PAGBWMH : Chapter 82

Exposed

Yi Wei discussed with Gu Yueshan about him accepting Mi Xue’s treatment. Gu Yueshan, not wanting Yi Wei to worry, also understood the risk of the situation—hiding his condition could eventually lead to exposure. It was indeed dangerous not to treat it promptly, so he agreed to the treatment.

Yi Wei had a detailed conversation with Mi Xue. After learning about Gu Yueshan’s situation, Mi Xue suggested that Yi Wei should be the one to personally treat Gu Yueshan. She explained that only Yi Wei could make Gu Yueshan feel completely at ease and lower his guard. Mi Xue agreed to assist and guide Yi Wei throughout the process.

Mi Xue was still researching the specific treatment plan, so the actual treatment would take some time before it could start.

Yi Wei stayed by Gu Yueshan’s side for two days, ensuring he rested properly. Only after confirming that his mental state had recovered did Yi Wei allow him to return to work.

Meanwhile, Yi Wei had already responded to Yi Bo, agreeing to cooperate. He was curious about Yi Bo’s next moves and wanted to see what Yi Bo had planned, particularly interested in learning what leverage Yi Bo had against the Jiang or Xu families. Through their cooperation, Yi Wei hoped to uncover more information.

Since Yi Wei agreed to cooperate, he decided to show some goodwill by giving Wu Xuan a warning. This was meant to signal that, while he might not prioritize the Yi family as much as the Mi family, he wouldn’t allow others to bully them either. Of course, this was just a temporary measure. Once he achieved his goals, things would go back to how they were.

Yi Bo and Wu Xuan had once been close friends, something their parents knew well. However, their parents were unaware of the recent fallout between them or the reasons behind it.

Yi Bo informed his parents that, thanks to Wu Xuan’s persuasion, the Wu family was willing to collaborate more with the Yi family. Yi Hong and Zhao Zhen, although aware that Wu Xuan’s father had little influence in the Wu Group, felt that in their current situation, they weren’t in a position to be picky. The fact that someone was willing to help them showed goodwill, and they felt it was necessary to express their gratitude.

Yi Bo proposed that the families meet for dinner, and Yi Hong and Zhao Zhen readily agreed, asking him to make arrangements quickly.

After Yi Bo went upstairs, his expression changed immediately. He contacted Qi Ran, asking him to inform Wu Xuan about the dinner plan. Qi Ran agreed and asked if he could attend as well. Yi Bo said yes, and Qi Ran was thrilled, promptly contacting Wu Xuan.

On the day of the dinner, both families gathered in a private room at the hotel. Yi Xuan and Qi Ran were also present.

After a round of pleasantries, they sat down to chat while waiting for the food to arrive.

“I apologize for being an outsider at this family gathering,” Qi Ran said with an embarrassed smile.

“I invited Brother Qi Ran,” Yi Xuan explained to his parents. “There was a small misunderstanding between my brother and Brother Wu Xuan before, but thanks to Brother Qi Ran, they made up. You don’t mind, right?”

With Yi Xuan putting it that way, there was no way Yi Hong and Zhao Zhen could object. They naturally replied that they didn’t mind.

The families continued chatting, but Yi Hong and Zhao Zhen soon noticed that, while Wu Xuan’s parents seemed disinterested, both Yi Bo and Wu Xuan remained unusually silent. It was Qi Ran, the outsider, who kept trying to lighten the mood. This raised suspicions for Yi Hong and Zhao Zhen.

The truth was that Wu Xuan’s parents weren’t keen on working with the Yi family. It was only at Wu Xuan’s persistent urging that they agreed. As for Wu Xuan himself, he wasn’t eager to help the Yi family either; he only agreed because Qi Ran kept pleading with him.

Just as the atmosphere grew increasingly awkward, Yi Wei walked in with his entourage.

“Apologies, I’m late,” Yi Wei said with a smile as he approached.

Everyone, except Yi Bo, froze in surprise. They had no idea why Yi Wei would be there.

“Yi Wei?” Zhao Zhen asked in confusion. “What are you doing here?”

“I have something I’d like to show Mr. and Mrs. Wu,” Yi Wei said as he sat down. He gestured behind him, and his assistant placed a folder in front of Wu Dakai.

Wu Dakai, puzzled, glanced at Yi Wei before opening the folder.

“Recently, I discovered that Yongchuan Corporation has been doing everything it can to suppress and undermine the Yi family’s business,” Yi Wei began. “So I had a chat with their president, Qin. He told me that all of this was instigated by Wu Xuan, who promised to exchange important information about the Wu Group for his cooperation.”

“Are you out of your mind?!” Wu Xuan shouted, slamming his hand on the table as he stood up. “Get out of here with your nonsense!”

Wu Dakai suddenly stood up and slapped Wu Xuan hard across the face. “Shut up! Do you realize who you’re talking to?!”

“Xuan’er!” Luo Xia instinctively rushed to check on Wu Xuan, who nearly fell to the floor from the force of the slap.

“What do you want, Yi Wei?” Qi Ran asked, his face darkening.

“Was this all your doing?” Yi Bo acted as if he was taken aback, glaring at Qi Ran. “This was your scheme, wasn’t it? I had my suspicions, but I didn’t want to believe it. But now, it’s clear it was all your plan!”

“No, that’s not how it is!” Qi Ran quickly tried to explain. “Please, believe me. I had nothing to do with this!”

“You think I’m an idiot?!” Yi Bo shouted. “Do you think I’m so gullible that I can’t see what’s happening here?!”

Yi Hong and Zhao Zhen were utterly confused, unsure of what was going on as they watched Yi Bo’s outburst.

“Give me some time. I will investigate this thoroughly and give the Yi family a proper explanation,” Wu Dakai said solemnly to Yi Wei.

“If you want to investigate it yourself, that’s fine. That way, you can understand the situation better,” Yi Wei replied. “In a few days, Mr. Gu will be attending a banquet at the Wu family’s home. I’ll make sure he brings this matter up with your chairman.”

Wu Dakai and Luo Xia’s faces turned pale at the mention of their chairman, and even Wu Xuan’s expression grew grim as he covered his face.

“On behalf of my son, I apologize for his offense,” Wu Dakai said, trying to calm the situation. “I will make sure he is properly disciplined. But until I’ve gotten to the bottom of this, could you refrain from making this public?”

“You definitely need to teach your son a lesson,” Yi Wei said. “But as for this matter, I will make sure Mr. Gu discusses it with your chairman. I won’t disturb you any longer. Enjoy your meal.” With that, Yi Wei stood up and left.

“Yi Bo, what’s going on here?” Yi Hong asked his son after Yi Wei left.

“Let’s go home first. I’ll explain everything to you then,” Yi Bo replied, standing up to leave.

Qi Ran, now feeling extremely out of place, glanced at Wu Xuan, unsure of what to do.

“What’s wrong with you?! First, you ask us to help the Yi family, and now you’re secretly sabotaging their company. What are you trying to pull? And promising to trade information about the Wu Group—are you out of your mind?!” Wu Dakai fumed, slamming the documents on the table. “If you don’t explain yourself, I’ll break your legs!”

Wu Xuan remained silent, his head lowered.

“Say something!” Luo Xia cried out, on the verge of tears.

“If you don’t want to talk, fine!” Wu Dakai grabbed something off the table and threw it at Wu Xuan, yelling, “Do you think keeping quiet will make this go away?!”

Luo Xia screamed, rushing to stop her husband. “Calm down! Do you want to kill him?!”

“Let him die for all I care! I’ll just pretend I never had this son!” Wu Dakai shouted as he shoved Luo Xia aside and stormed out.

Wu Dakai, who had two other sons with his ex-wife, had long intended for his eldest son to inherit the family business. Now that Wu Xuan had caused such a huge mess, he had to rush to apologize to his older brother. If severing ties with Wu Xuan could smooth things over with the family, he wouldn’t hesitate to cut him off.

Back at the Yi family home, Yi Bo pretended to piece together the events at the hotel, explaining everything to Yi Hong and Zhao Zhen. He even revealed Qi Ran’s true background, including his marriage to Wu Xuan abroad and how he had been entangled with him ever since returning.

Zhao Zhen was so furious she trembled. If Qi Ran had been standing in front of her, she would have wanted to give him a good beating to vent her rage.

Even though Qi Ran wasn’t there, Yi Xuan was. Zhao Zhen turned her anger towards him. “You knew all of this from the start, didn’t you? You knew everything, yet you kept defending him, didn’t you?!”

“No, I didn’t!” Yi Xuan quickly denied, panicking as he explained. “I only spoke well of him because he took good care of me abroad. I really didn’t know about the things he did, nor did I know about his background.”

“During the time since you came back, you kept saying how good Qi Ran was to you and how much he took care of you. You praised him to the skies. Your brother said that he would not be with him anymore, but you still helped to match them up. Who is he to you? Why are you so supportive of him?” Zhao Zhen pointed at Yi Xuan angrily and said, “We raised you to this age. We don’t ask for your gratitude or return of favor, but you can’t be treacherous and help others to harm us, right?!”

“Mom, I really don’t know.” Yi Xuan was so anxious that he was about to cry.

“Get out of here!” Zhao Zhen yelled, “I don’t have a son like you, and don’t call me mom anymore!”

“Mom, I was wrong! I know I was wrong!” Yi Xuan knelt down, cried and grabbed Zhao Zhen’s hand and said, “Don’t chase me away. I will never contact Qi Ran again. I really don’t know what he did. Please believe me!”

Zhao Zhen pulled out her hand and slapped Yi Xuan hard. The living room suddenly became quiet and everyone was stunned.

Yi Xuan had an unbelievable expression on his face. This was the first time he was beaten since he was a child.

Zhao Zhen was also stunned when she looked at her hand. She never thought that she would hit Yi Xuan one day.

This was her most beloved child. She treated him better than her own son. Why did things turn out like this? Zhao Zhen’s tears kept falling.
