SPMT : Chapter 48: Mu Shuyu is Pregnant

Mu Shuyu is Pregnant

“Mu Shuyu is pregnant?” Xiao Jingting asked in surprise.

Xu Mu’an nodded. “Yes, the doctor said he’s three months pregnant. He fainted from exhaustion.”

Xiao Jingting suddenly felt embarrassed. Mu Shuyu had been working hard for Xiao Jinfeng before, and even after Xiao Jinfeng recovered, Mu Shuyu had been helping with the farming. He worked tirelessly every day until his spiritual energy was depleted. It seemed like Xiao Jinfeng had mistreated his pregnant partner.

Xiao Jingting pulled Xiao Jinfeng, who looked dazed, aside and asked in a low voice, “Second Brother, did you and Mu Shuyu… sleep together?”

Xiao Jinfeng smiled awkwardly. “I suppose.”

“What do you mean, ‘I suppose’?” Xiao Jingting was puzzled.

“About three months ago, there was a big event in the mercenary group. Everyone was drinking a lot, and you know your second brother—I love to drink. Once I get drunk, I lose control. At the time, people kept urging us to drink more, so we were all drinking heavily. Although I usually have good alcohol tolerance, I ended up feeling dizzy too,” Xiao Jinfeng explained, his tone turning bitter.

“I don’t know if someone did it on purpose, but the alcohol I drank later on was laced with aphrodisiac. I was already half-drunk and didn’t notice anything wrong. That aphrodisiac was strong. In the middle of the night, I felt feverish and in unbearable pain. In a daze, I seem to have held Mu Shuyu… When I woke up the next day, there was no one beside me, and Mu Shuyu acted normal. I hinted at it later, but he didn’t react. I thought maybe I was just too drunk and imagined the whole thing.”

Now that he thought about it, the timing of Mu Shuyu’s pregnancy matched perfectly with that night.

Xiao Jinfeng lowered his head, and a cold gleam appeared in his eyes. His lingering attachment to the mercenary group burned to ashes. For the past few months, he had dismissed the incident as an accident, assuming he drank spiked wine by mistake. However, looking back now, he felt someone in the mercenary group had deliberately set him up, trying to humiliate him. If he had mistakenly grabbed someone else that night, the consequences would have been catastrophic.

Xiao Jingting watched his brother’s changing expression silently.

Xiao Jinfeng frowned and said, “The former captain of the mercenary group treated me well, but the new captain… not so much. I stayed out of his way because I owed the old captain a lot. Unfortunately, his nephew, the new captain, didn’t respect me. To him, I was just a young master of the Xiao family, someone playing at being a mercenary for fun. Missions were handed to me as if they were doing me a favor, and my rewards were always less than others’. At first, some team members sympathized with me, but over time, they stopped caring. My efforts never earned any gratitude.”

“Second Brother, Mu Shuyu doesn’t seem to be in good condition. Go check on him,” Xiao Jingting said.

Xiao Jinfeng nodded. “Okay.”

Mu Shuyu had already woken up when Xiao Jinfeng entered the room. He saw Xiao Jinfeng standing near the door, looking hesitant.

“Did we… that night, when I drank too much?” Xiao Jinfeng asked, his voice filled with awkwardness.

Mu Shuyu remained silent for a long moment before giving a small nod.

“Why didn’t you tell me earlier? I would have taken responsibility!” Xiao Jinfeng said, his voice filled with regret.

“At that time, you were still the young master of the Xiao family. You also had an engagement,” Mu Shuyu said softly.

Xiao Jinfeng was stunned. His engagement to Sun Miaoyin had been a complicated matter. His marriage wasn’t just about personal feelings; it was tied to the alliance between the Xiao and Sun families. Breaking it off before marriage would have caused a scandal, damaging both his reputation and his family’s standing.

“Since the day you saved me, I’ve always had feelings for you. After that night, I thought about telling you the truth,” Mu Shuyu admitted. “But when I saw Sun Miaoyin in Mocheng, I changed my mind. She’s so gentle, noble, and beautiful. I couldn’t compete with someone like her. I thought it was better for you to marry her, so I swallowed everything.”

Xiao Jinfeng looked at Mu Shuyu with guilt and admiration. “You’ve always been so considerate of me. No one has ever cared for me the way you have.”

Mu Shuyu blushed slightly and lowered his head. “You saved me. It’s only natural for me to think of you.”

“I’ve saved a lot of people during my time in the mercenary group,” Xiao Jinfeng said bitterly. “But not everyone repays kindness with gratitude. Many only take advantage of you.”

Mu Shuyu bit his lip and whispered after a long pause, “I like you.”

His voice was so soft that Xiao Jinfeng almost didn’t catch it. He leaned closer and held Mu Shuyu’s hand. “I like you too.”

A shy smile spread across Mu Shuyu’s face. After moving to Tudi Village and seeing how Xiao Jingting and Xu Mu’an cared for each other, Mu Shuyu couldn’t help feeling envious. He had tried to suppress his hopes, but deep down, he had always longed for a similar connection with Xiao Jinfeng.

Xiao Jingting saw Xiao Jinfeng coming out of the room and asked, “Have you cleared things up with him?”

Xiao Jinfeng nodded. “Yes, the child is mine.”

“In that case, Second Brother, you should hurry up and marry him. Having a child out of wedlock will damage Mu Shuyu’s reputation. Mu Shuyu is much better than that dead girl from the Sun family,” Xiao Jingting said firmly.

The social norms of this world were conservative. If Mu Shuyu’s pregnancy became too obvious before marriage, he would become an easy target for gossip.

“I was thinking the same,” Xiao Jinfeng agreed. “Shuyu also said we should keep the wedding simple for now. Auntie and the Sun family are still keeping an eye on us, so it’s best to stay low-profile.”

“We may not be able to hold a grand ceremony, but you’d better treat him well in the future. He deserves it,” Xiao Jingting reminded him.

Xiao Jinfeng nodded. “I know. You don’t need to tell me.”

“Did you clarify things with Mu Shuyu?” Xu Mu’an asked.

Xiao Jingting nodded, “Yes, I clarified it. Second Brother is quite foolish. If Mu Shuyu hadn’t gotten pregnant, he would probably continue to be confused. We’ll be having a wedding in our family soon.”

Xu Mu’an nodded, “That’s good news.”

Xu Mu’an actually breathed a sigh of relief in his heart. Mu Shuyu was also a spiritual plant cultivator. There were always some gossipy people in the village who said that Mu Shuyu and Xiao Jingting were quite compatible. Although Xu Mu’an knew that there was nothing between Mu Shuyu and Xiao Jingting, he still felt uncomfortable.

“We won’t have a grand ceremony this time, but we should give a more valuable gift,” Xiao Jingting said.

Xu Mu’an thought for a moment and said, “The Cuiyun Grass in your space is almost ripe.”

After discussing for a while, Xiao Jingting also told Xu Mu’an about the matter of the jade pendant.

Xu Mu’an tried the jade pendant and found that he couldn’t open the space like Xiao Jingting. If Xiao Jingting hadn’t mentioned it, he wouldn’t have noticed anything wrong with the jade pendant.

Xiao Jingting had previously planted the Cuiyun Grass in the space and hadn’t paid attention to it for a while. The Cuiyun Grass had already grown into three plants, and one of them was about to ripen.

“Perhaps we can give Mu Shuyu the seeds,” the seeds of Cuiyun Grass could be used to stimulate cultivators’ advancement, which was quite precious. Xu Mu’an was actually reluctant, but he thought that after Mu Shuyu advanced, he could help Xiao Jinfeng more, and Xiao Jinfeng wouldn’t have to be so busy all the time. So, he agreed.

“You’re too hasty. Otherwise… these seeds were originally for you,” Xiao Jingting said.

Xu Mu’an shook his head and said, “It’s okay. I’ve already advanced now.” If he hadn’t accidentally overdosed on Fiery Grass and gone berserk, he and Xiao Jingting wouldn’t have been so open with each other so quickly.

“Yeah, it’s a good idea to give him the seeds,” Xiao Jingting said. He had already advanced to level four, so the seeds of Cuiyun Grass were temporarily useless to him. When the spiritual energy accumulated in his body reached the peak of level four and he needed the seeds of Cuiyun Grass to break through, there should be other seeds matured in the space by then.

The improvement of Mu Shuyu’s strength would only benefit them.

“By the way, the jade I put in the pendant is missing,” Xiao Jingting said.

“Missing?” Xu Mu’an was puzzled.

Xiao Jingting nodded, “Yes, it’s missing. I didn’t pay attention to it before, so it disappeared. But after it disappeared, the Cuiyun Grass growing by the Lingquan seemed to have grown a lot faster. Perhaps, the Lingyu can enhance the space of the jade.”

Xu Mu’an hesitated for a moment and said, “If that’s the case, we’ll have to work hard to earn more Lingyu.”

Xiao Jingting nodded, “Yes! Relying solely on planting spiritual plants is still a bit slow!”

Xu Mu’an thought for a moment and said, “Perhaps we can try focusing on cultivating some fifth or even sixth-grade spiritual plants within the space, and then sell them in big cities. Here in this small town, high-level spiritual plants are easily noticeable when sold, but in bustling cities, they won’t attract as much attention.”

Xiao Jingting nodded, “That’s worth a try. I’ll go get some herb seeds and cultivate them.”

With the preparations for Xiao Jinfeng and Mu Shuyu’s wedding, the construction of the house couldn’t be delayed any longer.

Money made things easier. Xu Mu’an hired a construction team and quickly built three rooms, plus an extra outhouse as per Xiao Jingting’s request.

After the three rooms were built, the house suddenly became much more spacious.

Once the house was built, Xiaoxiaodong and Xiaoxiaofan moved into their new rooms. Unlike in the modern world, houses could be occupied as soon as they were built in the wild world.

At Xiao xiaodong’s request, Xiao Jingting bought another bed for Xiao xiaodong separately.

According to Xiao xiaodong, Xiaoxiaofan liked to roll around in bed, turn 360 degrees, grind his teeth, put his smelly feet near his face, and even hide snacks under his pillow, leaving a food smell. Xiaoxiaodong had had enough.

It was rare for Xiao xiaodong to make a request to Xiao Jingting, so Xiao Jingting naturally wouldn’t refuse.

Xiaoxiaofan rolled around on Xiaoxiaodong’s bed, “Brother, why did you ask Daddy for another bed? You can just sleep with me. I don’t mind.”

Xiaoxiaodong looked at Xiaoxiaofan rolling around on his new bed and said irritably, “You don’t mind me, but I mind you.”

Xiao xiaofan looked at Xiao xiaodong with a depressed expression, “Brother, what do you mind about me? I even warm up your bed for you so that it’s warm when you sleep.”

Xiao xiaodong looked at Xiao xiaofan and said irritably, “You! You smell like food.”

Xiao xiaofan sniffed and said with some grievance, “No, I don’t.”

“This is the bed Daddy bought for me. Get off quickly,” Xiaoxiaodong said. In Xiao xiaodong’s eyes, this bed was considered the first gift officially given to him by Xiao Jingting. Xiao xiaodong didn’t show it on his face, but he valued this bed very much in his heart.

I am really enjoying this story, its a shame that so many things happen off screen. For example, talking about the space in the jade. That would have been a good relationship building moment where the reader got to see them getting closer. Instead the author just told us it happened.
