PAGBWMH : Chapter 88

The First Attempt

When everyone quieted down, Gu Yueshan coldly said, “It is impossible for anyone other than Yi Wei to bear my child. If you insist that this person named Mi Wei exists and has my child, then bring her to me so I can see her for myself!”

“Alright, don’t get angry.” Yi Wei held Gu Yueshan’s hand and gently comforted him. Then he turned to Xu Hua and the others and asked, “Aunt, why do you insist that someone named Mi Wei exists? And how did you know she was pregnant?”

“Mi Wei used to live in the Linjiang Mansion; even outsiders know about it. How could we not?” Xu Hua replied, though she avoided explaining how they had learned about Mi Wei’s pregnancy.

“Who told you that the person living in the Linjiang Mansion was named Mi Wei? Was it also from outsiders?” Yi Wei pressed.

Xu Hua fell silent. Outsiders only knew that a woman lived in the Linjiang Mansion; no one knew her name was Mi Wei.

Yi Wei had only told Wu Qing about the name Mi Wei. Since no one outside had mentioned it, it was clear Wu Qing hadn’t shared the information. Xu Hua and the others must have discovered it through their own investigation.

“The Linjiang Mansion has long been transferred to me by Yueshan,” Yi Wei said calmly. “If you don’t believe me, I can show you the transfer documents. Since it’s my property, why would I let someone else live there?” Yi Wei looked directly at Xu Hua. “Aunt, could it be that you’ve been deceived? Why don’t you explain what happened in detail so we can help you figure it out?”

Xu Hua couldn’t reveal the entire process because doing so would expose their schemes and intentions to target Yi Wei.

Ye Feng noticed Xu Hua’s hesitation, her eyes darting quickly before she said, “Yi Wei is right. Yueshan has already denied the existence of Mi Wei and the possibility of someone else bearing his child. Yet, you insist that Mi Wei is pregnant and has given birth. What’s going on? Explain yourself.”

“Aunt?” Yi Wei urged.

“Mi Wei sought our help, saying she was being held captive by your people,” Xu Hua finally said, staring at Yi Wei.

Yi Wei smiled and replied, “Evidence is important in everything. If you insist I’ve detained Mi Wei, you can’t convict me without proof.”

Xu Hua glanced at Gu Yueshan. She hadn’t expected him to deny Mi Wei’s existence so firmly. Could it be that, for Yi Wei’s sake, he was willing to abandon his own child? If that was the case, even if they found Mi Wei and her child, what chance of success would they have?

Gu Yueshan suddenly clenched his fists tightly. Noticing his discomfort, Yi Wei quickly said, “There’s no need for Yueshan and me to lie about this. Aunt, you should investigate thoroughly to see if someone has deceived you.”

After saying this, Yi Wei stood and took Gu Yueshan’s arm, leading him back to their courtyard. He had initially planned to use this opportunity to press Xu Hua into revealing more of their plans and schemes. However, to protect Gu Yueshan’s condition from being exposed, he had to cut the confrontation short.

After Yi Wei and Gu Yueshan left, the others began to leave one by one. As Ye Feng passed Xu Hua, she said, “Using someone Yueshan doesn’t care about to threaten him? Who do you think you can intimidate? No matter how much you struggle, it’s pointless.”

Xu Hua clenched her hands tightly, took a deep breath, and quickly left the hall, returning to the western villa.

Back in the villa, Xu Hua sat down and tried to gather her thoughts.

“What do we do now? Fourth Uncle doesn’t care about Mi Wei and acts like she doesn’t exist. How can we find her?” Gu Heng said anxiously, pulling at his hair. Suddenly, he stood up and exclaimed, “I just remembered something!”

“What is it?” Xu Hua asked, puzzled.

Gu Heng had been too worried in recent days to recall what Yi Xuan had said earlier. Now, it struck him. After recounting Yi Xuan’s words, he said, “I think Yi Bo found out about Mi Wei and told Yi Wei, who sent people to take Mi Wei and her child before we could. That must be it!”

“Yi Bo?” Xu Hua’s already muddled mind became even more confused. “How would he know about Mi Wei?”

Gu Heng froze for a moment before hastily denying, “It wasn’t me! I didn’t tell anyone about this, not even Yi Xuan. I swear I didn’t say a word to them!”

“Then how did he find out where Mi Wei was?” Xu Hua pressed.

Gu Heng thought for a while but couldn’t figure it out. Frustrated, he said, “I’ll call him and ask directly.”

However, when he tried to call Yi Bo, his phone was off. Gu Heng then called Yi Hong, who told him that Yi Bo hadn’t been home for days and couldn’t be reached. Yi Hong asked Gu Heng to help find him.

“It’s definitely him!” Gu Heng threw his phone onto the sofa in anger. “He knows he’s been exposed, so he’s hiding! He must know where Mi Wei is. I have to find him!”

Gu Heng stormed out, leaving Xu Hua dizzy and overwhelmed. Her body and mind, already strained by stress, began to falter.

Meanwhile, Gu Heng went to find Yi Xuan, who was resting in his dormitory. Yi Xuan had been unable to focus on anything, not even attending classes properly. He knew he couldn’t continue like this but couldn’t control himself.

When the doorbell rang, Yi Xuan got up to open the door. Seeing Gu Heng outside, he froze in surprise.

Gu Heng pushed Yi Xuan back into the room, shut the door, and demanded, “Where’s Yi Bo?”

“I haven’t contacted him in days. Why are you asking me? Call him yourself,” Yi Xuan said, feeling bewildered.

“If I could reach him, I wouldn’t be here!” Gu Heng glared at Yi Xuan. “He’s hiding, but you must know how to contact him. Tell him to show himself, or I won’t let him off!”

Yi Xuan, frustrated and upset, threw his phone at Gu Heng. “Then call him yourself!”

Gu Heng tried calling again, but Yi Bo’s phone was still off.

“You call him! You must know how to reach him!” Gu Heng shoved the phone back into Yi Xuan’s hand.

“Are you out of your mind?!” Yi Xuan shouted. “If even you can’t find him, how could I possibly contact him?!”

“Even if he’s disappeared, you’re the only one in this world who can reach him! Isn’t he a brother-obsessed freak? Your relationship with him must be more than just brothers, right? So you must know how to contact him!”

Yi Xuan pushed Gu Heng away forcefully, his entire body trembling with anger. “How dare you insult me like this? How dare you?!”

Gu Heng grabbed Yi Xuan’s shoulders tightly and said, “I don’t care what kind of relationship you have with Yi Bo. Just make him tell me where Mi Wei is, or else I won’t let your family off!”

“Mi Wei again,” Yi Xuan suddenly laughed, though his eyes were filled with endless sorrow. After laughing for a while, he said, “Do whatever you want, but you won’t end up well either. We’ll see.”

Gu Heng, furious, shoved Yi Xuan away and stormed off.

Yi Xuan collapsed to the ground, weak and exhausted. He no longer cared what would happen next.

Gu Yueshan lay on the bed, his head resting on Yi Wei’s lap. Yi Wei gently massaged the acupressure points on his head to help him relax.

“Still feeling unwell?” Yi Wei asked.

Gu Yueshan opened his eyes and looked at him. Yi Wei immediately understood and leaned down to kiss him on the lips.

“Should we try today?” Yi Wei felt that Gu Yueshan’s personality shifts had been happening too frequently lately, and he was worried that delaying treatment might not be good. So, he decided to start the therapy today.

Gu Yueshan nodded slightly. He trusted Yi Wei completely and would even entrust his life to him.

Yi Wei lowered his head and gently rubbed his forehead against Gu Yueshan’s.

That night, after they had washed up, Yi Wei lit some sleep-inducing incense and placed it on the nightstand. He took out the first birthday gift Gu Yueshan had given him—a hollowed-out white jade hypnotic sphere. Although he had practiced for a long time, he was still a bit nervous.

After Gu Yueshan lay down, Yi Wei also lay down, resting his head on Gu Yueshan’s chest. When Gu Yueshan was almost asleep, Yi Wei carefully began to rotate the jade hypnotic sphere. The metal inside made a faint, subtle sound.

“Husband?” Yi Wei called softly.

“Hmm,” Gu Yueshan responded.

Yi Wei breathed a small sigh of relief. At least the first step of hypnosis had succeeded. He then began to proceed with the next steps.

For someone like Gu Yueshan, the treatment process would be long—ranging from a few months to possibly several years. Naturally, Yi Wei hoped Gu Yueshan would recover quickly, but this kind of thing couldn’t be rushed. Every step had to be taken with great care.

Yi Wei focused all his attention, carefully guiding the hypnotized Gu Yueshan, testing the waters bit by bit.

Yi Wei reached up and gently caressed Gu Yueshan’s face, feeling a wave of emotion. If Gu Yueshan hadn’t trusted him completely, the first attempt wouldn’t have gone so smoothly. This was a good start.
