow and mature as quickly as possible. I see this as a great opportunity for growth.”
After a moment of serious consideration, Xu Hua stood up and said, “Your fourth uncle was already managing three companies when he was your age. Despite the many people both inside and outside the Gu family who tried to destroy him, none succeeded. Compared to him at that age, you’re far behind. You really do need to go through some challenges to sharpen yourself. This woman will be your test. If you can’t keep your heart steady because of her, then I’ll be completely disappointed in you.”
“Don’t worry, Grandma,” Gu Heng replied earnestly. “This time, I won’t let you down. I’ll make full use of her.”
………….
After hearing Yi Wei’s analysis, Sun Qi angrily slammed the table. “If they really have such ideas, you can’t let them off the hook! They want to make you divorce Mr. Gu so they can place a more controllable woman in the role of the Gu family’s mistress. These people are downright vile! They have no bottom line when it comes to their pursuit of power!”
“Don’t get so worked up. It’s not worth getting angry over them,” Yi Wei said calmly as he looked at the photos in his hand with a smile. “These pictures came out pretty well. Now we just wait to see how they plan to move forward. You can watch and see how I toy with them. It’ll be fun.”
“I can’t wait to see them get what they deserve,” Sun Qi replied, still fuming.
“Gu Heng is Mr. Gu’s only nephew, and since he lost his father at a young age, if they hadn’t tried to sabotage themselves, Mr. Gu would have certainly treated them well,” Yi Wei said coldly. “But they were too greedy. They didn’t have the ability but had enormous ambition. Everything that happens to them will be their own doing.”
Over the next two months, Yi Wei would frequently take his child to stay with the Mi family for a few days. Every time Yi Wei went to the Mi family, Gu Yueshan would visit the Linjiang mansion. After handing the child over to Mi Xue for care, Yi Wei would secretly go to the mansion, dressed in women’s clothes, and meet Gu Yueshan.
On the fourth time he was contacted by Xu Hua’s people, Yi Wei finally responded and set a time and place for a meeting.
At the arranged time, Yi Wei entered the agreed-upon restaurant dressed in women’s clothing, wearing a mask, glasses, and a hat.
After entering the private room, Yi Wei removed his mask, sat by a row of plants, and waited for about ten minutes before Gu Heng arrived. Gu Heng sat on the opposite side of the plants.
Through the gap in the plants, Gu Heng slid a tablet toward Yi Wei. On the screen, it read: “Do you want to go to the Gu family?”
Yi Wei thought to himself how straightforward this was. He typed back: “Given my identity, I can’t go to the Gu family. Things are fine as they are now.”
Gu Heng typed: “If you were truly content, you wouldn’t have come today. No one can be happy living in the shadows.”
Yi Wei typed back: “Mr. Gu treats me well. In the Linjiang mansion, I have everything I need.”
Gu Heng responded: “Everything but freedom, right?”
Yi Wei didn’t reply and pushed the tablet back to Gu Heng.
Gu Heng typed: “We have a way to bring you into the Gu family. Would you like to become the mistress of the Gu family?”
Yi Wei pretended to be startled, accidentally dropping the tablet onto the table.
Gu Heng calmly picked it up and typed: “If you’re willing to cooperate with us, we can make it so you can marry Mr. Gu. Then you can have your own children, and they can have a legitimate status. You, too, will have a rightful place standing beside Mr. Gu.”
Yi Wei replied: “But if Mr. Gu doesn’t want that, what can you do? If he gets angry, neither of us will have a good outcome.”
Gu Heng answered: “Think it over. Once you decide to cooperate, I’ll tell you how we can make it happen. Every opportunity comes with risks, but think about what you’ll gain if we succeed. It’s worth the risk.”
Yi Wei pretended to think it over.
Through the plants, Gu Heng could only catch glimpses of Yi Wei’s face, but even those glimpses captivated him. He couldn’t take his eyes off the beauty before him.
Gu Heng thought to himself how such a beautiful person couldn’t speak. Perhaps the most beautiful things are often flawed in some way.
Yi Wei left his contact information, then put on his mask and hurried out.
Gu Heng memorized the contact information and deleted everything they had typed. He then walked over to where Yi Wei had been sitting and stared at the cup he had drunk from, feeling a strange emotion rise in his heart. He thought to himself that his fourth uncle was not only capable but really knew how to enjoy life. Marrying Yi Wei, having children with him, and yet still keeping such a stunning woman outside. When he got tired of one, he could switch to the other—what a life.
As Gu Heng’s thoughts ran wild, a fleeting idea of revenge crossed his mind. Yi Wei had originally been engaged to him, but now he was married to his fourth uncle. If he could do something with this woman, it would be a way of getting back at his uncle. This idea only lasted a few seconds before he pushed it down, knowing he didn’t have the guts. If his fourth uncle ever found out, the consequences would be unimaginable. He kept reminding himself that he only loved Yi Xuan and would love him for the rest of his life.
At the Linjiang mansion, Yi Wei was watering the flowers with a small kettle, waiting for Gu Yueshan. He thought about how cautious Gu Heng had been during their meeting, typing instead of speaking and using plants to create a barrier between them, clearly afraid of being recorded.
“Back already?” Yi Wei asked as he saw Gu Yueshan enter. He set down the kettle and walked over.
“Did you go out today?” Gu Yueshan asked, noting Yi Wei’s attire.
“Yeah, I went out. I met with Gu Heng.” Yi Wei stepped back and asked, “How do I look?”
“You look great,” Gu Yueshan replied, looking at him. “You always look great.”
Yi Wei wrapped his arms around Gu Yueshan’s waist and looked up at him. “Gu Heng said they have a way to get me married to you, so I can go to the Gu family and stand by your side openly. I’m considering it. What do you think? Should I agree?”
“As long as it makes you happy, whatever you decide is fine,” Gu Yueshan answered.
“Who do you like more, me or Yi Wei?” Yi Wei asked teasingly. He wanted Gu Yueshan to experience the confusion of trying to explain something that was impossible to clarify, just like he had often felt.
“I like both,” Gu Yueshan said.
“You have to choose one. Me or him?”
“I want both.”
“You…” Yi Wei thought for a moment and continued, “Be honest, do you like me more in men’s clothes or like this?”
Yi Wei was ready to make a fuss no matter what Gu Yueshan chose.
“I love you when you’re dressed and when you’re not dressed. My love for you doesn’t change depending on what you’re wearing,” Gu Yueshan replied.
Seeing that this approach wasn’t working, Yi Wei felt frustrated but didn’t know what else to do. So, he stood on his tiptoes, grabbed Gu Yueshan’s face, and bit him on the chin.
Gu Yueshan didn’t move as Yi Wei bit him. Yi Wei didn’t control his strength, and when he tasted blood, he realized he had bitten too hard.
Seeing the blood on Gu Yueshan’s chin, Yi Wei froze for a moment before feeling guilty and distressed. “I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to.”
“It’s okay,” Gu Yueshan said, patting his back comfortingly.
Yi Wei felt terrible and gently blew on the wound to soothe it.
