PAGBWMH : Chapter 87

A Cry for Help

Gu Heng finally arrived at “Mi Wei’s” supposed residence, but when he opened the door and walked in, the place was empty—not a single person or piece of furniture was there.

Gu Heng was puzzled. He called in the people waiting outside to search the entire house, but they didn’t find a single trace of anyone—not even a strand of hair.

He sent another message to “Mi Wei,” but after waiting a long time, there was no response.

Left with no other choice, Gu Heng returned to his hotel and contacted his grandmother and grandfather to discuss the situation. They decided he would stay and investigate whether “Mi Wei” had ever lived in the house before making further plans.

Meanwhile, Yi Wei received another message from Yi Bo, learning about how Yi Xuan, unknowingly, had “betrayed” Yi Bo.

Yi Wei couldn’t help but laugh, laughing so hard that he couldn’t stop for a long time because the situation was just too amusing.

When Gu Yueshan came out of the bathroom and saw Yi Wei laughing uncontrollably on the sofa, he asked curiously, “What’s so funny?”

Yi Wei read aloud the content of Yi Bo’s message and then said, “Although the way things have unfolded keeps disrupting my original plans and catching me off guard, I must admit it’s far more interesting this way. Who would’ve thought Yi Xuan would be the one to ‘sell out’ Yi Bo? And Yi Bo himself must be the person most shocked by this outcome.”

Gu Yueshan sat down, pulled Yi Wei into his arms, and read through the message on Yi Wei’s phone. “Did he ask for your help?” he asked.

“Exactly. He must be panicking now, not knowing what to do. After all, he’s facing both the Xu family and the Jiang family. Fear and anxiety are perfectly understandable.” Yi Wei wrapped his arms around Gu Yueshan’s neck and smiled up at him. “He’s asking me for help. The same Yi Bo who used to look down on me and hate me is now turning to me for help because of Yi Xuan’s ‘betrayal.’ There’s probably nothing more painful for him than this. But even so, he had no choice but to come to me.”

Gu Yueshan gently pinched Yi Wei’s chin and looked at him. “You look like a little devil right now.”

“Do I look evil?” Yi Wei asked.

“You look… dangerously alluring.” Gu Yueshan kissed Yi Wei on the forehead, eyes, nose, and lips, moving lower as he went.

Yi Wei closed his eyes and slowly sank back onto the sofa.

Gu Heng spent days investigating and searching, but he still couldn’t find any trace of Mi Wei. Left with no other options, he returned to the country.

Two days after Gu Heng’s return, just as Xu Hua and the others were at a loss, Gu Heng suddenly received a message. Panicking, he rushed to find Xu Hua.

“Grandma! Grandma!” Gu Heng shouted as he entered the room.

“What is it?” Xu Hua asked, coming out of a small sitting room.

“Grandma…” Gu Heng panted anxiously. “Something bad has happened. Mi Wei has been found by Yi Wei.”

Xu Hua froze for a moment before asking, “Did Mi Wei tell you this?”

“She just sent me a message saying that her child was born a few days ago, but Yi Wei’s people suddenly found her, took the child, and locked her up!”

“Have her share her location.”

“I told her to, but she hasn’t replied. I think she might have been caught, and her phone was confiscated,” Gu Heng said, his anxiety mounting. “What should we do now?”

Xu Hua thought deeply for a moment before saying, “This might be an opportunity.”

“An opportunity?” Gu Heng was wide-eyed with disbelief. “Grandma, Mi Wei and her child are now in Yi Wei’s hands. How can this be an opportunity?!”

“At least now we know someone has found Mi Wei and the child,” Xu Hua said. “Come on, we’re going to see Yi Wei.”

Gu Heng, thinking of Mi Wei’s cry for help, felt a sense of urgency. His grandmother’s attitude baffled him, but in his dazed state, he followed her.

Yi Wei was reclining on his bed reading when a servant informed him that Xu Hua and Gu Heng had come to see him. He smiled slightly, put his book down on a side table, and got up to meet them.

Walking into the living room, Yi Wei looked at Xu Hua and said, “Aunt, why have you come in person? You could’ve just called me over.”

“Where are you hiding Mi Wei?” Xu Hua asked directly, without preamble.

“Mi Wei? Who’s Mi Wei? Aunt, I don’t understand what you’re talking about,” Yi Wei said, feigning confusion.

“Mi Wei’s child has already been born. That child is part of the Gu family. If anything happens to the child, Yueshan will never forgive you.” Xu Hua stared at Yi Wei sternly. “You’d better ensure their safety and tell us where the mother and child are. Then I can help plead your case with Yueshan.”

“Aunt, I don’t understand a word of what you’re saying.” Yi Wei shook his head.

“If you’re going to be stubborn, then we’ll wait until Yueshan returns,” Xu Hua said. “I’ve already sent someone to call him back.”

“What exactly are you trying to do?” Yi Wei asked, looking at Xu Hua.

“You’ll find out soon enough,” Xu Hua replied. “It’s too late to ask now.”

Yi Wei said no more and waited silently for Gu Yueshan’s return.

Before Gu Yueshan arrived, other members of the Gu family began to show up. Upon hearing the news, Ye Feng also came with her people.

“What are you up to this time?” Ye Feng asked Xu Hua. “Can’t you just live peacefully? Must you create trouble every now and then to feel satisfied?”

“What I’m doing is none of your concern,” Xu Hua retorted. “If you want to know, sit quietly and wait for Yueshan. I’ll explain when he gets here.”

Xu Hua thought to herself that Ye Feng and her family were living well by cozying up to Yi Wei. Even Gu Chang had already started learning the ropes at the company, while Gu Heng saw no prospects. She couldn’t just do nothing. She had to act and change the current situation.

“Aunt,” Yi Wei said to Xu Hua, “this is my final piece of advice: if you stop causing trouble, Yueshan will remember you as his biological mother. But if you drain all the affection he has left for you, don’t blame anyone else later.”

Xu Hua merely glanced at him and said nothing.

When Gu Yueshan finally walked in, Yi Wei noticed he was wearing glasses. He tensed up, realizing that when he had left that morning, Yueshan’s personality had been normal. Why was he now wearing glasses after just a few hours?

Xu Hua noticed Yi Wei’s nervousness and smirked inwardly.

As Gu Yueshan sat down, Yi Wei held his hand and softly called out, “Husband.”

Xu Hua thought smugly that it was satisfying to see Yi Wei anxious for once. She felt a sense of vindication.

“I shouldn’t have to say this, but you all know how busy I am.” Gu Yueshan spoke coldly. “If you’ve interrupted my work for something trivial, you’ll regret it.”

He wouldn’t have come back at all if not for his concern that Yi Wei might be bullied or upset.

“Yueshan, did you know Mi Wei has already given birth?” Xu Hua asked.

“What are you talking about?” Gu Yueshan frowned.

“Mi Wei was carrying your child. She’s given birth, but both she and the child are now under Yi Wei’s control. You didn’t know, did you?” Xu Hua said.

Her words left everyone stunned, including her own faction. Ye Feng’s side exchanged quick, alarmed glances, realizing that if this were true, it posed a significant threat. Xu Hua clearly had a purpose in revealing this publicly—to use Mi Wei and the child to challenge Yi Wei and his child’s position in the Gu family. Aligned with Yi Wei, they couldn’t let Xu Hua succeed.

“Who is Mi Wei?” Gu Yueshan asked expressionlessly. “I have no idea who you’re talking about.”

“Even if you don’t want to acknowledge Mi Wei, she’s given birth to your child. Are you going to let your flesh and blood be left out in the cold?” Xu Hua pressed. “Right now, they’re in Yi Wei’s hands. Who knows what might happen to them? At the very least, you should ensure their safety.”

“Are you sure you want to have this conversation with me?” Gu Yueshan asked coldly. “This is your last chance. Leave now, and I’ll pretend none of this happened. Otherwise…”

Xu Hua had come this far and couldn’t back down. She prepared to appeal to Gu Yueshan’s emotions, determined to get the child back.

“You can’t turn your back on your own child. That’s a life—a continuation of your bloodline!” Xu Hua exclaimed. “You have to at least ensure their safety, even if you don’t want to acknowledge them.”

“Do we even know if this child is Yueshan’s?” Ye Feng interjected. “Even if it is, Yueshan will decide how to handle it. Why are you so anxious?”

“I’m worried about the reputation of the Gu family and Yueshan,” Xu Hua retorted. “If word gets out, what will people say about us? About Yueshan? You may not care, but I do.”

“Enough!” Gu Yueshan roared, silencing the room immediately.
