After returning to the room, Yi Wei removed his makeup, took a shower, and changed into comfortable clothes. He then spent the rest of the afternoon with the baby. In the evening, Gu Yueshan had someone come to escort Yi Wei to join them for dinner. Yi Wei changed his clothes again, asked the caregivers to watch the baby, and headed to dinner with Gu Yueshan and the others.
When Yi Wei arrived, they hadn’t started serving food yet, and the group was still chatting casually. Yi Wei walked over to Gu Yueshan, who put his arm around him and asked in a low voice, “Are you hungry?”
“I’m fine, I had some fruit earlier, so I’m not very hungry right now,” Yi Wei replied.
“The food will be served soon. Is there anything specific you’d like to eat? I can have the kitchen make it for you,” Gu Yueshan asked.
Yi Wei thought for a moment and said, “There’s nothing in particular I’m craving, I’ll just eat whatever they bring out later.”
Yi Wei wasn’t a picky eater and had no special cravings, so he was content to wait for the food to be served. A partner of a chairman whom Yi Wei had enjoyed chatting with the previous day pulled him aside and introduced him to someone.
“This is Mr. Meng Yang, the partner of the chairman of Luo Group,” the person said. “I was just talking about you with him.”
Yi Wei was momentarily surprised upon seeing Meng Yang but extended his hand politely. “Nice to meet you, Mr. Meng.”
“Nice to meet you,” Meng Yang responded, shaking Yi Wei’s hand. He, too, seemed momentarily stunned upon seeing Yi Wei, as if Yi Wei looked familiar to him. “Have we met before?” he asked.
“This is our first time meeting,” Yi Wei said with a polite smile.
Meng Yang discreetly took a deep breath, as if trying to recall something, then smiled back. “It’s a pleasure to meet you.”
Though Meng Yang’s action of subtly inhaling went unnoticed by most, Yi Wei caught it. From the change in Meng Yang’s expression, Yi Wei realized that he had been recognized. *This man’s sense of smell is even more powerful than rumored*, Yi Wei thought.
Meng Yang was a well-known and skilled aromatherapist, and since Yi Wei was also studying psychology with a minor in aromatherapy at the fragrance academy, they had common ground to talk about.
After a while, the food was served, and they each returned to sit with their partners to begin eating.
Yi Wei picked up a warm towel to wipe his hands and, after the service staff took the towel away, started eating with chopsticks. As he ate, he continued to reflect on being recognized by Meng Yang earlier. While he trusted that Meng Yang wasn’t the type to gossip, he didn’t know him well enough to be completely sure. Being recognized still made him feel uneasy.
Gu Yueshan, who had been helping Yi Wei with food, noticed that although Yi Wei seemed focused on eating, he was clearly distracted. Leaning in, he asked softly, “What’s wrong? Are you feeling unwell?”
“No, I’m fine,” Yi Wei shook his head lightly. “I’m just a little tired, but it’s nothing serious.”
“After dinner, go back to the room and rest. You don’t need to stay here and keep me company,” Gu Yueshan said gently.
“Alright,” Yi Wei nodded.
After dinner, Yi Wei returned to his room early. Gu Yueshan and the others, having spent the entire day discussing business, wrapped up soon after as they had meetings scheduled for the next day.
Later that night, after showering, Meng Yang crawled into bed and snuggled into Luo Xiu’s arms, calling softly, “Uncle Luo.”
“Mm,” Luo Xiu responded.
“I’ve heard some rumors,” Meng Yang began, “that Chairman Gu of Gu Group, despite being married, has a very beautiful mistress on the side. Is that true?”
“It’s true,” Luo Xiu confirmed.
“I always thought you CEOs and chairmen only talked about business and company matters. Do you also gossip from time to time?” Meng Yang asked curiously.
“Occasionally,” Luo Xiu replied with a slight smile.
“How do you know it’s true? There are so many false rumors out there these days. I mean, just by looking at Chairman Gu, he doesn’t seem like the type to be unfaithful. From his interactions with his partner, they seem very much in love,” Meng Yang mused.
“Because there really is such a woman, and whether or not someone is unfaithful can’t always be judged from appearances alone,” Luo Xiu replied, then glanced down at Meng Yang. “Why are you suddenly so interested in this?”
“Oh, nothing, I just stumbled across something that made me curious,” Meng Yang said casually as he reached for Luo Xiu’s phone. “I’ll call our son to check if he’s getting ready for bed.”
Every person has a unique scent, though unless it’s particularly strong, most people can’t detect it. But Meng Yang’s heightened sense of smell allowed him to recognize that the scent on the woman he encountered earlier was the same as the one on Yi Wei in men’s clothing. Despite being in different cities, Meng Yang had heard rumors about Gu Yueshan’s supposed mistress. After connecting the dots during their interaction, his curiosity was piqued.
However, recognizing that this was someone else’s private matter, Meng Yang had no intention of prying further. After making a quick call to his son, he and Luo Xiu settled in for the night.
Meanwhile, Yi Wei lay on top of Gu Yueshan’s chest, resting his chin on his husband’s chest. “Hubby, are you familiar with Chairman Luo?” he asked.
“We know each other, but we’re not particularly close. Why do you ask?” Gu Yueshan stroked Yi Wei’s hair as he spoke.
“His partner, Meng Yang, is even more remarkable than the rumors say,” Yi Wei began, then shared how Meng Yang had encountered him earlier in the day while he was in disguise. Despite his efforts to avoid being seen, even meeting Gu Heng for only two or three minutes, he hadn’t anticipated running into the legendary Meng Yang, who recognized him by scent.
“I heard that Meng Yang once dated Chairman Luo’s eldest son, but his son cheated on him with his stepbrother, and when Meng Yang found out, he ended up marrying Chairman Luo. Later, it was revealed that Chairman Luo’s eldest son wasn’t even his biological child. Is that all true?” Yi Wei asked.
“It’s true,” Gu Yueshan confirmed.
“Even though I’ve heard some things about him, I’m not entirely sure what kind of person he is. What if he tells others about this?” Yi Wei asked, a bit concerned.
“Meng Yang is an aromatherapist, just like psychologists, who highly value client confidentiality. It’s ingrained in people like him to protect others’ privacy, as revealing such information could harm his own reputation and career. You don’t have to worry,” Gu Yueshan reassured him.
“You’re right. I was too caught up in worrying and didn’t think it through properly,” Yi Wei said, feeling much more at ease after being reminded of Meng Yang’s professional integrity. People in their field, like psychologists and aromatherapists, naturally kept such matters private to safeguard their reputations and careers.
The next day, Gu Yueshan went off to meetings with representatives from other companies. As Yi Wei had anticipated, Gu Heng sent him several messages throughout the day, all urging him to stay and fight for his happiness. Yi Wei didn’t reply immediately, deciding to let him stew for a few days and grow more anxious.
With nothing else to do, Yi Wei took the baby to visit Meng Yang, bringing along two small gifts.
“When I first met you, I felt a sense of familiarity and thought it would be nice if we could be friends. These are some small tokens I brought for you. I hope you like them,” Yi Wei said warmly.
“Thank you,” Meng Yang accepted the gifts with a smile. “You can just call me Meng Yang.”
“I have a close friend who also studies aromatherapy, and he’s a big fan of yours. He couldn’t come this time, but if he could meet you, he’d be thrilled,” Yi Wei said.
“We may have a chance to meet in the future,” Meng Yang replied. He already knew about Yi Wei’s adoptive mother being Mi Xue Miller and that Yi Wei had recently won an award abroad. He figured that they’d cross paths again, and perhaps he would meet Yi Wei’s friend as well.
Just then, Yi Wei’s phone rang. Seeing that it was a call from Sun Qi, Yi Wei turned to Meng Yang and said, “What a coincidence! It’s the friend I was just telling you about. Would you mind if I switch to a video call so he can see you?”
“Of course,” Meng Yang agreed.
Yi Wei switched to video mode, and as Sun Qi’s face appeared on the screen, Yi Wei said, “Guess who I’m talking to right now.”
Sun Qi looked confused for a moment. “Who?”
“Look,” Yi Wei turned the camera to face Meng Yang.
Sun Qi’s eyes widened in shock. Covering his mouth, he gasped, “Is that Meng Yang?”
“Hello,” Meng Yang greeted with a nod.
“Hi!” Sun Qi waved enthusiastically, looking a bit starstruck. “I’m a huge fan of yours!”
Just as Meng Yang was about to respond, Sun Qi suddenly disappeared from the screen, and the sound of vomiting came through the phone. Meng Yang paused, then looked at Yi Wei, puzzled.
Yi Wei was also taken aback. Though feeling slightly embarrassed, he was more concerned for Sun Qi. He quickly turned to Meng Yang, apologizing, “I’m sorry, he’s been feeling unwell before I came. Let’s talk next time—I need to go check on him.”
“That’s alright, your friend’s health is more important. Let’s chat another time,” Meng Yang said, getting up to see Yi Wei off.
Yi Wei, holding his baby, quickly took the elevator back to his room. By the time he returned, Sun Qi hadn’t yet picked up his phone again.
Yi Wei placed the baby on the bed and anxiously waited with his phone in hand.
After a while, Sun Qi finally answered, sounding weak. “Yi Wei…”
“I’m back in my room now, no one else is around. How are you feeling? You’ve been vomiting so much. Did you go to the hospital?” Yi Wei asked, concerned.
“I’ve been vomiting badly these past few days. I went to the hospital, and…” Sun Qi paused, his voice tinged with disbelief, “It turns out I’m actually pregnant. After a detailed checkup, I found out I’m an intersex male. All these years, my mom never told me.”
“Don’t panic,” Yi Wei immediately tried to calm him. “You and Mr. Wei are in love. You two can discuss the baby and work out a plan together. As for your mother, I’m sure she had her reasons for not telling you. Don’t get upset just yet. Everything can be worked out through communication.”
“I just… I don’t know what to do,” Sun Qi said, still feeling overwhelmed.
“I’ll come back right away. Head to the Haitang Courtyard and wait for me there. Don’t think about anything for now. We’ll sort everything out once I’m back.”
“Okay,” Sun Qi agreed.
After hanging up, Yi Wei quickly packed his things and made arrangements to return to the Gu household with the baby. Some of the guards accompanied him, while others stayed behind to wait for Gu Yueshan.
