PAGBWMH : Chapter 84

You’re the Best

Gu Yueshan, Yi Wei, and the others entered the guest room, where Wu Suyan and Wu Dakai were already waiting. Wu Hao grabbed Wu Xuan by the arm and roughly dragged him inside, shoving him hard to stand in place.

Wu Dakai had brought Wu Xuan to his brother’s house so that Wu Xuan could apologize. However, Wu Suyan had been too busy these past few days to deal with Wu Xuan’s actions, and so he had temporarily put him under house arrest to reflect on his behavior. Once Wu Suyan had time, he would investigate Wu Xuan’s motives and decide on a suitable punishment.

None of them expected Wu Xuan to be bold enough to try to confront Yi Wei during the banquet.

Gu Yueshan’s expression was dark, and Wu Suyan felt quite embarrassed. After all, this incident had occurred in his home, and it was his nephew who had tried to harm Yi Wei. He felt responsible.

“Yueshan, this was my oversight. It’s my fault for not disciplining the younger generation of my family well enough. I apologize to you, and to Yi Wei, for the scare,” Wu Suyan said sincerely.

Gu Yueshan still looked displeased, but Yi Wei squeezed his hand, signaling him to calm down.

Gu Yueshan composed himself before speaking. “A child’s behavior reflects on their parents. However, since he’s not your son and you weren’t the one to raise him, I understand. I have many nephews myself, so I know what that’s like. We’ve been friends for years, and I trust you’ll handle this matter to my satisfaction.”

“Rest assured, I won’t show him any leniency. I will deal with him strictly,” Wu Suyan promised.

“Yi Wei was frightened. I’ll take him home to rest now. I won’t intrude on your family matters any longer,” Gu Yueshan said, rising to leave, holding Yi Wei’s hand.

“I’ll see you out,” Wu Suyan offered, realizing just how angry Gu Yueshan was. Usually, their interactions weren’t this formal. To show his apology, Wu Suyan personally escorted Gu Yueshan and Yi Wei to their car before returning inside.

“Brother…” Wu Dakai called out cautiously. Although he was furious with Wu Xuan, as his father, he still wanted to plead for mercy.

Wu Suyan shot him a sharp look and walked away without responding, heading back to the guest room.

Once inside, Wu Suyan asked, “Have you investigated everything?”

“Yes, all the details have been gathered,” Wu Hao said, holding a tablet.

“Go ahead,” Wu Suyan instructed.

Wu Hao began reading off everything Wu Xuan had done, detailing his involvement with Qi Ran and Yi Bo, as well as whether he had truly used Gu Group’s intelligence to strike deals.

After hearing it all, Wu Dakai’s veins bulged with anger. He stormed over and slapped Wu Xuan across the head, yelling at him as he fell to the floor, “You worthless scum! Get on your knees!!”

“No need for that,” Wu Suyan said coldly. “He won’t be part of this family for much longer.”

“Brother…” Wu Dakai pleaded. “Give him one more chance. I swear I’ll punish him severely and make sure he never does anything like this again.”

“You can choose between your eldest son and Wu Xuan. Decide for yourself,” Wu Suyan said before walking out.

The message was clear: Wu Dakai would either cut ties with Wu Xuan or his entire family would suffer. Severing ties would mean not only that Wu Xuan would receive no inheritance, but also that he would be monitored after leaving the family. No one would be allowed to help him, and he wouldn’t be able to get a decent job. While he wouldn’t be left destitute, his life would be over.

Wu Hao turned to Wu Dakai and said, “Second Uncle, it’s because you and Second Aunt spoiled Wu Xuan so much that he became this reckless. The things he’s done are beyond stupid. You saw how angry Gu Yueshan was. Because of the relationship between him and Dad, Dad is handling this. If Gu Yueshan had dealt with it himself, Wu Xuan’s punishment would have been far worse.”

With that, Wu Hao left the room as well.

Wu Dakai looked down at Wu Xuan and said, “Get up. Go home and pack your things. This will be your last time in that house. After today, it will no longer be your home.”

“Father?” Wu Xuan finally began to panic, disbelief filling his face. “Are you really going to disown me over something so small? Are you really cutting me off for this?”

“Small?!” Wu Dakai shouted. “You got married and divorced abroad—fine, that’s a small issue. But you used Gu Group’s intelligence to strike deals and tried to undermine the Yi family? You even dared to attack Gu Yueshan’s legal partner—that’s ‘small’?! If it weren’t for the bodyguards stopping you today, you’d know what a ‘big’ problem really is!!”

Wu Dakai stormed out, leaving Wu Xuan shouting after him, “Dad! Dad!”

Back at the Gu residence, Gu Yueshan and Yi Wei were preparing for bed.

Gu Yao was now able to crawl. After Yi Wei got into bed, he sat cross-legged at the foot of it and clapped his hands. “Come to daddy.”

Gu Yao eagerly crawled toward Yi Wei, who scooped him up and lifted him high in the air. “What a smart baby,” Yi Wei laughed.

Gu Yao giggled joyfully as Yi Wei lifted him up and down.

Gu Yueshan sat at the head of the bed, arms crossed, looking stern.

Yi Wei crawled over with the baby, then held him up toward Gu Yueshan, saying, “Baby, tell Father not to be mad anymore. Give him a kiss so we can all go to sleep.”

Despite his stern expression, Gu Yueshan couldn’t resist his son’s adorable face and large eyes, and he kissed him gently on the forehead.

Yi Wei leaned against Gu Yueshan and settled the baby into his arms. He pulled Gu Yao’s thumb from his mouth and replaced it with a pacifier, gently patting him to sleep.

Watching his son’s peaceful face as he drifted off to sleep filled Yi Wei with an overwhelming sense of happiness and contentment.

After Gu Yao had fallen asleep, Yi Wei turned his attention to Gu Yueshan, who still hadn’t cooled down. He straddled Gu Yueshan’s lap, wrapping his arms around his neck. “Don’t be angry anymore. He didn’t even touch me, just said a few nasty words, which I don’t care about.”

“He should be thankful he didn’t touch you, or I wouldn’t have let him off,” Gu Yueshan said, his brow furrowed.

“You’ve known Mr. Wu for years, yet you gave him the cold shoulder today. That’s not fair. Can you really blame him for something his nephew did? What if Gu Heng or one of your other nephews caused trouble? Would you want someone blaming you for their mistakes?” Yi Wei gently cupped Gu Yueshan’s face. “Tomorrow, why don’t you talk to Wu Dong and smooth things over? Okay?”

Gu Yueshan replied, “If I see him, I might not be able to control my temper.”

“You can’t let this drag on. Wu Dong might start overthinking things. Consider this practice for your therapy—try to hold back your anger, alright?” Yi Wei pleaded softly.

Gu Yueshan nodded reluctantly.

Yi Wei kissed him on the cheek. “You’re the best.”

***

The next day, Yi Wei accompanied Gu Yueshan back to the Wu residence. After a lengthy conversation, Gu Yueshan apologized to Wu Suyan, admitting that he had been too angry the previous day and shouldn’t have taken it out on him. Wu Suyan, in turn, said he understood how Gu Yueshan must have felt in the moment. Both men were mature and had been friends for many years, so after talking things through, everything was resolved.

As they left the Wu residence, Yi Wei kissed Gu Yueshan on the cheek. “You did great. Keep it up.”

Whenever Gu Yueshan’s aggressive personality surfaced—especially when he was angry—Yi Wei would treat him like a child, soothing and coaxing him. Although Gu Yueshan’s aura was more intimidating in this state, it was the only method Yi Wei had for now.

After they left, Wu Hao found himself deep in thought. It was clear to everyone how much Gu Yueshan cared for and loved Yi Wei, but Wu Hao couldn’t help thinking about the beautiful woman from before. Not because he had any inappropriate feelings, but because he pitied her. Still, that pity was something she had chosen for herself.

A few days later, Yi Bo learned that Wu Dakai had disowned Wu Xuan and kicked him out of the family. He also found out that Qi Ran had left the country and wasn’t likely to return anytime soon.

Yi Wei and Yi Bo kept in touch through messages. Yi Bo sent him everything he knew about Gu Heng’s plans, originally believing Gu Heng would soon find out where “Mi Wei” was hiding. But since that hadn’t happened, he suggested that Yi Wei try to find Mi Wei himself.

As Yi Wei looked through the messages Yi Bo had sent, he began thinking about his next steps.
